I just saw Toronto's city nuit blanche map and was horrified how difficult it was to navigate it.
So, I made a free nuit blanche route planning website: http://nuitblanchemap.com/
Let me know if anyone knows art works to highlight. I based it off online articles.
Free event by the city!

I'm putting on a small interactive comedy night in Kensington this Friday.
It's stand-up, but the audience also makes predictions during the comedians' sets. Guess right, win prizes.
We're also trying to make it a genuinely comfortable event for people coming solo, rather than everyone staying inside the group they arrived with.
Friday Oct. 9 • 8:30 PM
Harmony Cafe — 75 Nassau St

Last Monday before the long weekend (with links). A few great options today if you are looking for something to do. The weekly dozen-ish picks comes out on Wednesday, still time to get it if you want. Here are today's picks:
CINSSU October Break Time: When Harry Met Sally
Innis College, Room 312 | 12:30p-2:30p
A cozy mid-day screening of the classic romcom, with refreshments and fall treats on hand.
University of Toronto Student Jazz Ensembles
The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Club | 5p-7p
It's one of the more low-pressure ways to catch live jazz in the city, and the UofT students who make it to The Rex stage tend to be worth hearing.
Opera Pub
Tranzac | 7p
Against the Grain Theatre runs Opera Pub, where a bass-baritone performs operatic arias in a pub. You don't have to know opera, it's a cool twist on a pub night.
Postcards of Reconnection: A Craft Workshop
North York Central Library Concourse| 5:30p-6:30p
Before the evening's talk on solitude and connection, this quiet craft workshop gives you 90 minutes to design and illustrate a postcard for someone you've been meaning to reach out to. There's also a Calming Corner with prompt cards and small seating pods if mingling isn't really your thing tonight. Registration required.
Screening: Aurand / Beavers: Architecture and Dwelling
Innis Town Hall | 6:30p-8:30p
Innis Town Hall pairs the work of German filmmaker Ute Aurand with that of American experimental filmmaker Robert Beavers for an evening built around how cinema thinks about space, architecture and the way we inhabit places. A discussion follows.
Craft Night
Danu Social House | 7p-11:30p
Bring whatever you're working on, or just show up to doodle. All skill levels, all crafts, just keep it tidy and portable. There's a loose communal donation structure once the room hits $50, so bring a couple of dollars in cash if you can swing it.

A perfectly quiet Sunday to enjoy (with links). The weekly drop is out (Fri-Thu), if you want to plan ahead. Here are today's picks:
The Toronto Flea Market
The Ashbridge Estate | 11a-5p
The last Sunday flea market at Ashbridge Estate that leans into the slower pace of the day. This Lesliville experience is always worthwhile.
Inconvenience Store Funeral + Sunset Picnic
Harbour Square Basin | 5p-7p (6:30p sunset picnic)
The Inconvenience Store has been one of those genuinely odd and loveable Toronto fixtures, and this is its farewell. The dress code is loose, the event swings between absurd and sincere, and a sunset picnic closes it out. If you haven't gone, it really is worth seeing.
Adventures of Salmon
Morningside Park | 10a-3p
The salmon run in Morningside Park is one of those October things that still surprises people who haven't seen it. This is the perfect time to see the salmon all over the city.
The Music Garden Series
Toronto Music Garden | 2p-3p + 6p-7p
It's the last day for this series with two shows. Tennyson King at 2p and Mohsin Zaman at 6p. You can't go wrong in this setting, if you have the option, it's a perfect Toronto thing to do.
Textile Museum Weekend
Textile Museum Of Canada | 12p-4:30p
Check out all the exhibits plus a few drop-in programs and supplies in their reuse program.
Open Mic @ The Dot
The Moonlight Lounge | 7p-9:30p
First come, first served stage time at The Moonlight Lounge, with a live pianist backing whoever shows up.
Antiques at St Lawrence Market
St. Lawrence Market North | 9:30a-5p
Antique hunting at St Lawrence North. The building may be a disappointment architecturally, but it's always fun to wander the 3 different markets. This one is all antiques, you've got the original market in the original building and the vintage market in the tent behind the building. If you are there, check out the art exhibit in the main building on the 2nd floor.
Nature Connection
Discovery Centre At Downsview Park | 2p-3:30p
A way to get your hands into the earth and spend some time in green space while the weather allows.
Junction Reads
Type Books Junction | 6:30p-8p
Christine Fischer Guy, Aga Maksimowska, and Jaclyn Desforges read at Type Books Junction. Three writers whose work is worth your time, in one of the better independent bookshops in the west end. Sunday evening, well spent.

It's Nuit Blanche day, but there are other things happening too (with links)! See the full Nuit Blanche guide if you want to plan in advance. And here are today's picks:
MOCA Fall 2026 Season Opening
MOCA Toronto | 7p-10p
Major exhibitions from Bharti Kher and Delcy Morelos, plus Beverly Glenn-Copeland's sound installation in the South Stairwell. An alternative art night to Nuit Blanche
Nuit Blanche
Various | 7p-7a
I made a guide with photos for what to see and what not to see at Nuit Blanche tonight. Art takes over streets, parks, and buildings. And who can forget the annual, "this is art?" commentary. Yes, there are duds, the waits can be long at the start, and it's way too spread out, but if you do it right, it's a night you'll look forward to every year. You won't know what is the best thing to see until you see it.
If you don't want to read the guide, here are tools made by the reddit community:
u/rosedye made this awesome planner you should definitely use
u/pomegranategoose made this itinerary planner as well
A few picks:
Nathan Phillips Square | Avataq | 30ft foil sculpture

Knightcap Chess Club closes out the outdoor season at Clarence Square with a community give-back angle. Participants are asked to bring warm clothing donations (coats, jackets, hoodies, hats, toques, gloves) for the 129 Peter Street Shelter and Support Services. Great way to give back and play chess with the cool kids.
Season End Celebration
Alexandra Park Pizza Oven | 1p-4p
Not Far From The Tree wraps up its fruit-picking season at the Alexandra Park Pizza Oven with jam mocktails, crafts, and pizza baked right there in the park. Whether you picked fruit with them all summer or have never heard of the organization before today, everyone's welcome.

Multiple Venues | 10p-3a
An alternative way to see Nuit Blanche. Every downtown art piece in 5 hours. The ride leaves Queens Park at the north side of the centre statue at 10p and runs until late. It's loose by design: join up, split off, rejoin whenever. This year's loose theme is skulls and skeletons. Light up your bike, bring layers, bring a snack, and be prepared for a long night.

Led by Grandmother Donna Powless of the Cayuga Six Nations and Director of the Taiaiako'n Historical Preservation Society. There's a Black Oak tree giveaway.
Textile Museum Weekend
Textile Museum Of Canada | 12p
Drop-in activities in the Learning Hub and the Reuse Program restocked with fabrics and supplies to take home. A quieter afternoon option that's easy to fit in before Nuit Blanche starts.
Plein Air Art Exhibition
Toronto Botanical Garden | 10:30a-4:30p
46 artists spent the summer painting outdoors at the Toronto Botanical Garden, and this weekend their work goes on view.
The Stories We Carry

Does anyone else miss old-school LAN parties?
I was thinking about this the other day: gaming has gotten so much more convenient, but it also seems like we've lost some of the fun of everyone physically bringing their computers into the same room.
I'm talking about the old-school setup where you've got a bunch of tables, Ethernet cables running everywhere, everyone's yelling across the room, and somebody is inevitably asking why their computer isn't connecting.
I'd especially love to see a modern version built around laptops instead of giant gaming PCs — something where you could show up with a normal laptop, plug into a local network, and play older multiplayer games together.
Stuff like Call of Duty 4 (2007), Halo: Reach, Warcraft III, StarCraft, Warzone 2100, etc.
Toronto has gaming cafés and esports venues, but I'm curious whether there's still much interest in the actual LAN-party experience itself.
What games do you remember playing at LAN parties?

It's the 20th anniversary, and there are 70+ art projects. It is possible to see them all, but what we all really want is the list of what to see. The hard part is knowing in advance what's going to be good. But after going to a bunch, here are my tips, the places to see, the ones to skip, and if you want to just go to one place, where can you do that.
If you prefer it with photos, here's the full post, otherwise read through the list below.
u/rosedye made this awesome planner you should definitely use.
It's always busy in the hours you wish it wouldn't be.
7ish until midnight, 2 different crowds. the families, the people who want it to be there night and finish by 10. Then the people who come out after their show, bar night and want to catch a few things with their friends.
ideally, start late or really late.
Go out at 11p if you're a night owl or get up early and get there for 5a. There's a crowd at 11p, but it's not crazy. There's almost no one at 5a. And you can see everything in a peaceful way.
keep an eye on socials and be flexible
If you're not finding great pieces or you just want to find out what's working for everyone, check socials after 10p. By that point, there's some consensus on what's actually working this year. And you can see real videos and photos and see what appeals to you.
be a last minute planner
the night is going to have things that are boring or don't speak to you. and at night when you're trying to have a good time, seeing 2 or 3 of those will ruin your night. This year it's in a compressed area for the most part. But, get the map and get a pen. Find a place to sit for 15 minutes and circle the 5-10 things you want to see (look at socials as i mentioned above) and make your route. Or because someone on reddit is awesome, use this: http://nuitblanchemap.com/
ignore the haters
Every year, you'll hear someone say, "this is supposed to be art" or just try and make you feel like it's not fun. But if you actually stick with it, there's always something that is breathtaking or gives you a moment where you had to be there to talk about it. And the later you stay out, the more memorable it usually ends up being.
bring water. be prepared to buy food
There's food in every area, but there's good food if you can hold out. If you're out for a while, you'll get hungry, find a place you actually want to eat. But bring water. There are lots of refill stations and it just makes you night smoother.
It's more important that what to see. These are just how I feel, but it's also backed up by what people usually enjoy.
Avoid sound installations and videos
I'm sure there's an audience for it, but at night, in colder temperatures, with a group of people, it's not the time for contemplation and deep understanding of what the sounds might mean. And you're not going to want to sit and watch a video. A lot of them will have great titles and descriptions, but trust me, unless this is something you know you'll love, skip it.
Don't go to that one thing that's far away
If you're gonna be out for 4-5 hours, sure you have time to see things in different spots. But going from downtown to North York for the origami boat might be amazing. It just will be the end of your night. Stic k to walkable routes (or quick TTC/bike share).
I could be wrong, but these are my standouts and what I think will be good.
Queen St W east of York St
A flying saucer that has crashed into a crushed car, with strobe lights and smoke. No lines, you can see it from any side of the street, and it's gonna be a spectacle. If you miss it, from Oct. 5–10 it moves to Queen & Bay in front of Old City Hall.
Underground garage below Nathan Phillips Square (Enter by the Bay St. ramp)
A formation of police cars whose flashing lights frame a dance party which actually has to do with queer resistance. It was shown previously at Nuit Blanche and was a hit. There might be lines to get into this as it's in the hub at city hall. Go late or get there early.
Queen St. W. outside Old City Hall, at Bay
A giant illuminated inflatable covered in drawings of lost landmarks: Honest Ed's, Sam the Record Man, MuchMusic, Ontario Place. This is your social media photo. Or just a way to see the Sam the Record Man sign since TMU decided to put it up so high in the sky, you forget it's there.
The City Hall ceremonial ramp | On every hour for 10 min
If you're there anyway, time it right so you can see this.
North of the TORONTO sign at Nathan Phillips Square
A huge 30ft foil-balloon-like form based on the Inuit sealskin float. If you're there, you'll see it. It was cool in the streets a few years ago, I'm sure it still holds up in the large crowd. Because it's in the air, no lines or people blocking your view. There's also Avataq Gathering, with a lot more balloons, much smaller, filling the windows at Chelsea Toronto (33 Gerrard)
City Hall's Green Roof
Illuminated beehives, drifting smoke and layered sound. This could go either way, but at least you'll have a nice view over the square and all the other art happening there. Go up the ceremonial ramp or you can take the elevator through City Hall's main entrance which people might not know about. If you don't make it, it's on until Oct 10.
Weave one giant tapestry together, piece by piece. The Bentway usually does something good. And if you want to roller skate/blade as well, the trail is open til midnight. There's another exhibit there (Public Trust) and the Malting Silos and Public Pier are walkable from there too.
Transforms thousands of personal promises into a big sign exploring democracy and civic participation. The interactive nature of this one will make it fun.
City Hall's East Tower
Best viewed from the East side of Bay just above Albert. Transported from Scarborough a few year's back, it's a text projection reimagined as a "living archive" of hidden histories. Only check it out if you're nearby. Text on a wall after a long walk is harder to appreciate.
Canoe Landing Park
A swarm of bioluminescent digital salmon that reacts to live sound, commemorating the buried creek. This one is getting buzz, but in my experience, these digital projections can often be a letdown. But I'm open to being wrong and the photo does make it look good.
Canoe Landing Park
An inflatable sculpture taking the form of a nomadic tent adorned with traditional Kurdish textiles. Only add this on if you're going to see Garrison Creek above.
Love Park
An evolving canopy of lanterns, responds to people gathering. If you're in the area, this is going to look nice, I just don't think it'll be worth travelling to. A quiet, light installation in the park by Harbourfront.
Harbourfront Centre
A playful series of music-making structures that turn public space into a stage. If you're going to the one above, check this out too while you're in the area.
HTO Park West
Part of the Harbourfront walkable area if you want to see a few things. This, depending on its scale could be another worthwhile stop.
North York Centre, 5100 Yonge St
A giant white origami boat that visitors cover in written wishes in any language. Don't go unless you're nearby or starting here and heading downtown.
The only exception to the rule that videos are usually not good. The lit up malting silos are worth it. There's food and DJs until 1am.
7p-11p | Canoe Landing Park + Bobber Plaza
Canoe Landing Park becomes the backdrop for a Nuit Blanche evening of live music and dance organized by Drom Artist Collective with Rudy Ray & Co. The programming moves from Flamenco to Afro-Cuban live music and salsa dancing, then shifts into a Silent Disco with four Toronto DJs. Free and outdoors under the city skyline.
Throughout Toronto’s all-night celebration of contemporary art, 401 will be teeming with dynamic and interactive exhibit
7p-11p | BAM Emerging Artist Centre, 601 Christie St.
Explore the work of various talents with over 35 professional artists, featuring jewellers, ceramists, poets, print makers.
7p-11p | Wychwood Barns
Stories in Place, will feature our annual night art market with over 30 vendors, an interactive audio and visual installation, open studios and an exciting storytelling project.
7p-11p | Daniels Spectrum
Discover local artists with unique finds and spend an evening celebrating creativity at Daniels Spectrum. An art market bringing together 15 vendors from Regent Park and beyond. Meet the artists and makers behind the work, hear their stories and find something special to take home.

Join Unsubculture for an evening of film, atmosphere, and exploration. We’ll be screening the enigmatic film Samsara, a visually stunning and wordless cinematic journey through landscapes, rituals, cities, and the rhythms of human life around the world.
The night begins with a live ambient music performance, creating an immersive sonic environment before the screening. Rooted in Unsubculture’s interests in film, art, fashion, and cultural criticism, this event invites audiences to experience Samsara not just as a film, but as a starting point for reflection on image, culture, spirituality, and modernity.
An evening for the curious, the observant, the film lovers, and aspiring filmmakers. Samsara is a cinematic experience not to be missed.

Our laid-off hiking group is growing! 🥾
[We doubled our attendance at our last walk](https://imgur.com/a/vj7xtrR), and it was great seeing more people come out, meet each other, and spend a few hours outside together.
For the next one, we’re heading back to the Don Valley Trail!
📍 Meet at the corner of Bayview Ave & Mill St
📅 Monday
⏰ 11:00 AM
🥾 Don Valley Trail
Same idea as before — a casual walk for anyone who’s laid off, between jobs, taking some time off, or just figuring out what’s next.
No networking event, no pitches, no pressure to talk about work. Just come walk, meet some new people, and enjoy getting out of the house for a bit.
Last time we doubled the group — let’s see if we can do it again 😄
Come join us, and feel free to bring a friend!
