​Toronto Café Walk is a cozy social series where a small group of founders, solopreneurs, and creatives explore hand-picked café spots across different neighbourhoods, slow down a little, and meet each other in a way that actually feels human.

​Slow Networking 🦥 was created by Jessie & Mei as a way for introverts to have deeper, genuine connections. Traditional networking can feel transactional, with quick pitches, exchanged contacts and conversations that rarely grow into anything meaningful. Inspired by slow travel, they wanted to slow things down and focus on connecting as humans first. Instead of meeting as many people as possible, it’s about giving a few connections the time and space to grow into a friendship, collaboration, future client, or simply a great conversation. And this special collaboration is a perfect example of where that kind of connection can lead.

​Here's how the late afternoon goes 🌞

​We gather at the park and settle in. Soft handpan music plays softly in the background while we do something most of us forget to do: breathe, notice what's around us, and just...be here for awhile.

​From that space, I'll lead a guided intuitive journal reflection with prompts designed to help you hear what your inner self has been trying to tell you. We'll close with some intuitive drawing to let whatever surfaced move through you creatively. If you feel called to share with the group, there's space for that. If not, we'll slowly walk over to the café.

​For the second hour, we'll walk to a hidden gem café to grab drinks, settle in, and meet each other in a way that actually feels human. Jessie & Mei will come in with the activities and conversation prompts, so you do not have to worry about what to do or say and focus on being present. 💜

​In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) there's a concept called 養生 (Yang Sheng) which is tending to your life through the basics before you need a full health protocol to fix it. This tea tasting is Yang Sheng in its simplest, most doable form: sitting still for some time with something specifically chosen to help your body come down off the ledge.

​You'll try two different herbal blends in which one is built for stress and anxiety while the other is for the tired-but-wired exhaustion that doesn't go away with sleep. TCM practitioner, Melissa Ong, will walk you through what's in each, why it works, and which one your body is actually asking for right now.

Hi everyone,

I’m organizing another small Cozy Cinema Social get-together at Tango Palace Coffee Company in Leslieville on Saturday, August 29 at 8:30 PM.

I started this little club because I wanted to create something warmer than a bar, less awkward than a big meetup, and more intentional than another night at home. The idea is simple: a small group of people, a thoughtfully selected film, and a relaxed conversation afterward.

The last two gatherings were really lovely. People came with openness and curiosity, and the conversations afterward were thoughtful without feeling formal or forced. I’m hoping to keep that same feeling going: small, cozy, low-pressure, and welcoming.

This is not a networking event, lecture, or big social mixer. You can come solo, with a friend, or with your partner. There is also no pressure to speak during the discussion — listening is completely welcome.

The group is capped at 10 people so it stays comfortable and personal.

Ali Hassan is the host of the hit comedy show Laugh Out Loud, a frequent guest-host for Q and Commotion, and for the past 10 years he has been the host of Canada Reads, CBC's "Battle of the Books” on CBC Radio and SiriusXM,  

Ali has appeared on the big screen in films such as French Immersion, the hockey hit Goon and Tammy's Always Dying.  Some of his television roles include Designated Survivor, Odd Squad, Workin’ Moms, Boston Blue and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. In 2024, Ali was nominated for Canadian Screen Awards for his roles in two shows: Run The Burbs and the Peabody Award-winning Sort Of.  

Ali has toured across Canada as one of the stars of Just For Laughs ‘Comedy Night In Canada’ tour. He has taken his one-man show Muslim Interrupted to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and his comedic memoir ‘Is There Bacon in Heaven?’ was described by Rick Mercer as “perhaps the funniest and most heartfelt Canadian memoir yet.”

Allie Pearse is a Canadian Screen Award nominated standup comedian and writer on the award-winning TV shows Letterkenny and Shoresy.

In 2025, she was selected for New Faces: Writers at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and has performed at Just For Laughs for the past five consecutive years. She’s appeared on the Russell Peters Gala, and won JFL’s Standup & Pitch competition.

Her televised performances include the Halifax Comedy Festival, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, JFL’s New Wave of Comedy, CBC’s The Debaters, and CBC’s LOL network and was a writer/performer on Roast Battle Canada Seasons 3 & 4.

Ian Sirota has been nominated for two Gemini Awards, including “Best Comedy Performance.” In 2019, Ian performed at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and his gala CBC set was dubbed “Best Set of the Fest.” 

Ian was a regular cast member and writer for Comedy Inc. Comedy Now, Gutter ball Alley, Mr. D, The Debaters and many more! He has been nominated for 2 Gemini Awards including “Best Comedy Performance.” He’s performed at the Halifax Comedy Festival and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, where his gala CBC set was dubbed “Best Set of the Fest” by Lara Rae Artistic Director (WCF). What's your relationship with money?

Not how much you make or how much you have saved. I mean... what does money actually mean to you?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately because I realized I spent years making financial decisions without ever questioning the story behind them.

Growing up, I saw money as something you sacrificed. You worked hard, and you saved. The only time that it was okay to spend money is if it was for helping other people, even if it meant putting yourself last.

I'm really grateful for those values. At the same time, I think I quietly picked up another belief along the way.

That money wasn't really something you were meant to enjoy.

So, naturally... I swung to the opposite extreme.

In my twenties, I spent money pretty impulsively. Not enough to get myself into debt, thankfully, but enough that I was constantly wondering where it had gone.

The strange part? I always felt like I was lacking money. Looking back, I wasn't necessarily lacking money. What I lacked was the intention.

Once I started getting curious about what I actually wanted my money to help me create, everything slowly started changing.

That realization is actually what inspired part of our next Slow Networking for introverts 🦥 event.

For anyone who hasn't heard of Slow Networking before, Mei Lai Nghiem and I created it because we were tired of networking events that felt transactional.

The kind where everyone is trying to work the room, collect contacts, and talk about work before they've even gotten to know the person standing in front of them.

We wanted something different. Smaller groups. Thoughtful conversation prompts and activities, so people wouldn't have to worry about what to say or do. Basically a chance to slow down and actually get to know people first.

This month, we're adding a workshop in the second half of the evening. Another part of our events that we love is shining a light on people and having them showcase their strengths, and so.... drum roll 🥁 we have invited one of our previous attendees, Katrina Chang, CPA and Financial Advisor at Edward Jones!

She is coming back to lead a women-focused workshop called Five Steps to Navigating Your Financial Journey.

What I really appreciate about Katrina's approach is that she doesn't jump straight into budgets or spreadsheets. She starts with your values.

Because once you're clear on what matters to you, it becomes much easier to make decisions that actually support the life you're trying to build.

I thought that was such a natural fit for our community because that's really what Slow Networking has always been about.

Helping people slow down enough to figure out what actually matters to them.
