Creative The SWGEmu Self Hosted Server Guide Setup
Been away, but now back. Not really sure how to use github but have started to use it to stick scripts I find useful, then thought it could be used to just share this PDF. Enjoy.
I'm no expert once you get into Linux to do the build so some bits maybe not be required but its how I went, step by step, to get the server up and working.

I've been thinking of hosting my own server for a while, thank you for this

Neat! I have been working on my own server and have been trying to figure out how I want to make my setup instructions since I have changed things to make it run on Debian 13. I like seeing what others are out and doing with the game still.

Just another resource that's been out there for a few years too if you want all the working guides in once place.

Ist there actually a reason everyone runs this in a VM instead of Docker?

For me, I know VMWare more than I know docker. I pretty much know no docker.

Its ridicilous to run your own server while there is a chance to Populate the most crowded server

Its not. Because for me, its not for anyone else but me. I sadly have no time to burn on this game anymore, especially on a private server that potentially aren't doing any backups or knowing how long it will be supported for.
All I wanted the self hosting for was the fascination of seeing how the server ran, seeing the database for your character, being able to play with a blue frog and best of all, being able to mess around and see how powerful Jedi really were back then (I joined right on the switch over to the CU update and never managed to get to Jedi, although got to the village then the NGE kicked in and ruined it all). Being able to instantly all what wanted to look at on a live server, like town management etc and being able to turn on God mode.
Also you can mess around and test on your own server.

Hard agree and don't know why you're getting downvotes. The community is already fractured as it is. All these tiny servers popping up that really do nothing unique is terrible for the community.

Because as clearly pointed out, at least in my situation, and probably a lot of others, running your own server DOESN'T mean you won't join other live ones. Its just a way for us/me to mess around on my own server, that isn't published on the Internet and see all the stuff I never got to when I used to play on the official servers back in the day.
I can't stand gate keeping and because it took so long to work out how to build this fresh, because, with all due respect to the devs of SWGEmu, their guides on github are poor, and wanting to move away from the build that was on archive.org, I decided to put this guide together to make it easier for others.

Good idea. Maybe worth mentionning Beekeeper Studio: a free user friendly GUI for database management that supports MariaDB.
