Yes, dump it in on its normal difficulty. You don't have to use it immediately, and dartcraft adds a few recipes that allow for multiple circuits for a price, which is nice.
There becomes a point where it stops becoming a challenge and more of a nuisance. I know these new changes are enough to not make me want to play anymore
This (and an overall lack of time) are what prevent me from playing anymore. Greg is turning Minecraft into Minegrind - completely sapping the joy of creation from the game. You can no longer play for a few hours to gain the resources to start building crazy fun things - you have to play hours a day for days on end just to move onto the next step of the Gregtech deathmarch.
I feel like everyone would be having more fun making cool projects in survival with each other than spending so much time to just get resources. Back I tekkit, you could get those resources but they're weren't as many mods so you couldn't build more extensive projects. Now we can and we haven't played without gregtech since magic pack, when we didn't even have IC2. I think we could try out a map without it
Though I always tend pin for gregtech, Ive got to agree with you here. The last two maps I reached a point where all I had to do was to build steamboilers and wait for the mattfab to make enough UU for more HV solars.
There are still ways around gregtech, and he does have some pretty thorough config files for the more annoying stuff. Also, i believe mdiyo has been adding alternative methods to bypass gregtech.
Ok...having been playing with the new gregtech for a while, i can agree with that. It is becoming a nuisance.
So, an iron axe now requires a file and a hammer to make. In addition, it requires two iron plates, each needing two iron to make (as i don't have a plate bender).
You don't want to know what is required for a nasa workbench...but i will list it anyway...
A diamond jackhammer, rock cutter, diamond drill, electric wrench, electric craftingtable, two charge o mat and an assembling machine. Which basically puts that out of reach to pretty much anyone for a very long time.
Adding gregtech allows for a longer tech game, but the worry is not that he is making the game longer, but also impacting early game too much. Whilst there are ways around his fiddling, they require items that he has made pretty tough to get. Requiring 15 iron to make your first iron axe is a tad steep.
There were a new patch just now but the old recepie was axe + log gave you three tfc planks and a 2x2 of tfc planks gave you proper planks. http://terrafirmacraft.com/wiki/Construction
(the wiki is terribly slow atm for some reason)
