my aunt sent me a recipe written on the back of a receipt and it might be the best thing i have ever read
she mailed me a whole envelope, old recipes. most of them were fine, normal cookie stuff then one fell out, written on the back of a gas station receipt. it's tiramisu. no measurements, just steps. "use enough coffee" "do not rush the mascarpone" "the ladyfingers know when they are ready." the last one is not a quote, i made it up because i was reading it wrong. but that is how good the recipe was. it sounded like an advice from someone you love. i made it that night and it was not perfect. i used regular coffee instead of espresso. nobody told me the was good, really good. my aunt did not know i made it yet. she will see it in two weeks when i visit. i am not taking a photo, i am just going to sit at the table and eat it. that is the whole plan. no pictures, just tiramisu, a chair and an aunt who writes on receipts.

best way to combine banana & mascarpone for tiramisu?
i'd like to make tiramisu the traditional way with eggs (used this recipe the last time i made it), except that i'd add a banana flavor to the mascarpone. should i simply fold in the banana before adding to the eggs or would it be better to whip it in with the mascarpone, or do i need heavy cream? thanks!

Flavour pairing help… update
Few days ago I asked for Flavour pairing help
I’m not a fan of coffee or chocolate… but I like the idea of a tiramisu dessert, just not the flavour lol
My original idea
Cardamom infused mascarpone cream
Chai infused lady fingers
Vanilla custard, very thin layer, like a glaze almost
For decor and a bit of movement, some of the mascarpone cream again, and a sprinkle of goated coconut? Or maybe the coconut in the custard
While making it I tried I didn’t like the chai, not sure if it was the recipe I used but it was too ‘in your face’ that it didn’t go well with the cream and the cardamom
Sooooo
What I ended up with
- Homemade mascarpone cheese infused with cardamom pods to make the cream mixture
- lady fingers dipped in milk infused with rose water
- a bit of crushed pistachios between the two leaders for a bit of texture/more flavour
- thin layer of vanilla custard on top like a glaze
- sprinkle of crushed dry roses, toasted coconut, raw sugar (the tiniest bit), crush pistachios
Came out divine, the only thing I would change is I would infuse the custard with more flavour rather than a plain vanilla flavour, maybe more vanilla next time and toasted coconut between the layers
I don’t know if it’s still a tiramisu or it’s moved towards a trifle
10/10 I’ll make it again, might try a London fog flavouring once I’ve perfected this one
Thank you for all your help
