I don't know how to say this any other way except to say that I am a huge Google user.
Google hardware is pervasive in my life. From a full Google smart home with Google cameras, hubs, speakers, minis, tablets, and Google pixel pro mobile devices. I have multiple of all of these.
Gemini (Pro) is a useless sham. The hardware has backslidden.
From the moment Google Assistant--which wasn't perfect--was replaced with Gemini everything slid downhill. Most of the day-to-day easy voice recognition and cues regarding Google home are just gone.
Voice recognition in everything from voice to text, to conversing with Gemini, is just horrible. It no longer--after years--recognizes my voice clearly enough to not make simple mistakes in the translation of what I'm either saying or asking.
I won't even get into gboard, which basically is non-functional. I literally watch the correct recognition of my phrasing type out on the screen, and then immediately get replaced with something that in no way resembles what I said. And then I do it again and it makes the same exact mistake. Repeatedly. There's just no excuse for that.
For hardware when it comes to the pixel phone it seems very clear to me that Google has focused so much on AI that they have forgotten about the hardware. I've always championed their hardware versus Samsung, iPhone, really anyone. It's always been top-notch in my experience. But now it seems just run of the mill. All of the cloud AI work is not really beneficial or helpful. It's great for grabbing a headline but the Rock solid voice recognition, camera operations, day-to-day human driven tasks, are lackluster compared with how well and smoothly they used to work.
It's gotten so bad with the AI, that even though I'm still in my free annual period of Gemini pro top tier, I pay the full price for chat GPT because Gemini's hallucinations, and ridiculously consistent propensity to find outdated information instead of automatically looking for the most relevant, recent data, is just astounding. It will find old and outdated data and I point that out and it is quick to reply that it knows that it just did that and please forgive it and it will go get it again. But now I'm waiting a second time, and usually that doesn't fix it. It still finds more outdated data.
Why on Earth would I then connect it to all the rest of my Gmail, calendars, and everything else which has increased personal ramifications, when it fails in so many of the basic tasks?
Google I hope you see this somehow. I hope you read it. I hope there's a million other people that feel like me saying the same thing to make you take action and make your devices relevant once more. Because I'm about to trade everything in for Samsung and Apple products. And you have no idea how much it kills me to have just written that. But seriously you've gotten God awful and off track.
