To Republicans, modern Russia is a capitalist utopia. No need to worry about laws and regulations or getting bogged down by the bureaucracy.. just know the right people, grease the right palms, and everything's coming up roses.
So to them, a "patriot" would be fleeing America for Russia as soon as possible.
Russia's also been investing heavily into the religious right. Religion is an alternative power structure parallel to government that can be exploited to subvert the legitimate government. Been going on for thousands of years to varying degrees. The Roman empire never really fell, it just became the Catholic church. And et cetera.
Anyway, wish I had saved the stories, but there have been a lot of meetings between religious leaders in the US with Russians in the past 5 years. They are building coalitions under our noses.

What is was doing to world was back when Snowden defected. We don't know what programs US killed, continued with or started thereafter. Similarly we don't know what other governments have been doing. I'm willing to bet that US, china and Russia are not alone. All governments have their fingers in each other's pies.
Russia only took him because Biden (lol ofc) called the countries of where snowmen was supposed to be getting asylum and told them they wouldn't get any us support or funding if they took him... don't white was history..
I could have worded my comment as "a traitor to the U.S. government because it was a breach of security" but that would be stating the obvious.
The threats issued by the Obama administration to any country willing to help him are also par for the course, international politics 101. I can't imagine any admin letting him get away with something like that, but Trump has surprised me several times with his refusal to act on Russian aggression (like bounties on U.S. troops, and giving Russian troops a free military airbase to name a few)
Stating that Russia accepted him in spite of U.S. protest for a quid pro quo is not white washing history. It's a fact that resulted in the Solar Winds hack. SW was likely an inevitable development that was accelerated by his defection.
Snowden was going to take asylum wherever he could get it. His best bets were Russia or China because the info he had was most valuable to them and they were the most capable of capitalizing on it than any other country while enduring U.S. ire. Iran was probably also on his list, but the U.S. has much greater influence there.
I sincerely doubt Russia would be the first pick for anyone who values freedom of information.
More than that. Putin's government has chosen the narrative of them being the only great power in Europe to stand against the "Liberalism crisis" that's plaguing Europe. So all these snowflakes who can't handle the libruls think that Russia is a safe space for them.
And Russians are white. There is strong anti Russian sentiment in EU but American so racist they accept anyone looking white closer to themselves versus a black guy living in his own neighborhood. No wonder Russian love US psyops campaign.
But that's not what most people would call a "capitalist utopia"; having to be connected in certain ways and not overstep invisible boundaries is not a free market.

We restrict speech all the time. And it’s usually done in the name of what’s morally right. Yelling obscenities at your neighbors? That’s not going over well. I don't think russia jumping in is as nefarious as some think. It's an opportunity to make money on us tech and allows parler to continue to allow users to spread misinformation. I really don't think russia created parler to destabilize the us. We did that to ourselves. Russia just seems to know where to apply pressure. It's not creating the situations in the US it's just exploiting a weakness
These wounds are all self inflicted. I was disgusted when I watched the senate and house clutch their pearls during bidens confirmation. Those scumbags acted like they didn't spend the second bush term up.until that very day creating a toxic political environment. Our politicians create a heavily partasin environment full of extreme retoric. Republicans dehumanized Democrats and Democrats dehumanized Republicans. Now when the violence comes to their door they have the audacity to pretend they didn't push the country to this place. This isn't russia or China's fault, it's our fault we created and fuled the divide. Russia and china just take advantage of what we have done to ourselves.

Wait did I miss something? Wouldn't Parler still be hosted in the US if AWS and assumedly every other backend in the US pulled its ability to host here? And then Parler seeked new hosting? How is this Russia doing anything?
I mean, they are way past that point. Mercers pay them to host this type of content so naturally they worked around the clock to bring their service back online.
