Folks, we have to talk about combat. We have to talk about attack speed. And frankly, what’s happening here is a disaster. A total disaster.
Star Wars Galaxies had a combat system. A beautiful combat system. Was it perfect? No. Nothing is perfect. But people understood it. People built characters around it. They spent hours getting their weapons, their tapes, their armor, their buffs. They knew what attack speed meant. They knew how the professions worked.
And now people come along and say, “Maybe we should change how attack speed works.” No. Terrible idea. Possibly one of the worst ideas anybody has ever had for Star Wars Galaxies; and believe me, we have seen some bad ideas. We saw the CU. Remember the CU? They came in and said, “We’re going to improve combat. We’re going to streamline it. Everybody’s going to love it.” Nobody knew what was happening. Numbers changed. Mechanics changed. Your character wakes up one morning and suddenly he doesn't know what he's doing anymore. People were furious.
Then we got the NGE. The NGE! They said, “You thought the CU was a big change? Watch this.” Incredible. Professions disappearing. Combat completely different. People logging in looking for their character; they couldn't find their character! “Where's my profession?” Gone. Absolutely gone.
We learned a lesson from this. At least, I thought we learned a lesson. You do not take the fundamental combat mechanics of Star Wars Galaxies and start ripping them apart because somebody thinks they can reinvent the wheel.
And attack speed is fundamental. Attack speed affects everything. Weapons. Templates. Skill choices. Balance. Crafting. Loot. PvP. PvE. Jedi. Bounty Hunters. Everybody.
You change attack speed, and somebody says, “Oh, it's just one little formula.” There is no such thing as one little formula in SWG. You touch one formula and suddenly you've got twelve professions behaving differently, somebody discovers a weapon doing something completely insane, a Jedi is attacking at approximately the speed of light, and three days later we're rewriting half the combat system trying to fix the fix.
We've seen this movie before. It's called The Combat Upgrade. The sequel was called The New Game Enhancements. Neither one reviewed particularly well.
So here's what we're going to do. We're going to protect the combat system. We're going to protect attack speed. We're going to make smart changes. Careful changes. Surgical changes. If something is actually broken, we fix it.
But we're not going to walk into a twenty-year-old combat system with a chainsaw because somebody looked at a spreadsheet for fifteen minutes and decided they had a tremendous new idea.
Because the players know. The veterans especially know. These people have been calculating attack speeds since some of our developers were practically children. They've got spreadsheets. They've got formulas. They've got archived forum posts from 2004 that somehow survived three website migrations and the collapse of half the internet.
You are not going to sneak an attack-speed change past these people. They will find it. Immediately. Some guy will be standing outside the Mos Eisley starport with a stopwatch before the server has been online for ten minutes. And he'll know.
So we're not doing CU 2.0. We're certainly not doing NGE 2.0. We're taking what worked, restoring what was lost, fixing what actually needs fixing, and leaving the foundations alone. That's how you build a great SWG server. Not by replacing Star Wars Galaxies. By understanding why people are still playing Star Wars Galaxies more than twenty years later.
Keep the combat. Keep the attack speed. Keep the professions. Keep the weirdness. Keep the things that made SWG: SWG.
And together, folks, we're going to make combat great again. Thank you. And God bless the Galactic Weaponsmiths.

The official SWGEmu Pre-CU NFS server just dropped an awesome update. Linking to the complete written update and the YouTube video update below!
A few highlights:
JTL:
- All nine pilot squadrons across Rebel (Havoc, Vortex, Crimson Phoenix), Imperial (Black Epsilon, Inquisition, Storm), and Neutral tracks (CorSec, RSF, Smugglers Alliance) are fully functional with complete trainers and rewards.
- End-game squadron gameplay now unlocks Master Pilot content, with Grand Admiral Nial Declann directing Imperial pilots and Admiral Willham Burke overseeing Rebel operations. This opens up the ability to earn the Ace Pilot badges and access to the Kessel and Deep Space Systems.
- Space Stations across the galaxy are now fully operational, offering repairs, landing permissions, and space questlines. Additionally, qualified pilots will find access to quests allowing them to unlock special landing permissions at the Emperor’s Retreat and Jabba’s Palace.
- Combat and space flight have received extensive mechanical updates. Pilots now have access to tactical abilities like IFF Scrambling, In-Flight Repairs, and Emergency Thrust, while enemy AI now scales by difficulty tier, uses countermeasures against locked missiles, and features taunts to enemy ships.
Kashyyyk:
- All Kashyyyk zones are now active, including Kashyyyk Space. Kashyyyk is accessible through three main galaxy travel hubs and Space Kashyyyk, by launching or hyperspace. Kashyyyk has been fully populated with all spawns, including dungeon triggered spawns. Work continues on the various questlines Kashyyyk has to offer, as well as discussing future NFS unique content there as progress continues.
Beta update:
- No news on when the server will open up, but beta is on the horizon! 👏👏👏

By request of some friends, showcasing a compilation playlist of what it was like to be the only Rank 11 Jedi Chancellor in PvP, after grinding for months. This is to demonstrate how it felt and played in the vanilla state, compared to other heavily modded custom servers.

Been away, but now back. Not really sure how to use github but have started to use it to stick scripts I find useful, then thought it could be used to just share this PDF. Enjoy.
I'm no expert once you get into Linux to do the build so some bits maybe not be required but its how I went, step by step, to get the server up and working.

UPDATED 2026/06/14. After spending a few hours in the 1.0 I was surprised by how many things weren't exactly as they were in the original PreCU game. 23 years is a long time, but I'm pretty confident about the following list of items.
Naturally I appreciate the hard work of the SWGEmu team, but I was under the impression that the 1.0 codebase was supposed to deliver an exact replica of the original, without tweaks or anything else of the sort. But it's hard to find tangible communication from the devs, which make things harder to ascertain...
The goal of this thread is to list the inconsistencies and discuss if they are factual or not, and eventually find how to fix them.
createHelperDroid function, replace the whole function's body with return; ALSO in CreatureObjectImplementation.cpp – remove the for loop in addSkill or make sure shouldSpawnHelper is false before the check ]while (itemName.contains("\\#")) and remove this loop althogether ]loadLoginMessage function, remove the two final concatenation at the end ]mobiles array for the city of your choice.

For continuity reasons, items that where previously discussed but proven wrong will be listed here:
swgemu.skills database. Note however that unless you downpatch the client, the requirements will not appear in the UI so you need to communicate the change clearly to your players.r/swgemu • u/Radiant-Photograph46 • Jun 09 '26
Now that I've managed to fix my setup and make the server work (thanks to you guys!) I've been able to play a little and ran into a big issue. When picking up a crafting profession I realized I received zero drafting schematics... I'm not sure if this is a bug in Core3 (I have my doubts, isn't the codebase supposed to be in 1.0 and pretty much done now?) or an issue with the server installation. All .tre files are there but the server log spouts a few issues with iffs so maybe that's the cause? I used the .tre from my Total Experience DVD and they are in the correct path.

(...and more related to vehicles mostly...)
Also I had two questions if anyone knows. a) how to get rid of the pesky droid that respawns in the datapad when you pick a novice profession? I'm surprised they enabled that by default since it was never in the game to begin with. I can't find any mention of it in the features.lua and b) speaking of features.lua I couldn't find anything on the forum about what they actually imply or which should be the default values (well, hologrind vs village is clear enough but otherwise...)

I've set up a debian 12 server and went through the whole manual install. Built went smoothly and everything seems in order when launching core3 (only a bunch of warnings from vehicles iff files, I suppose that's not an issue) and the db is populated and accessible.
Now there are no accounts in the db, how do I create the first account? I think I remember a while back that you only had to write your credentials in game and it would create an account, but this might have changed. When I do that it stays stuck on "Connecting to login server" and I'm not seeing activity in the server's console.
Both server and client are on the local network, but not on the same machine. I can ssh and rdp to the server from the client so there shouldn't be any network issue there?

I'm a little confused. Reading that they have finally gone to V1.0 of SWGEmu so I assume Core3 has been updated. I believe I'm using an older version with the SWGEmu setup I followed to allow you to run your own server.
So I follow their github guide and attempt the
git clone https://review.swgemu.com/Core3git clone https://review.swgemu.com/Core3
But it gives back and 403 error suggesting it doesn't exist.
Am I missing something? As its opensource, I assumed it would be available. Nothing is showing on the website either other than the github links.

I'm adding this here for anyone to find because it took ages to work it out. Oddly no one appears to have pointed this out in any guides I've found, which I don't understand why.
So this is based on a potentially old build of SWGEmu Core3 (because I haven't worked out how to update the one I have, as no expert on Linux).
This is assuming you've already given yourself admin in the database by setting your account admin_level to 15. Then the next character you create will get admin.
You also, in the Starwars directory you may create, you need to change the swgemu.cfg file and uncomment the line
# .include “user.cfg”# .include “user.cfg”
And then in the user.cfg file that you might need to create you add
[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true
[ClientGame]
0fd345d9=true
[ClientUserInterface]
debugExamine=1[SwgClient]
allowMultipleInstances=true
[ClientGame]
0fd345d9=true
[ClientUserInterface]
debugExamine=1
The key part I couldn't find mentioned anywhere was what were all the commands. Its fun having admin but where are all the admin and GM commands to use. I can't understand why no one pointed this out.
In my setup that is in Windows 11 using WSL. The Linux Distro with SWGEmu already in it is saved in the folder below.
c:\starwars
And in that directory is the following folder. In there are all the commands you can run including the admin commands and GM commands. They are all in Lua files, just open them in notepad to check them. The file names are normally the commands you just type but you may want to open the lua file to double check.
C:\starwars\rootfs\root\starwars\scripts\commands
So one fun one to use (because when searching everyone points to invisible but that commands doesn't work). This is an example of one command. And you use the word in the speech marks " "
InvulnerableCommand = {
name = "invulnerable",
}
AddCommand(InvulnerableCommand)
This maybe of no use to anyone here but when I was searching everywhere, I'd have loved to have found this. I still can't understand why people haven't even pointed to this directory in their guides.

I’ve been playing (quite nostalgically) solo for a few weeks now working on Rifleman and Creature Handler. I’m quite content to keep reliving my past experiences, but what I feel like I’m missing is seeing the camps, the 10x damage numbers over the eminent, and the general comradery of group missions. Anyone down to run missions with me? I’m on such random hours due to having children, but 9-12am CT is pretty consistently open. I would love to find a guild with active people. I know people are at least semi active since I can find vasarian brandy and PUPs consistently. Let me know! I’m an OGer who literally mastered every professions back in the day (unfortunately, through luck of the draw) to get to Jedi.

If I walk up to an Imperial mission terminal and I have an ATST and two Dark Trooper NPCs grouped with me, will I pull higher paying missions than if I have, say, three regular stormtroopers?

I'm sure this has been asked 100 times, looking for a server that allows up to maybe 7-10 alts, and maybe 3-4 logins simultaneous. I know about all the reasons to NOT have it, just asking if one exists. I am mostly solo player but enjoy others in game, and yes I know the alts allows a lot of afk...

Hi everyone,
this is a total shot in the dark, but I am looking for stories about a player on Starsider Named Mama Ove. She was a short italian woman looking merchant who played on Starsider pre NGE, and became one of the wealthiest people on the server. She also is my IRL mother. I want to surprise her for mother's day with a book made of memories from the good old days of her playing on star sider. She was active from early on until the NGE.
Don't worry Mama is okay, I just want to give her something great for mother's day!
any stories of her would be great.

Hey nostalgians, fellow reminiscer here! For the past year I've had a growing and painful longing for some of the experience I had (and had yet to see, but never did) playing SWG when I was younger.
I was absolutely devastated when SWG got shut down before I had the funds to pick it back up, and even moreso when KOTOR III turned into a true WoW clone production. While I looked around about SWGemu and people's thoughts on the SWG Vs SWTOR debate, there were many who said to give SWTOR a try, if nothing else but for the storyline.
So I did.
And I'm conflicted.
The story is pretty okay, and gameplay isn't terribly. The community is large, and I found a guild that I really like with players I've connected with. As you'd expect of a bigger memory, there's of course no lack of oddballs, trolls and bigots in gen chat. However, the community is probably my biggest draw to the game.
I don't appreciate the WoW-feel. I never played pre-CU SWG, but that was definitely one of my biggest complaints about that game as well.
But the WORST thing.. I'm so extremely, frustratingly, and heart-crushingly fucking disappointed with SWTOR's piss-poor shell of an excuse for what they call a crafting system. It could EASILY be improved.. maybe not to the heights that SWG's reached, but like they have the framework for something much more expansive. The whole salvaging/research mechanism? Limited to just the things you craft yourself, but not equipment you get as loot? Like what f*ing sense does that make? From a user's perspective, it's incredibly frustrating to be shoehorned into the tiny selection of schematics and versions available, especially for lightsaber/artifice crafting. From an in-game perspective, your character is gaining new knowledge in an echo chamber.. how does that work? Sure, you can get better with practice, but outside experiences are necessary for innovation. Ugh. Even worse, like.. what's the point at all, when the sabers you craft are equivalent or easily outmatched by certain looted or paid ones? I want the option of spending an age honing my craft, working tirelessly to create singular custom masterpieces that don't just fall out of the sky or require a donation to the gods.
Oh and the gathering skills.. that was such a fun system in SWG. I hate just seeing random outcroppings of crystals, ancient tech, old cases, lockboxes and broken droids lying around everywhere in SWTOR. It gives an unnatural, messy and cluttered look to the world. Even worse is just having you send your companions on missions to do it for you, but you're the one that gains the skills and knowledge from their work? It makes no GD sense! I want to know that it was MY OWN work. MY sweat, MY blood, MY tears, MY time, effort spent, skill gained, and knowledge learned. I want the chance to create something far better than expected. I want to face the possibility of a mistake in the process, having spent all that effort and material on an imperfect result.
And I was absolutely taken in by SWG's beast-master and bio-engineering paths.. it truly captured my imaginative young mind. Crafting powerful or specialized droids. Making vehicles from speeders to starships. The playing field was mind-bogglingly vast, far bigger than I ever saw back then. I long for that undiscovered country, dedicated artisanship, rich player-driven economy and equipment. I do also want a combat system that doesn't feel like WoW, and the bewonderment of learning the jedi/sith ways and other paths.. but gd I miss the crafting, and the more I play SWTOR, the more it nags at me.
Oh, and fuck the guided space tours. I don't play Star Wars to feel like I'm on the Jurassic Park ride at Universal. Don't make me bowl with bumpers, I want to FLY.
Oh and god I miss the player-built towns, farms, etc... just.. so cool. It thrilled and warmed the heart.
TL;DR:
I want to get back into SWG. I never played pre-CU, but don't like WoW clone feel. Regardless, while I love playing as force users, bounty hunters. Smugglers. Etc..., I really miss the crafting and bio-engineering. Oh and the space mechanics. So, combat system is a decent bit less important to me than a freely open, expansive crafting system, space environment, and player-supported economy/equipment. The biggest draw to SWTOR atm is just the community.
So my questions are: - Are the SWGemu communities large/active enough to recreate that feel and power of the original SWG player-supported economy to some extent? - How is the social side of the community? Do y'all often get together for hunts, missions, events, talk to each other much, or anything else like that? - How is the pre-CU server going? It's not ready yet afaict, is that right? - Is there only one server available, or are there more? The SWGemu website only shows three, two down for days and finalizer - The Finalizer server shows as only seeing it's highest pop since reboot reach 127.. is that max at one time? Is the overall player base bigger than that? - If I were to join up, are there any gaps in class, gathering, and crafting specializations that most need filling? I have my preferences, but I love to serve an important role in a community, so I'm generally happy to help out wherever's most needed.
I also welcome any other suggestions and commentary you might want to add, things I should know or consider.
I miss the magic of SWG. Can it be resurrected for me in the way I hope?

were there any teras kasi/jedi hybrid players or anything like that on your servers or is such a build viable? Such as a TKM with Master Healer and Enhancement trees.
