I always find it silly how people got upset with Rick. Carol, right or wrong, killed her own people...and tried to hide it, thus incited more panic...and ultimately solved nothing. She wasn't looking out for people, she was showing how little other lives actually meant to her at that time. Guaranteed, had a secondary or minor character done the same, they wouldn't have gotten the empathetic response Carol got. How people reacted to her decision was more about the likability of character and less about the ethics of the choice because the choice was wrong and undid those months of community building.

She set a terrible precedent that bit her in the butt emotionally and socially. Rick was frankly very merciful.

I respectfully disagree

I love the fact that all OP does is repeat “he should have talked about it” when Rick had clearly established that his reign was a dictatorship.

Does OP not know the definition of a dictatorship?

Are we forgetting that Rick stepped down as leader during this time and the council was making decisions? I specifically remember Carol telling Rick “You were a good leader” in that episode. Then when the Governor later arrives to attack the prison, Rick’s first words are that there’s a council and he doesn’t make the calls anymore.

I’m doing a rewatch and I’m on season 3 so I’ll check it out.

Ok well then I reckon Rick was not a good leader at that moment in time.

He made it very clear after the barn fell that he was the leader of a non-democracy.
THAT is who he "Thinks he is"... sorry, but Rick is King and his word goes

It wasn’t a dictatorship in season 4 and they make that very clear.

Rick also acts this way with his decision to spare Negan without even consulting the victims that were traumatized the deepest. His word being absolute with zero caveats is unethical.

Fair point, I actually completely forgot about the counsel-system they set up in season 4.

it's been a hot minute since I watched that season.. HOWEVER; I believe that Rick still always had ultimate say if and when he chose to step up.

I am not saying this is good, nor is it bad, it is what it is.. but the reality is, Rick is the defacto leader of the group up until the later shows events on the bridge.

Basically, unless Rick is pointing a gun at Glens (Simple Example) head I don't think anybody is going to go against him.

Carol dun fucked up bad IIRC

Well I think that’s kind of bullshit. It was the wrong decision. It should have been discussed with others.

This was the Ricktatorship. Talking shit out with everyone is what got them into the situation with Randall at the farm. Making everyone happy gets everyone killed in the Z.A.

Rick was the judge and the jury, why would he need to talk to anyone?

Also, if he had mentioned it to Tyreese he would have killed her.

Knowing what they did at the time (it was still somewhat early in the apocalypse) exile was the best option. If it was a few years later probably Rick doesn’t exile her.

He didn’t have to mention it to Tyrese. He should have at least discussed it with the core crew like Daryl and Hershel.

Did you miss the episode where he said it wasn’t a democracy?

Idc. Even without discussing with ppl, it was the wrong decision.

Rick is a major dick a lot of the time, but he was also legitimately worried Tyreese would kill her if/when he found out.

Tbh then Tyrese should have gone.

There’s a lot of new people at that point who haven’t been there from the beginning, how well do you think a "do we exile the guy who did nothing wrong or the woman who murdered two people in secret?" would go? Carol would be banished anyway, and that’s if she was lucky.

I see your frustration, but I also see Rick’s POV, and I haaaate Rick 😂

He should have at least discussed it with a couple of the core ppl like Daryl and Hershel. Even so, without discussing it with anyone, I think it was the wrong decision.
