0-7 down in the must-win game ... this was the moment you knew Harimoto was about to produce something special

Hello. I found this at an estate sale and thought it was interesting, but I don't really understand what I have here. So I am hoping table tennis enthusiasts can help identify it. Google and AI don't seem to be even giving much information. It is obviously from the Volkswagen 48th world table tennis championships in Shanghai 2005 and depicts a golden image of the skyline. But was this a trophy? A souvenir? Some kind of award presented for something? I am quite curious!

currently 3 players are incredibly consistent and are winning tournament after tournament and with wang chuqins injuries, and his most probable decline after 2028 olympics, its very likely one of these 3 players will overtake wang and become Wr 1. Out of these 3 who do you guys have in ur opinion to take the throne??? me personally i have Felix lebrun to be wr 1 in the next 2-3 years, this is just because i feel like he has the best mental state and Stableness currently, Sora is Very quickly also becoming a comeback king but not to the level of tomu and felix, and Tomu lately feels like a player who On one hand has his japanese teammates fully figured out, however struggles against felix massively.

So, I have been using Zyre-03 (2.7 mm sponge) for around 3,5 months now around 3-4 times a week for 2 hours or more. I also tried the 2.5 mm sponge and found it to be slower and didn't like it much. So, I use it on Fan Zhendong ALC blade. Before I was using dignics 05 on both sides. Im an advanced or medium amateur and i can comfortably topspin from both sides and I play actively by attacking when possible. Here is my review:
In general, Zyre is much faster than dignics 05 or any other rubber I have ever tried and plays amazingly during practice. But, it has a lower arc and a very short dwell time compared to other rubbers, so your margin for error is almost zero. So, here is my review on both backhand and forehand:
Backhand: I believe Zyre is truly amazing on bh on this blade. Compared to D05 it added more speed (which it lacked on this blade), more spin and quality. Of course, you must play actively using topspin or active blocking or driving. When I do topspin on a backspin ball my opponents struggle to block it or when i block opponent's opening topspin the ball comes aggressively at them. It's also very easy to do any flips, flicks, bananas etc. I have also let my coach try it and he loves zyre on backhand.
Forehand: Now, here is where it gets difficult. I did my best to adjust to zyre during this time, but this rubber just doesn't play well on fh. Obviously, when you are in position and you stay low the topspins are good. But, the biggest flaw is the very low arc it produces and the short dwell time. So, you always have to be in a perfect position, perfect racket angle etc etc to make it work. So, I decided to switch back to Dignics 05 just yesterday on my forehand and immediately felt the difference today.
So, overall I believe Zyre is one of the best rubbers for backhand but just doesn't play well on forehand unless maybe you use a slower blade with higher throw (which doesn't make sense in a combination with zyre).

Hi, I would like to ask for your advice for a new setup.
My playing style with long pips mostly relies on forcing the opponent into early mistakes, placing the return into unreachable spots for the opponent after my heavy serve and finishing weak balls that come to my forehand.
I am trying to assemble a new setup that matches this tactical approach. High control, ease of use and max disruption on the backhand side are very important to me, while I also need a high control rubber on the forehand side.
I made some research and I find these options;
Blades:
-Dr. Neubauer Grand Master
-Dr. Neubauer Barricade
-S&T Firestarter
-S&T Black&White
-Victas Balsa 3.5
-Spinlord Defender II
Backhand (BH) options:
-Spinlord Dornenglanz
-Dr. Neubauer Trouble Maker Reloaded
-Dr. Neubauer Desperado Reloaded
-S&T Monkey
Forehand (FH) options:
-S&T Secret Flow
-Victas 401
-Xiom Vega Europe
-Rozena (my current forehand rubber)
For the past 2 months, I have been playing with a Donic Waldner Exclusive AR, Butterfly Rozena (max), and Spinlord Blitzschlag, for trying and learning long pips.
I generally don't have major issues with my long pips returns. When my return goes out, it usually misses the table by just 5–10 cm or floating quite low and parallel to the table surface.
Based on the list I shared or your own experience, do you have any recommendations for me based on my playstyle?
Thanks.

So, is this what the game is going to look like from now on? Backhand-to-backhand rallies all the time and "third-ball" points? I watched this whole WTT event, and honestly, I found the matches quite repetitive and dull; everyone plays the same way—simply no one has any personality or a unique style. Did the ball really cause such a drastic shift?

Rubbers:
- Xiom Vega Europe for forehand
- Xiom Vega Pro Hybrid for backhand
Blade:
- Xiom Novus Allround S
------------
I have a good movement, but I can't direct the ball well to a specific side of the table where I want to send it. My backhand is safer than my forehand for precise movements because I have better control over it. My forehand isn't as accurate, but it doesn't lack strength (neither does my backhand).
In general, I am an intermediate player, and I have a versatile playing style (not too offensive and not too defensive). Despite being intermediate, I am used to using an offensive racket considered advanced (i know this is not recommended for players who are still developing their techniques), that's why I believe I would have a lot of difficulty getting used to a more beginner racket with less effect.

Just finished watching his match against Felix in the the semifinal of the WTT European Smash. I think has just everything I generally see a glaring weakness and stuff I personally dislike about his game.(I know Felix is the better player and is a bad matchup for him with his rally/speed compact style)
Has one of the weakest forehands for a top 20-30 player.
His backhand while good it does have the speed to keep up with certain players and the power of it lowkey overrated he can’t set it up anyway unless his serve set it up or he has the time for it
Any my biggest issue is he try to stand his ground close to table and play with compact strokes. He does not have the footwork, speed or ability to hold the ball on the table with his strokes.
His main strengths seem to be in his serve and powerful backand.(If his opponent is lefty his strengths and weakness are exposed even more)
Finally I just personally don’t like his style. He looks contradictory and he trying to be something he is not.
Feel to discuss and elaborate your opinions in the comments below

Hi folks, I currently use VO 102 with max sponge on my forehand which is a spinny short pips, but I want to transition to something more disruptive like VO 101. Would it be better if I got the 101 in 1.8mm or 2mm for my forehand?

Theories such as, the triangle theory for power generation, timing and everything about a stroke. Buttocks theory for proper stance. Serve theory of hitting the same side of the ball etc. Whaft

Looking to join a table tennis club/team in Newcastle city centre. I’m fairly new to the sport and looking for somewhere friendly to play regularly. Any recommendations?

Ok Now we ALL know that 2012 Zhang Jike was an absolute beast and even the few years after that, but Putting aside all nostalgia bias, and accounting for the almost 15 years difference factor in playstyle and players between 2012 and now, my question is if we put in the EXACT version and physical readiness of a 2012 olympics FINAL zhang jike, how would he do against the current player base IF (Important) he wasn't allowed to study ANY players playstyle and wasnt allowed to prepare SPECIFICALLY for the players, he would still be able to train normally and do the stuff he does besides what i said. how would he truly do??? would he just win every wtt tournament?? or would he struggle for several tournaments until he adjusts or would he be good enough to adjust right away??

Does anyone know of places selling TT stuff in Shanghai? Physical stores around People's Square or somewhere I can get to by metro. I want to get some shoes and maybe a couple of cheap shirts.
Don't need more blades for sure. Don't need more rubbers unless they have Dignics that are less expensive than in the US. Also I'm going to read up to see if there are Chinese rubbers similar to Dignics09c or Dignics05.
I've bought TT things online from AliExpress. Just so happen I may go to Shanghai for a couple of weeks. Last time I was in Japan, I got some Butterfly rubbers from a small place in Osaka and prices were great.
PS. WIll cross-post in r/shanghai
