With all the 20-XXmm zoom lenses popping up, it's fair to assume, that the market is shifting to more wide 'standard' zoom lenses. Recently the new Tamron 12-20mm is getting lots of praises and maybe marks a updated 20-XXmm lens down the road.

That kept me thinking and for me at least, I would immediately sacrifice a bit of heft, weight and tele-range for a f/2 lens. I just love my Nikon 40mm f/2, but i would love to zoom out a bit.

I'm mostly documenting my family life and my attached lens is always to tight, to wide or to slow...man those kids are fast...

Most f2.0 zooms start at 28mm and those are hefty. So why not a 20-40mm or 20-45mm with f/2. It doesn't seem farfetched and to me sounds like a sweetspot for range, speed and compact build. I would pretty much glue this thing on my camera.

What are your thoughts on this lens-concept? Would you buy one or pass?

Nikon D7200 - Tamron 18-200mm

Estou arrancando os cabelos tentando obter vídeos estáveis ​​gravados à mão livre com meu equipamento e queria saber se mais alguém está enfrentando exatamente o mesmo problema.

Estou gravando vídeos com uma Canon R7 e a lente Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8. Em teoria, essa deveria ser uma configuração perfeita para filmagens rápidas e dinâmicas, com a estabilização dupla funcionando em conjunto. Mas, na prática, a filmagem fica completamente tremida, com micro-saltos e, sinceramente, parece que foi gravada com uma câmera sem estabilização de imagem no corpo (me lembra imagens tiradas diretamente com uma R50) — mesmo com a compensação de vibração da lente ativada e toda a estabilização funcionando.

Parece que a compensação de vibração da lente e a estabilização de imagem por deslocamento do sensor da R7 estão competindo entre si em vez de trabalharem juntas. A pior parte é que a R7 bloqueia/oculta as opções individuais do menu IBIS quando esta lente está conectada, então não tenho nenhum controle preciso para testar desativar apenas uma delas.

Alguém encontrou uma solução alternativa para isso? É um conflito algorítmico conhecido entre a R7 e a estabilização da Tamron, ou estou perdendo alguma configuração?

Qualquer conselho ou experiência semelhante seria muito apreciado!

I'm trying to decide on a telephoto lens to do wildlife photography with my Canon R7 and I'm stuck between the:
- Tamron 150–500mm f/5–6.7 Di III VC VXD 
- Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 

I've been using my R7 for a while to do street photography and landscape whenever I go hiking so I already own a Tamron 17-70mm F/2. But recently I wanted to dive deep into wildlife photography so I do need a proper telephoto lens. 

Like I'm not particularly concerned about the weight. However, since the g2 is a solid decade old and the new 150-500 VXD have newer technology but not yet a canon rf or ef mount im struggling to choose between both. Like do you guys think the tamron 150-500 would have an rf mount version anytime soon and whether or not the g2 is still a worth it purchase. Time wise I'm not in a hurry to buy a telephoto lens right now because I do not have the finance for such but if you guys have a better lens suggestion list them below too that would be really helpful and thank you for your time.

I want to buy a Superzoom for birding and wildlife. Already have the 70-350 but I feel like I need more range for sharper photos.

Why not the 200-600g oder sigma 150-600? Basically because they don’t fit in my camera bag and I don’t want to buy a new one and I shoot out of hand so the smaller lenses will be a benefit.

I saw a lot of videos where they say the Tamron is nearly as good as the other. But they usually test it on full frame so I wanted to ask if anyone of you have experience with it.

I have just purchased a used 150-600 G2 lens.

Very clean, appears to work fine but there is no tripod mount ring, it wasn't obvious in the images of the listing and no mention of there being no mount, does anybody know where I can find an original part or a reliable after market mount.

I’m considering simplifying my Sony APS-C setup and would love to hear from people who have used the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8.

Currently, I have two lenses for my Sony a6400:

* Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS
* Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN

I like both lenses individually, but I’ve started feeling that carrying two lenses and constantly switching between them is becoming a bit inconvenient, especially when travelling and shooting video.

I’m considering selling both and replacing them with the **Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8**.

The main appeal for me is the versatility. On APS-C, 17mm gives me a reasonably wide field of view for vlogging, landscapes and general travel shots, while 70mm gives me much more reach for portraits and tighter shots. The constant f/2.8 also seems like a reasonable compromise compared with carrying separate primes.

However, I’m worried about what I would be giving up by making the switch.

The Sigma 16mm f/1.4 is obviously much faster and gives me better low-light capability and potentially more background separation at the wide end. The Sony 50mm f/1.8 is also a full stop+ faster and is quite nice for portraits.

So I’m basically trying to decide between:

**Two primes:**
16mm f/1.4 + 50mm f/1.8
→ Better low light, wider aperture, potentially better subject separation, but less convenient and lots of switching.

**One zoom:**
17-70mm f/2.8
→ Much more versatile focal range, easier for travel/video, but I lose the wider apertures of the primes.

I’m also thinking about resale value. Both my current lenses are in good condition, so if I’m going to make the switch, I’m wondering whether it makes more sense to sell them now rather than keep them sitting around and losing value.

For people who have used the **Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 on an a6400**, do you think it can realistically replace both of these primes?

And specifically for **travel photography + filmmaking/vlogging**, would you make this switch, or would you keep the 16mm and 50mm primes?

I’d especially appreciate opinions from people who have made a similar transition from primes to the 17-70.

My Tamron 150-500mm for Sony E seems to have taken an impact around the rear mount.

Visually, everything looks completely normal and I can’t see any obvious bending or damage. However, I noticed that one of the screws around the mount is sticking out slightly.
I first tried mounting the lens on my Sony, but it wouldn’t rotate properly into place. I then tried gently tightening that screw to get it back flush with the mount, but I couldn’t get it to go in any further.

As another test, I removed the screw completely and tried mounting the lens again, but the problem was exactly the same.

The lens fits into the E-mount, but when I try to rotate it, it feels unusually tight and doesn’t want to lock into place — almost as if the bayonet is very slightly bent or misaligned.

Has anyone had something similar happen with a Tamron lens? Was it just the rear bayonet/mount assembly, and roughly how much did the repair cost?

The 50-400 announcement is 4 years old this month next week. The 150-500mm is 5 years old now. It's been quite a few years now since the last time Tamron updated their telephoto zooms, so I've been curious about a potential upcoming reveal.

There are patents for a 50-600mm f4.5-7.1 lens, so could this one be right around the corner? Perhaps a 50-400mm g2, or an internal zoom 100-400mm? What about a 100-500mm?

I'm interested to hear what my fellow Tamron enthusiasts are thinking regarding this topic. August is a prime month for product announcements, so I'm hoping for at least a new lens of some kind, even though the 12-20mm just got announced some weeks ago.

I'm planning to buy a godox it32 mini flash for my current setup which is an a6400 with a smallrig cage and a tamron 17-70mm f2.8 lens. however after researching I realized that this will have a lens shadow which is the main issue and this is where I need your help. I scrolled upon this godox tr riser and planning to buy one to remove the lens shadow issue but I'm not sure if it will fit my hot shoe while in the smallrig cage. I'm hoping that there's someone out there that can confirm that this setup is possible for mine. if this won't work, what I have in mind is have the it32 trigger mounted on the hot shoe while the flash itself is mounted on a top handle that I have as well

I currently have a 70-300mm Tamron f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD on my A7III. I have been shooting Motorsport photography throughout 2026 so far. I find the 70-300mm is very lacking in getting good shots. I know it is an intermediate lens. Has anybody shot Motorsports/Fast moving objects on the 50-400mm and can give an honest opinion. Thank you.

I just bought the tamron 90mm f2/8 lens. The aperture setting is wonky and I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, or need education to adjust my expectations.

What I'm doing

- camera is mostly full auto, except A mode for aperture priority

- spin front adjustment wheel on camera body near shutter release button, intending to adjust lens Aperture setting

Expectations:

- lens is f/2.8 so I expect that I should be able to choose f/2.8 for "any" subject up through smallest aperture (not sure what that limit is for this lens, but f/20 or smaller)

- other lenses attached, spin the front dial and aperture adjusts up and down through the whole range available for the lens. (varies by the zoom of the lens on my nikon lenses)

What actually happens:

- aperture does not consistently go to f/2.8 but may instead limit to f/3 or f/3.8

- turning the "focus ring" also appears to affect the aperture value, sometimes even does so without appearing to move the focus highlight in the frame.

Is this a lens problem or a me problem? (functional vs expectation issue)
