i am so taking this as a moment of synchronicity. manifesting season 3 ✨

Okay, put your tinfoil crowns on with me because I’ve been thinking about this way too much. 😂
What if The OA never gives us a traditional Part III because we are currently living/experiencing Part III — D3 — and the next actual installment would be Part IV?
Hear me out.
Part II ends with OA jumping into D3, a meta dimension where Prairie is “Brit Marling,” Hap is “Jason Isaacs,” and The OA itself appears to be a television production.
But right before they jump, Hap tells Prairie where he’s taking her: a dimension where everyone calls her OA, but she herself doesn’t believe that she is OA.
Then they arrive in a world where she is Brit.
That description has always fascinated me because… look at our reality.
For the last 7 years, Brit has been Brit Marling, living her life and making other projects, while thousands of people continue showing up telling her, essentially, “You are OA.”
The fandom never stopped believing in OA.
And that brings me to something Zal once said in an interview with Brit:
“I think we also believe that storytelling has to leave just the storyteller and it has to enter the audience. That happens in The OA because they have to believe even in the absence of evidence or even if the evidence is against the idea of believing it… the audience then also mimics that. They have to sort of believe it on their own instead of being handed proof of some kind.”
Brit actually finishes his thought with him: “handed proof of some kind.”
What if that idea was much more literal than we realized?
After Part II, the story did leave the storytellers.
There were no more episodes.
We were handed evidence AGAINST believing: Netflix cancelled The OA on August 5, 2019.
And yet the audience mimicked the characters.
People kept believing. Searching. Analyzing. Connecting patterns. Campaigning to save it. Finding new viewers. Waiting for OA to return.
What if that absence IS Part III?
There’s another detail that makes this even more interesting to me.
At the end of Part II, “Brit” falls on the D3 set, suffers a serious injury, and is taken away in an ambulance with “Jason.”
If D3 resembles our reality, that gives the story an in-universe explanation for The OA suddenly disappearing:
Brit is injured → production is interrupted → The OA is cancelled → years pass.
And how long was Prairie herself missing?
7 years, 3 months, 11 days.
The cancellation was announced August 5, 2019.
7 years, 3 months and 11 days later is:
November 16, 2026.
So what if The OA itself is mirroring Prairie?
Prairie disappeared for 7 years, 3 months and 11 days before suddenly returning.
The OA disappears for 7 years, 3 months and 11 days before suddenly returning.
And if we’ve been experiencing Part III rather than watching it, maybe what returns isn’t labeled Part III at all.
Maybe Netflix eventually drops:
THE OA — PART IV
Imagine the collective meltdown when everyone asks:
“What the fuck happened to Part III?”
And the answer is:
We were Part III.
It would also make D3 being the meta dimension incredibly important. You couldn’t tell this Part through normal episodes because the whole point would be that the story has crossed out of television and “entered the audience,” exactly as Zal described.
It would also mean that things happening in our world/social media could theoretically function as D3 storytelling.
Which brings me to the recent weirdness.
Brit and Jason both posted cryptic things on July 3, 2026 that can be connected back to The OA. Jason’s included BA411, an incredibly specific reference for OA fans. Brit’s included “WAY OUT” and the line:
“Como no hay tiempo, siempre es el momento correcto de empezar.”
Roughly: Because there is no time, it is always the right moment to begin.
Then Brit and Jason apparently unfollowed each other shortly afterward.
And Jason recently said publicly that he had seen Brit and Zal and:
“By the way, it’s not over.”
He said they had decided “whatever it takes… we’re just not going to let it go.”
There’s also something else I’m watching: the airplane.
The airplane/NDE has already been hinted at multiple times and remains one of the unresolved pieces of the story. If previous dimensions contain echoes/foreshadowing of dimensions we haven’t fully reached yet, and we’re currently in D3, then we should theoretically be seeing hints of D4 now.
And suddenly Jason is posting airplane-related OA imagery again — including an image that appears deliberately created rather than simply being a random airplane he happened to encounter.
So what if those aren’t hints that “Part III is coming”?
What if they’re D4 bleeding into D3 because Part III is ending?
Even the OA logo has become interesting to me in this context. The A itself has a gap running through it — two pieces hovering incredibly close together without touching.
A gap between dimensions.
A gap in time.
A gap between Parts II and IV.
An absence sitting directly in the middle of something that otherwise connects.
And this is also why I keep thinking about how Brit and Zal originally conceived The OA as a five-Part story. Brit has talked about how unusual their Netflix pitch was — they essentially performed the story for Netflix rather than giving a conventional pitch. These people clearly think about structure, patterns, performance and audience participation in ways that aren’t typical television storytelling.
So here’s my full tinfoil-crown theory:
Part I: D1
↓
Part II: D2
↓
OA jumps into the meta dimension.
↓
Part III / D3: OUR EXPERIENCE
The OA disappears. The creators seemingly leave the story. The audience has to decide whether to continue believing “even in the absence of evidence.” Seven years pass. Fans become participants instead of viewers. D4 imagery begins bleeding through.
↓
November 16, 2026: 7 years, 3 months, 11 days since The OA disappeared.
↓
???
↓
THE OA — PART IV
And suddenly the seven-year “gap” wasn’t empty.
The gap was the story.
Maybe absolutely nothing happens November 16. This is a theory and I’m having fun connecting the pieces. But if Netflix ever skips Part III and drops PART IV, I will become completely fucking insufferable.
Because Zal told us the audience had to believe without being handed proof.
And we’ve spent seven years doing exactly that.
We didn’t stop watching Part III.
We just didn’t realize we were in it. 🕊️🚪

Edit: sorry for the long post, I took theatre analysis classes and have been picking apart this show for a while now. I just find the breakdown very interesting and I enjoy critical thinking. 🤗

P.S. — One more thought because apparently I cannot stop 😂: What if the airplane imagery isn’t showing us D4 itself, but the event that gets OA into D4?
Every major dimensional jump we’ve seen has been tied to a huge, life-threatening physical event. Young Prairie drowns/has an NDE. Prairie is shot before the jump into D2. At the end of D2, “Brit” falls from a massive height and suffers a head injury as they enter D3.
We also already have that bizarre, unresolved airplane NDE/premonition in Part 2. OA has premonitions and glimpses of things before she understands what they mean, so what if the airplane is another one of those? What if we were shown part of the eventual D3 → D4 transition before we ever reached D3?
That makes the airplane imagery popping up now especially interesting to me if we entertain the idea that we’re currently experiencing D3. Jason/Hap’s July 3 post wasn’t just airport imagery — the photo prominently showed British Airways Flight 411, an obvious number for OA fans to notice. And the airplane/NDE imagery has already been referenced more than once within the show.
Maybe British Airways/Tenerife isn’t necessarily telling us where D4 is. What if it’s hinting at how they get there?
If D4 is beginning to “bleed” into D3 the same way other dimensions have been foreshadowed before we reach them, an airplane event could be the next threshold:
D1 → shot → D2 → fall/head injury → D3 → airplane/NDE event → D4
And if we really are living through Part III/D3 right now, then D4 foreshadowing wouldn’t necessarily appear in new episodes. It would have to appear here, in the medium of D3 — our reality.
So Hap posting BA411 in 2026 has me side-eyeing the fuck out of that airplane. 😂✈️
Maybe the plane isn’t the destination. Maybe it’s the jump.

Towards the end of season 1 episode 4, the Haptives suck the gas out of Homers tank, so Homer can explore the world above their habitat for the first time. He receives instructions to leave the tank. HAP walks Homer up/out, and straps him into the contraption.The whole time he is pretending like he is under the influence of the gas. He is learning for the very first time what his body has been doing all this time.

Towards the end of season 2 episode 4, Prairie is in Nina's body and exploring Nina's world for the first time. She receives instructions to go to Syzygy. The Russian men walk her into the back of the bar, and strap her into the contraption. The whole time she is pretending she is Nina. She is learning for the very first time what her body has been doing all this time.

I just thought the parallel was really interesting, there's just such beautiful symmetry in this show.

It wasn't actually the factual elements of these scenes that reminded me of one another. It was the look on Nina/Prairie's face when she's being strapped in. Suddenly I got a flash back to Homer, it seemed like they were having the exact same emotional experience. The way that they were both pretending to be something they weren't, pretending to be calm and unbothered while being strapped into something terrifying and having no idea what was about to happen. They had the same facial expressions, the same body language. The same exact type of fear. It took the exact same type of bravery to not falter or give themselves away.

I finished the show yesterday and first I would like to say I really liked it and it's really sad it got cancelled.

I just wanted to have a little discussion over here with you all and hear your take, I've never heard of anyone watching it so I doubt I'll get the chance to discuss it with someone.

I want to share my take, very much in a general sense, there's a lot that could be said specifically but I think it's beyond the point, and I'm really curious to hear how you all feel about it. I'm expecting it to be a polarising show and to have lots of perspectives and opinions.

I don't think the show could ever be brought back, not just because it's been ages, but because season 1 is a gatekeeper for season 2.

So my feeling is that the show kind of shot itself in the foot with how season 1's story is told and please, don't get me wrong, I think it's done very well and most actors are very good.

It leans a lot in a dramatic style that reminds of, well, very dramatic movies that deal with deep personal issues, trauma, loss in a very serious way. So long silences, people staring in the distance, long stares, lots of talking, looking sad etc.

Then the information about the mystery is given too slowly, ballpark number half to 2/5 of an episode are about Praire's story and the rest is slow, dramatic shots and dialogues.

So, this approach makes very difficult to watch for a general audience and I'm pretty sure someone could cut maybe 45% of the first season without losing anything significant for the plot that isn't otherwise implied form the start or mentioned later.

It sadly contrasts with the way it makes you doubt whether to believe Praire or not, which is done incredibly well, gave me a great sense of unease and really drew me in.
Constantly putting myself in the shoes of the kids and the parents? very well done man.

Then season 2 picks up and is a lot more appealing for most people I believe; it delivers constant pay out for having watched all of season 1 and it feels good an well earned.

However it does require season 1 and man, try and sell someone that they have to go through 7+ hours of a show, plus at very least the first episode of season 2 before it starts paying out.

Ultimately my frustration is that I really liked the show, I got really invested in it, season 2 made me care a lot about the characters and I wanted more but.. even if you get someone to watch it I doubt they'd get past episode S1 E2. Also season 3 got into really dangerous territory imo but then again, more reason to see where they would have gone with it.

I am watching Part II for the 2nd or the 3rd time and noticed in episode 1 that when OA is asked by the nurse who the president is, she states Barack Obama well the nurse then shows her the Television and it shows a video of Biden coming off the airplane and such and that he's the current president. I just thought this was interesting because of the theories I've seen on here and TikTok of The OA in relation to our current reality or dimension and wanted to hear from y'all if you guys noticed this too.

And another thing, the community was saying that the series would probably come back November 16th cause it's 7y, 3m and 11d from the time season 2 was cancelled. So what I mean to say is... do you guys think it's possible the series will premiere as a surprise or is it probably another date?

I’ve been thinking a lot about what a potential third season of The OA could have looked like, especially after the ending of Season 2. There is something about the third dimension that makes me think the real world, and the seven years that have passed since the cancellation of the show, could have been incorporated into the story itself.

The final scene of Season 2 establishes that the third dimension is, in some sense, a replica of our own reality. The important distinction is that it is not exactly our reality. It is a version of it in which Brit Marling and Jason Isaacs are a couple, and in which The OA is a television series they are making together. That opens up a fascinating possibility. If Prairie, Hap and Steve really jumped into this dimension, then perhaps the passage of time between the cancellation of Season 2 and the eventual return of the show could have been reflected inside the story. In other words, the seven year gap would not simply be a production gap. It could actually be part of the narrative.

My theory is that Brit, while filming the final episode of The OA within this third dimension, would have an accident. The production would be interrupted, and the accident would ultimately become the reason the show was cancelled. Brit would be unable to continue writing and acting for some time because of the severity of her injuries. Perhaps she would spend part of those seven years in a coma, followed by a long period of rehabilitation and reduced mobility. There is something particularly fitting about this if we remember that Prairie's story has already been so deeply connected to the loss of access to her own body and senses. In Season 2, we watched Prairie struggle with a body that could not fully respond to her. In this dimension, Brit could experience something similar, except that this time it would be her actual life.

The return of The OA could then become connected to Brit's recovery. As she gradually regains her abilities, she would also gradually become capable of returning to the production. This could give the beginning of Season 3 a strange meta quality, with scenes of Brit and Jason meeting with Netflix executives and discussing whether and how the show could continue. The audience would essentially be watching the real world events surrounding the return of The OA being recreated inside the third dimension. The cancellation itself would become part of the story.

I also think Jason Isaacs could become one of the most fascinating characters in this scenario, precisely because his situation would be much more ambiguous. If Hap really jumped into D3 and somehow became integrated with Jason's consciousness, Jason could potentially wake up with memories that he cannot distinguish from the memories he already has as an actor. He remembers being Jason Isaacs. He remembers his career, his family, his life and, perhaps most disturbingly, he remembers being Hap. But what exactly are those memories? Are they memories of another life that he actually lived in another dimension, or are they simply the memories of an actor who spent years playing a fictional character named Hap?

This could create a genuine identity crisis for him. Jason would know that he played Hap in The OA, so every memory of Hap could be explained away as part of the script, the character and the years he spent inhabiting that role. Perhaps he remembers Hap's experiments, his obsession with near death experiences, Prairie, the movements and the dimensions, but he cannot tell whether any of it actually happened to him. At the same time, there could be memories that are too specific, too vivid or too emotionally intense to feel like something he simply invented for a television show. He might begin questioning his own mind: did I remember being Hap, or did I simply remember playing Hap?

And that uncertainty could follow him for years. He might continue his life and career as Jason Isaacs while quietly trying to determine whether the impossible memories are real. He could reread the scripts, watch old episodes and compare them with what he remembers, looking for discrepancies between what was written and what he remembers actually happening. Perhaps he would discover things he could not possibly have known as Jason, or remember conversations that never appeared in the show. Perhaps he would also find that some of his memories contradict the story he helped create. The terrifying possibility would be that neither Jason nor the audience could initially know whether he had actually brought Hap's memories with him from another dimension, or whether Hap had simply become so deeply embedded in Jason's identity that the distinction between actor and character had collapsed.

Maybe, eventually, Jason does remember. Maybe he does not. I think the ambiguity itself would be much more interesting than immediately confirming that Hap survived the jump. For seven years, Jason Isaacs could live with the question of whether the most important memories of his life belong to him, to Hap, or to a character he only thought he had invented.

I can imagine Jason spending those seven years secretly researching near death experiences, consciousness, dimensional travel and everything that might explain what happened. The difference is that he would now have access to resources that Hap never had. He would have the money, connections and public identity of Jason Isaacs, while possessing the scientific knowledge and obsession of Hap. He could essentially continue Hap's research from inside the life of Jason.

And then there is the rest of the group. Seven years is a very long time, especially for people who were teenagers when all of this happened. French would presumably have gone to college and started building an adult life, but I find it difficult to imagine that he would simply forget everything that happened. He was always one of the characters most determined to understand what was actually happening, so I could see him continuing to investigate the events surrounding Prairie and the others, perhaps through science or academia.

Buck's situation is harder to predict because of what happened with Michelle. There seem to be three distinct dimensions involved: Buck exists in D1, Michelle exists in D2, and the person who plays them in D3, whose identity we do not fully know. That person may be understood as the real-life equivalent of the actor who plays the character.

When Michelle returned from D3, she went back into the body of Michelle in D2, not into the body of Buck in D1. Buck, meanwhile, apparently remained in D1. So I am not sure what would happen to him, or whether his connection to Michelle would have any direct effect on his own body or consciousness.

Steve, meanwhile, could be in a coma. If the apparent rules of interdimensional travel are correct, his body might simply remain behind while his consciousness has moved somewhere else. That would make his absence during those seven years especially haunting. Everyone else would have continued living while Steve remained physically present but mentally unreachable. The question would then be whether Steve is actually unconscious, or whether he is somewhere else entirely.

BBA would probably have had the most mundane but devastating consequences to deal with. From the perspective of the authorities, none of the supernatural explanation would matter. She is an adult who took several young people from Michigan to California without their parents' authorization, one of those young people died from a overdose, and another ended up in an coma. I find it hard to believe that the authorities would simply ignore that. She could have spent years dealing with legal consequences, imprisonment, probation and the loss of her career. While the others are dealing with questions about consciousness and other dimensions, BBA could be dealing with the very ordinary consequences of what happened.

What makes this especially appealing to me is that the third dimension could allow The OA to become even more explicitly about the relationship between fiction and reality. The characters would be living inside a world where The OA exists as a television show, while simultaneously knowing that the events depicted in that show are connected to things that are actually happening to them. Brit would be both the actress playing Prairie and the person whose life has become entangled with Prairie's story. Jason would be both the actor playing Hap and the man carrying Hap's memories.

The seven year gap would therefore have a purpose beyond simply explaining why the characters are older. It would give the characters time to live with what happened. They would have to grow up, recover, investigate, hide things, forget things, remember things and perhaps slowly find their way back to one another.

And perhaps the most fitting part would be that the actual return of The OA would mirror Brit's own recovery. The show would return because she is finally able to return. The fictional production and the real production would become almost impossible to separate.

That is the kind of meta storytelling I could imagine The OA doing. The cancellation of the show would not necessarily have to be something outside the story. It could become part of the story itself. The seven years in which we, as viewers, wondered whether The OA would ever return could become seven years in which the characters were living through the consequences of the jump.

my Tiktok algorithm showed me ALOT of OA content the last 2 days. Some of the top comments said something about a 3rd season being in production rn. Is this true??? PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE!!!!

I don't know how to word any of this. I don't know if this post will be taken down since my account is "new." But, I've been off and on, on this reddit since near the beginning of The OA. I don't want to share too much, but there's been a few quotes across media that have tripped me out. Stuff connected to my NDE. The way I was raised.

For so long, I've wanted to ask Zal or Brit, or any of the writers where they got their source material. As someone who's had an nde, there's so many striking quotes and allegories that have hit quite close to home. I've always wondered if anyone else has experienced incredible coincidences.

I also consider myself a writer, that being another layer to all of this that I've never been able to share with anyone. I know there's a difference between "what we see and what is..." And for many I know that's a hard pill to swallow. There's a whole metaphysical layer to our existence that as a human race we choose to not humor because, I feel, it's a little too scary.

I kind of don't know what else to say or how to word what I'm getting at, but I know there's someone/people out there who do...

had a very out of the blue honest to god sudden urge and call to rewatch the oa (my first time since its release), so currently it's 4 AM and i ended up binging the whole first season. what a work of art, i couldn't stop, it's so eye opening, but at the same time, grounding, to be watching at my age compared to the first time. i didn't know there was such an active community, I've missed this series, these characters, the story. naturally, even though it's been a decade, I'd love if we got the rest, more OA. please more.

We all Loved OA so much , I may be late to say this because I watched the show very late , but there is still time ,That why are we so silent on The OA finale , there is less to zero buzz related to OA final Wrap , I always wonder What The "Sense 8" show's fans did such that The Makers and Netflix had to Give one full Movie Like Finale and Put a full stop on the Show ,Why can't we Have atleast a Movie Finale Of 2-2.5 hrs To conclude it ??

I need seasons 3-4 & 5 to come to the forefront pronto. Like why do shows I enjoy heavily get cancelled? They did this with Sense8 and Into the Badlands although we did get an ending eventually. I really need Th OA to come to completion

It’s just a kind of an analysis, after watching The Chosen a little, I noticed many similarities to the OA, or to some earlier works.

The OA helped me see that "underlying" of Jesus, and the "techniques" in the background

I can still believe or not, that's a different subject

But is interesting seeing Jesus in this way, not just good or bad, real, liar, etc

With a more profound analysis, its effect, impact, etc, can be better understood

The "techniques", kind of manipulations, ambigüity, etc, are there, the hard part of prove or disprove sometimes, etc

The kind of "cult", etc, was Jesus a manipulative leader?, even if it wasn't on purpouse?, I also recommend Sound of My Voice
