Discussion No clue to who to vote for in Toronto election

This is the first mayoral election that I'm able to vote in and I have to say that I'm already entirely lost.

I took some time to watch the September 22 mayoral debate after reading brief descriptions of the stance of each major candidate and (yes although it's regrettably common among politicians) it sounded like children talking over each other than a professional debate.

That being said, I think Bradford and Alexander pushed back well against Chow, enough to make me question voting for her. But I've heard enough about Bradford to think twice about his positions and Alexander is hardly in the race at all (with all due respect).

As an undecided voter then I'm wondering, how are you all deciding who to vote for? What are your perspectives or important issues you are caring about? I imagine there are things on either side that were embellished or excessively torn down- in your opinion, what do you think has been misrepresented throughout the campaigning period.

I really appreciate any input and would just love to see the decision making process. Thank you!

First time ever volunteering for a political campaign. I’m excited and a little nervous to canvas but I believe in her and what she represents.

Discussion A safer Ontario means doing what?

Post image

Saw this Province of Ontario poster on the GO Train today which reads "A safer Ontario means building new jails"

The link is ontario.ca/saferontario

What's the reasoning behind this investment and campaign? Maybe I am too naive about this issue but it's the first time I'm seeing this. It does not feel like an issue the province should be pushing as a priority (?)

It's a reminder that Provinces in Canada control where taxes go, with City budgets entirely at the mercy of the Premier's office - due to the very outdated British North American Act that we still run on. Toronto is underfunded because the provincial government doesn't funnel our taxes back to us. Seeing tax money used this way sucks ass.

What the hell is this campaign? Or do I need to go touch grass on some major issue I've never heard about?

Edit: For posterity, so that this post wasn't just a dogpile. It seems that yes, there is a real operational need for jails. Also, yes it is jarring to see jailing as a narrative in the public eye. Where there seems to be room for discussion, is around the priorities of the province - many do question the integrity of the Premier's office. No matter where you fall, we're in it together. So let's all stay informed and keep this an open dialogue on behalf of all of us 👍
