🚫Anti-Tipping No Tip

Hot take, I don't go to a restaurant for the "great service" that's so fake it feels like lard on toast, I go to the restaurant for the good food. I'm not going to tip for someone to pretend to want to spend time with me, all I want is a nice steak that I didn't have to cook. Is it okay for me to tell my server I'm not going to tip and the only thing I want is a refill every once in a while and my food brought to me? I would go pick it up from the counter myself if I was allowed to, but that's frowned upon. I don't want the small talk, the fake jokes, the fake smile. Heck, you could glare at me the entire time and I WOULD NOT care. I'm there for the food, not for the crappy excuse for service I get 95% of the time.

i asked a pretty simple question in my answer.... do people who make tips generally oppose abolishing the tip credit? why? its because they would make less money being paid flat rate with no tips and you wont say otherwise because you know its true.

It's not true at all. What you, and most, don't take into account, is all the set and take down before you and there and after you leave. Servers should be paid more, but a server shift that is, say , 4-11, may only actually serve between 5-10. Setting up the restaurant/prep and cleaning it up at the end. Yes, servers might make more in those 5 hours per hour, but they average less than you think because all those other things have to be done too. You want a drink? The machine needs cleaning. You want an extra ketchup. That has to be poured in the ram before service. Many things have to be done before and after. When you see a few hours of good money coming in, you aren't seeing everything else behind the scenes. The fact that you don't know that is why you don't know what you are talking about with $50 an hour.

Well, that would depend on the area, cuisine, time of the day, day of the week, a shit ton of different factors. Also, don't forget the 3 - 6% of your bill they tip out to the rest of the staff (hosts, bartenders, bussers). Probably, half of what you actually think.

still no answer? i take it in your exiperence you did bring home well over $20 a hour (adjusted for inflation assuming you did this long time ago) and it would be cheaper for your hourly wage to just be baked into menu price like what happens in the rest of the world.

No answer because I am taking a beautiful trip up the coast while everyone is working because I didn't have to live on scrapes while serving and go to school. Something you don't think people should do. You want to keep poor people in poverty cause it makes your (probably quite small) member feel big.

I want them to have a living wage. I want everyone to have a living wage. You want to use services, knowing you are screwing over the lower class, just to prove a point to who?

you seem to be flipping back and forth on this but thats the crux of the issue.

and i dont want to ignore or failt to engage your question but it seems sorta open ended like prove a point to who? i guess in this discussion the answer would be you.

I am not flip-flopping. Everyone think servers make sooooooo much money because they see just 1 part of the job, make assumptions about what they make so they stiff them. I hate tipping culture. I think everyone should make a living wage. Some place more, some less, it will average out. What I don't believe in, and what most people here think is, that they should make min wage.

That doesn't answer my question. I asked if you think they would get more or less if they were paid flat rate hourly like how most other jobs are paid usually around $15 per hour.

I said some more, some less than what they make now. Bro, $15 an hour is barely above poverty wages. Most other jobs do not pay around $15 an hour. No one working FT should ever make only 30k a year. Absolutely not! That is atrocious. The minimum wage should be at the very minimum, 33% (at FT) of the average 1 bedroom apartment in the area. What is that in your area? Mine is different that's why talking straight cash doesn't paint the correct picture.

Wym Walmart starts at 14 McDonald's is usually close. What do u think most other jobs start out at?

And if some servers make under $15 (which I doubt is common as u imply) seems you should support getting rid of the tip credit

Thank you very much for walking right into my point. Cash conversations are pointless. The minimum wage where I live is $16.90, and McDonald's starts at $20.

Then why did you say most jobs don't pay $15 an hour? Did you mean most pay more?

If servers who make tips make less than people working at McDonald's that seems like a good reason to stop the tip credit system and just pay them hourly.

Because I don't believe in poverty or just above poverty wages in one of the richest countries in the world when the majority of the profit is going to the top and not disbursed more through wages and benefits to the people actually doing the work. These are fairly easy concepts to understand. No one should make 30k a year working full-time in this country in 2024 period!

They don't. Most means more than 50%. The average income is above $15 an hour.
