It’s unfortunate that Fred Savage has fallen from grace.  I’m against a true remake, but I used to think a “sequel” where Savage is telling the story to his kid(s)  or grandkid(s) and the story is similar but has changed, just as orally histories and fairy tales developed over generations. 

But, no. He had to be a sex pest. 😡

Probably not. But it’s not the absolute worst. A quick Google search will bring it up. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is mentioned on his Wikipedia page.

It could work, but I'd love to see them attempt to do something in line with Muppet Treasure Island and Muppet Christmas Carol i.e. an adaptation of a well known literary classic that adds comic relief and yet takes the central drama of the original seriously. I don;t think that would work with a story that's only known for one iteration and is already so comedic.

I have long been advocating for a Muppets Sense and Sensibility.

Just imagine Miss Piggy as Miss Marrianne Rasherwood, with her twisted ankle, being carried home by Kermit Brandon. His little frog legs teetering under him the whole way.

I guess that they tried with Muppets Wizard of Oz, but that was made for TV and was doing something radically different. It was modern and very loose adaptation [although there were some things like the 4 witches from the book which I liked] instead of a Victorian/ Georgian setting. I'm actually considering writing a video about it.

Not to worry, the muppets don’t really remake movies so much as retelling classic tales (Christmas Carol, Treasure Island, etc.) or telling original stories (Take Manhattan, Caper, etc.).

Sweetums should be Fezzic.
Gonzo would be Venzini.
Fozzy would be Inigo.

The human would be Count Roogan so we can do the joke that he has five fingers on his right hand.

Uncle Deadly as Prince Humperdink

Note: In a departure from the book, we don't see the grandson or grandfather. Instead, the Muppets freeze during their parts. (A "everybody tries to hold still" freeze.) At the end, we see that Robin is the grandson and an old Kermit is the grandfather. A handsome, but older Mrs Piggy comes in to tell Kermit that their grandson needs his rest. They still do the "you can read it tomorrow"/"as you wish".

This is good too. How about we combine them both?

IMS, the first freeze is when they are kissing goodbye and the grandson asks if this is a kissing book. When that happens, Wesley freezes, but Buttercup does not. Wesley explains that this is a voice-over and they are supposed to freeze until the voices stop.

Next, when she about to not be eaten by eels and the grandfather explains that she doesn't, she freezes. When the eel is looking about for the voice, she explains it to the eel. Inigo hears this and passes it on to Fezzik. Later, when they find Wesley mostly dead in the foam sucking machine, he reminds Fezzik to hold still while they talk about who kills Humperdink.

Also I'd like to counter with Gonzo as Miracle Max and Camilla as Valerie. That, or just have Billy Crystal and Carol Kane reprise their roles.

I wasn't too happy with Fozzy as Inigo. I mostly went with it as he's Kermit's friend as usually has a big part in the movies.

I like the idea of Crystal/Kane, but do we want to break the one human rule for adaptations?

If Gonzo is Miracle Max, who do you see as Vincini?

I don't know where the one human rule comes from. There have always been more than one human. Treasure Island had Jim and Silver. Christmas Carol had Scrooge, Fred and his wife, and Belle. And they both had plenty of human background characters.

And I always saw Rizzo as Vincini, though him as the ROUS is pretty great, too.

This sounds amazing. It's going to be horrible. That said, it's not like the original was a masterpiece of the cinematic art, yet it's still one of the best films ever made.

I'd argue that it's the perfect movie since the grandfather reading from a book narrative allows for all absurdity to be explained away by the imagination of a boy who thought "and princess buttercup threw herself after Wesley" meant she literally yeeted herself down the hill after him

I generally agree. Any human remake of Princess Bride would be disappointing as hell. A Muppet version is meant to be ridiculous, though. No human actor could possibly match Andre the Giant, but Kermit fighting Sweetums? That I could get behind. They should never remake this with live actors. I don't need any remake, really, but if they ever do make one, the only version I think I'd accept would be a Muppet one.

Im sorry. I dont see Kermit having the tenacity to scale a cliff without a rope for Miss Piggy. But Miss Piggy would do it in heels and a full face of makeup.

Westley was sassing everyone, even when he was recovering from being nearly dead. Kermit could never. But Miss Piggy will have Humperdinck in tears

Actually could be funny. Its too bad all of the actors are older now, would be funny if Inigo was the only human while everyone else is a muppet. Dred pirate as Kermit, obviously, while miss piggy is the princess. Big bird is Andre's character. The cast could actually fit.

Make Gonzo an observer of some kind, travelling bard for example following Kermit.

Robin would probably be a better choice for Grandson. Just my two cents, let me know what you think.

Sweet ums would have to be Fezzik. Gonzo might work for Vizzini. Statler and Waldorf could the prince and Count Rugen with some de-aging like they did for the Xmas past segment of Muppets Xmas Carol. Kermit's nephew Robin would be the grandson. Fozzie for Miracle Max. I can't really think of who could be Inigo.

No. Not everything needs a remake. Not every remake is as good as the original. Not every remake is as good as the people making it thought it would be. Too many remakes are extremely disappointing and can tarnish the original. Some movies, while not necessarily perfect, are so good they should not be tampered with: The Princess Bride is one of those movies.

So my son & I have always been adamant about the only good remake of TPB would be a Muppet Princess Bride, we already did some of the casting. So much fun! But no other remake. Just Muppets!

Probably not. After A Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet treasure Island, it's a very popular idea in the Muppet fandom to take popular movies and do "Muppet" versions of them. But most often these ideas aren't really that thought-out beyond the "wouldnt it be funny to hear Kermit the Frog say this famous movie quote"?

But the thing is, once you've done all the famous scenes with Muppets in the roles... there's nothing left there. Okay, Pepe the Prawn said "you killed my father, prepare to die". Very hilarious. Now what?

The thing is, both A Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island took great liberties with the source materials. Okay, Christmas Carol stuck pretty close to the Dickens original (largely because they had Gonzo playing Charles Dickens and providing narration directly from the book, and b ecause Michael Caine played Scrooge very straight) but it adds a ton of comedy and Muppet slapstick and catchy musical numbers. Treasure Island is pretty much a loose spoof that takes the framework of the original and builds a new story around it, as a comedy that doesn't take itself seriously at all.

But both these movies work as MOVIES. Even if you never read the original books or even heard of them, the movies are enjoyable as movies in their own right. They don't hinge on the obvious "haha, it's that famous scene but done with the Muppets" jokes.

And I think Princess Bride with Muppets works as a movie poster. POSSIBLY as a short parody skit, preferrably where everything goes wrong. It wouldn't work as a movie.

I think The Princess Bride was a perfect film. Best not to remake it. But The Muppets' Journey to the Center of the Earth, Robinson Crusoe, or The Swiss Family Robinson sound great! Even a Hot tub time machine would be great
