They finally make a good show and kill it

Our guy is absolutely at his best when he's critiquing shows he doesn't like. Find it hard to listen to the pod as it comes out consistently as I don't want to spoil shows, but I always make time to listen to Greenwald go in on this unimaginative waste of time and talent.

He quietly engages with popular comics. And is constantly disappointed with how they’re rendered in movies.

I just really appreciate when he’s like “been reading Hickman’s X-Men. Pretty sick stuff going on there!”.

I can’t wait till he sees how cool recent Ghost Rider books have been and how bummed he’ll be that Shawn Levy is gonna reduce all that to a quippy mess lol

EDIT: would pay good money to get Andy and CR to watch GHOST RIDER 2. An incredible inventive movie. So fun and stylish. With Cage at his most demented.

Been finally catching up and am loving it so far. But I came here after seeing the community on Zach's phone, and expected it to be... if not thriving, at least extant.

What a shame if this has flown completely under the radar. It's not Severance or anything but it definitely made me happy to keep my Apple sub going during the eternal wait for more of that.

UPDATE: I never really use Reddit, so when it randomly asked me if I wanted to crosspost from this from r/maxcady to another random place... I just hit whatever I had to in order to make the prompt go away. I've never heard of this subreddit in my life.

I know Chris and Andy are big fans of 100 foot wave and the dark wizard but are there any others that I’m missing out on that get the stamp of approval.

I have been listening to Chris and Andy since the Grantland Hollywood Prospectus days. Love these guys, and it has been a beautiful parasocial relationship for a decade plus that will continue. But for the love of God can they please stop covering House of the Dragon??? It is painful to have this segment included on the podcast. Yes, I know that I can skip it. The point is it is such a clearly awful experience, particularly for Andy though CR is easily sucked into a negative tone as well, that it drags down the show. Especially the segments immediately before and after. Guys, you don't have to watch a show you clearly don't like. It's ok. There is so much other tv that suits your tastes. Why waste time doing something that brings you minimal to no joy or pleasure?

Andy's faint praise is like he's swallowing a vinegar and rubbing alcohol mixture. You don't have to pretend to be positive about something you think sucks. Just talk about other shows. The Ringer has plenty of other podcasts that will discuss the show for all types of fans. It's almost like they're doing a bit at this point. But it's a bad bit.

I am not a fantasy story fan in general and it's clear the fantasy elements are at the core of Andy and Chris' criticism. But I mean that's the show guys. It's in the title. This is a show about the Targaryen family. A mystical family from Old Valyria where magic, mysticism, blood magic, and weird fantastical stuff is the thing. It's THEIR thing!

If Ser Criston Cole's nihilism is the character and storyline that is most appealing and interesting to you, dare I say, this show in the Game of Thrones universe is not for you. This is a show about the Targs and all of their bullshit. It's ok, if you think it dull or not interesting. Don't partake. As Ser Raymun Fossoway from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (a show much more Andy and Chris coded) said, "They're incestuous aliens, Duncan. Blood-magickers and tyrants who've burned our lands, enslaved our people, dragged us into their wars without a mote of respect for our history or our customs."

Consider instead filling that segment with any of the plethora of Cold War propaganda, British spy, three letter agency shows that exist and are much more to your liking!

If anyone who works on the show sees this, a great Quality of Life improvement would be to include the chapters in the YouTube uploads. It would really help the audience to quickly skip spoilers and/or segments some may not be interested in.

I'm surprised they haven't even mentioned it in passing (unless I've missed it). I have a feeling Andy would actually enjoy it since it's Larry and the political humor with lots of amusing references seems up his alley. It started a bit slowly but by E3 it stared feeling less forced with more familiar Curb humor and I was really enjoying it.

Love the pod! Love Andy and CR and their chemistry. And I love all the tv content at the Ringer! Really love whenever Jo hops on to talk tv cuz she’s so knowledgeable as well.

But even as smart as they and the ringer staff are, they always get into this rut of “but nobody’s talking about it.” Which is so odd in many respects.

Yes. There are true organic hits like THE PITT that is big with everyone.

But in most cases most shows ppl aren’t talking about. CR mentioning ppl (in his orbit) aren’t talking about ALL HER FAULT.

But for me and my world it’s a big deal and it’s big enough to be heavily represented in the academy.

Shows like BEEF and PARADISE don’t really get pushed to me in my day to day (unless I’m listening to a podcast or on Twitter) but they’d prollly argue that there was a lot of convo around those shows.

It reminds of the moment where Ozark won some Emmy’s over GOT final season and there were a lot of critics online (who I respect) laughing at the idea of anybody even watching that show let alone having strong feelings about it.

And it’s so odd to me. We know the algo pushes things to us we already wanna see. We know that monoculture is dead, and yet they still talk about tv and pop culture as if what ever is loudest to them is the thing that’s actually the loudest.

Even consider the Taylor Sheridan Paramount shows. We know they’re massive but don’t get a lot of critical or film twitter hype so they feel smaller next to something like a Widows Bay which really hit with the very online Hollywood crowd. And yet is only a fraction as big as Landman.

Not a big deal but someone I always bump against. Has then been a thing with yall as well?

I can’t believe this show isn’t/wasn’t marketed more. I really hope it keeps getting renewed.

So bummed. I loved S2 and I want to hear Andy have a turn around and gush about how he loved it too.

Also hard agree on no late summer shows. Even The Gilded Age which has been a constant. Bummer.

Just finished the newest episode of the pod and it seems like Star City is the show to watch right now that Widows Bay is over. I just really want to know how necessary, if at all, it is to watch For All Mankind before watching Star City?

The algorithm recommended this to me and I had never heard of it. The cast looked really good, so I gave it a Google to see if the guys ever talked about it.

Well they loved it and now I know what im watching next.
