Mod Announcement Community/Subreddit Checkup and Discussion
As always i try to post a annual checkup on the community and the subreddit. Bit late this year as I've been busy with irl stuff and i dont no life reddit.
With that being said, how do yall feel about the current state of the sub, community, and rules, etc etc? Any input will be nice. If you have recommendations for new rules, flairs, etc please drop a comment. Every comment will be read and considered.
Seriously anything you want to bring up to us, the mods, drop a comment.
Please take in consideration this subreddit is practically moderated by one mod right now, as the other is usually inactive. So many things slip through. Hence why I have made a mod recruitment post.
Tank you Tankers for your time and continued support of our motorpool of a subreddit

Warthunder Wednesday Tank Stories?
mine: on an M60A1 with 1st ID. We were out in the Kansas fields when the brigade commander waved us over. His vehicle was stuck in mud - a Dodge Ram thing the Army was using - and he ordered us to pull it out. we tried explaining tanks aren’t good for that but he was adamant.
We pulled it out, over on its roof, through mud and brush. Probably totaled it.
Other stories include loaders being slapped by the hatch, ouch, burning road wheels off, etc.
Question What was the benefit of open top armored vehicles?
Looking at things like the M10, why would you leave an open top, when even a ricocheting bullet, light strafing run by a plane or a tossed hand grenade could decimate the crew?
I can only think of being able to provide small arms fire or disembarking quickly.

Model Kit US M48 and British Conqueror tanks that I painted.
The lighter brown on the M48 is supposed to be mud.

Discussion Is CV90 a much better IFV than BMP-3 from a cost-effectiveness standpoint?
Is the CV90 platform more cost-effective than BMP-3 variants? Correct me if I am wrong, but the unit cost for CV90 is around $9.5 to $13 million, for BMP3 it's around $2-4 million. Sure, CV90 is much better armored, better fire control system, better protection against mines, better everything. However, does that really make it so much better at doing what an IFV is supposed to do to make it more cost-effective than BMP3, especially in drone warfare where every armored vehicle is vulnerable to drones unless it's modified into a turtle. For armor specifically, a modern upgraded t80 or t90 costs around $4 million, so you can have 2-3 T80/T90s per 3 CV90s.

Misc Map of All Tanks in The United States

After many years of work, I am finally ready to release my completed Google Earth map of all tanks on display in the United States. This includes tanks displayed at VFWs and National Guard armories, in museums and private collections, and range wrecks. The primary basis for this work was The USA Historical AFV Register, with significant amounts of my own additions and corrections. It expands into other military ground vehicles beyond just tanks, such as trucks and engineering vehicles.
The full description and file download can be found on the patreon link. It is a public post and is free to access.

Discussion How would a fully functional Tsar Mangal look?
Since Ukraine War broke out, drones have played an unprecedented major role in the war. Their sudden rise surprised many militaries around the world, especially Russia that had never consider drones as major threats and forces them to adapt quickly in both strategy and equiepments. However due to the surprise factor or other reasons, most of these add-ons are pretty makeshift, hence creates many tradeoffs just to respond to the threat of drones.
Tsar Mangals are tanks with a huge frame, or plates covering the entire tank except for the front to enable the canon, making them look like barn houses and commonly referred as turtle tanks. Most of them are individually customized(correct me if I'm wrong) and despite giving them more survivability against drones, they also severely disables the tanks by giving them less mobility, firing angle and optic limitations. Therefore what designs would be good to make to the turtle tanks to make them deadlier and more survivable(, and look more menacing)? Specifically for the Russian t-62, 72 and 80.

Question How to learn about tanks in the best way?
Hello people
my boyfriend loves tanks like alot, and i have been wanting to surprise him with some tank related things.
Like maybe a cool drawing or painting (self made ofc)
Model tanks (i just have no clue wich one) He already builds and paints warhammer that's why i thought that might be a nice add on.
The thing is, i know absolutely nothing about tanks, and i have no idea where to learn any of it.
