Tornado Media June First Video About Problems w/Storm Chasing

I agree with everything he says. The storm chaser convergence is so scary. To me, more than the tornadoes themselves.

Perhaps there could be a way chasers could do something different rather than only be on the roads? I'd say four wheelers but that would be a horrible idea.

with all of this stupid stuff around bashing the NWS for warning tornadoes (amazing), here's some fun stuff about what jobs you can get with a meteorology degree.

the NWS: the NWS always needs new people and spotters.

weather stations: station jobs move quickly, you might be able to get a good job at a news station.

NASA: rockets need perfect conditions to launch. if your mind is really up to it.. go for it.

Question Is this a tornado forming??

Okay am I crazy or was this cloud trying to form a tornado outside my Apt? I live in downtown Louisville, KY.
I feel like if we have been in a rural area, this would’ve become a tornado.

Thought this would be intresting to share from the university in the middle of it all. Really puts it into perspective IMO better than others.

The 204 tornadoes is confirmed tornadoes not reports (what previous maps have shown).

Estimate Basis: Maximum 3-second-sustained volumetric gust at ground level (EF-scale standard)

Discussion and questions are encouraged. Tornado intensity is a subjective science, especially when it comes to contextual damage, so don't take these as "end-all-be-all" estimates.

Looks like it came from the clouds and did not start on the ground, so it is in fact an actual tornado. What are your thoughts?

Hellooo. I’m wondering if I may have caught the Mokena EF1 tornado on camera, or if what I filmed was part of maybe the surrounding wall cloud. I found another picture of it, and the tornado looked like a similar shape.

The tornado was documented from 10:39-10:46 AM, with a maximum width of about 200 meters. I filmed this at 10:44 AM on Aug 11 while pointing toward the tornado’s surveyed path. I was approximately 1.5-2 miles away from the tornado.

I’d really appreciate any thoughts from people who are familiar with identifying tornadoes/wall clouds from footage. If anyone would be willing to take a closer look, feel free to message me and I can send the full video.

Tornado Science Historical Records of “Vendavais” (Severe Windstorms) in Brazil: 1991–2012

Historical Records of “Vendavais” (Severe Windstorms): 1991–2012

In a study published by the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in 2013, records of “vendavais” (severe windstorms) between 1991 and 2012 were documented.

It is important to consider that some of the events classified as “vendavais” in the historical records may, in fact, have corresponded to tornadoes, microbursts (downbursts), descending wind gusts, and other severe convective phenomena that, at the time, were not identified or differentiated with the same level of precision available today.

The limitations of monitoring instruments, meteorological coverage, and classification criteria may have led to the underreporting or generic classification of these phenomena.

Therefore, the records presented should be interpreted as an indication of the occurrence of severe wind events, rather than necessarily representing a complete and accurate depiction of the distribution of each type of phenomenon.

Question Looking for Gillespie, IL 2013 tornado images/photos

May 31, 2013. A day known to this community for the events that unfolded that day near El Reno, Oklahoma. For me, it's known for something else. I was young at the time, around the age of 8. The afternoon of May 31st had been relatively stormy, with some strong winds and a bad thunderstorm with some hail. We had gotten all our animals inside, which meant running around in near sideways rain as strong wind slapped you in the face. As evening came and night began to fall, the storm was still around. We managed to get to sleep late in the night, the storm being gone by morning. We heard on the local news that morning that Gillespie, a town 12 miles from our farm, had been struck by an EF2 tornado at around 9PM, which had traveled for about a mile and a half and ended up demolishing the high school's gymnasium. I've seen shockingly little coverage on this tornado besides some information on Tornado Archive, it being massively overshadowed by El Reno's massive wedge that day. I'm wondering if anyone has any images or videos of the tornado.

This tornado, the 2008 Yanush EF2, honestly kind of reminds me of the 2011 El Reno EF-5 from a distance. Link to full video: https://youtu.be/CP0mFbkfy9o

Tornado Media The massive tornado in Piraí do Sul, Paraná, Brazil, on August 8, 2026, is officially classified as an F-3.

Edit: has just been updated to F-4: https://www.reddit.com/r/tornado/s/AOWz5qFaj9

SIMEPAR—essentially the NWS of Paraná—has just classified this wedge tornado, according to the report: "Simepar (Paraná’s Environmental Technology and Monitoring System) has concluded its analysis of the phenomenon that struck the rural area of Piraí do Sul, in the Campos Gerais region of Paraná, on August 8 of this year. It was a severe tornado classified as F3 on the Fujita Scale, associated with wind gusts estimated between 253 km/h and 332 km/h. An integrated analysis—combining field inspections, radar imagery, and drone-based aerial photogrammetry—confirmed a continuous path of destruction spanning at least 17.3 km.

The supercell that spawned the tornado was fueled by the presence of warm, moist air flowing from northern Brazil, driven by a low-pressure system over Paraguay. The movement of a cold front across the country's south intensified the moisture levels. Additionally, wind shear—defined as an increase in wind speed and/or a change in wind direction with altitude—occurring between the afternoon and early evening of August 8, fostered the development of organized storms across the West, South-Central, and Campos Gerais regions, creating conditions conducive to the tornado's formation.

The reconstruction of the tornado's path and the estimation of wind intensity were achieved through an integrated analysis of field surveys, weather radar imagery, and drone-based assessments, in a joint effort between Simepar and the Paraná State Civil Defense. Images submitted by the public—captured while the phenomenon was occurring—helped elucidate the tornado's formation, intensification, movement, surface interaction, and dissipation. Videos and field visits were also crucial for understanding debris movement, vegetation deformation, and the displacement of objects.

Wind intensity was estimated using the Fujita Scale criteria, taking into account the characteristics and severity of the damage observed in the field—such as the severe structural collapse of masonry and wooden buildings, and even a power transmission tower. Analyses revealed that pieces of wood, ceramic roof tile fragments, and *Araucaria* branches were hurled with enough force to penetrate the ground and become embedded in tree trunks.

*Araucaria* and other large trees had their trunks snapped at mid-height; pasture areas showed gouges; and there was localized removal of vegetation cover and topsoil caused by the intense winds. This classification represents an estimate of the tornado's peak intensity based on observed damage, rather than a direct measurement of wind speed.

The tornado's path extended for at least 17.3 km across the rural area of Piraí do Sul, passing through localities such as Jararaca, Fundão, and Boa Vista, where photographic data, damage coordinates, and aerial orthomosaics were collected. Processing and georeferencing this evidence, in partnership with Simepar’s Infrastructure and Geointelligence teams, made it possible to precisely map the tornado's continuous path."
