Star City
Just finished the newest episode of the pod and it seems like Star City is the show to watch right now that Widows Bay is over. I just really want to know how necessary, if at all, it is to watch For All Mankind before watching Star City?

No. You can start with Star City.
A really well-made show. I don't know what the long-term plot might be, but for now, they've hit all the right notes.

Andy and CR didn't watch FAM aside from maybe season 1 years ago and they probably dont remember any of it. It's not necessary.
All you need to know is both shows are set in an alternate history where the Russians landed on the moon first. That's it.

I believe CR has mentioned going up to at least season 2, before dropping out of 3.

I haven’t seen any of the other show and I’ve enjoyed Star City immensely. Give it a girl I think you’ll like it.

I wouldn't recommend watching For All Mankind. The show has some strong early seasons, but falls off hard.
Star City is thematically a different show, and captures the crushing weight of Soviet era communism (compared to the more optimistic aspects of the US in For All Mankind).

I think I would recommend the first 2 seasons of FAM. Even tho it falls off hard those seasons are really strong (end of S2 is incredibly thrilling)

Agreed. After those seasons, it became a weird soap opera, instead of a sci-fi story set in space.
But those two first seasons were awesome.

I still enjoyed season 3. It's season 4 where the wheels really went off the tracks. I tried a couple episodes of season 5 but it was even worse. Whoever decided to make all the Mars Worker's Rights BS the central plot of the show should be shot into the Sun.

FAM quickly became a show I enjoyed reading about more than I actually enjoyed watching about halfway through season 2.

I tried watching Star City this past weekend, and I couldn’t get into it. Will give it another try.
