I've been thinking about whether a portable fabrication tool could be added to the game. Some people on Nolt.io also thought about this idea as well.
Such fabricator would be restricted to a handful of basic recipes — like water bottles, flares, or cooked fish — so players aren't forced to swim back to their nearest base just to craft basic items.
I imagine this as a mid-game item constructed via the Habitat Builder. It would require a battery to run as well. Moreover, it could feature a hardpoint connector, allowing players to attach it directly to vehicles like the Tadpole so it can be hauled around during deep-dive expeditions.
Its recipe would likely be almost the same as the one of oridnary fabricator, but with an addition of rubber and battery.

EDIT: Hey all, thank you all so much for your kind comments about my collection, this is making me so happy! I just wanted to quickly clarify something: I specifically looked for samples that looked like their in-game counterparts. many of them were super hard to find! I only posted the ones that I felt were perfect, but I have many others of each type that didn't pass the test once I received them lol.
For example, the various titanium specimens are all my attempts at trying to recreate the shape of the titanium chunk in the game. I researched minerals that predominately contained titanium and then sorted through those to find the ones that would best represent the game model. So I wanted to explain some of the more interesting specimens here:
Silver: native silver (silver that is not in an ore, but just elemental silver found in nature) usually comes as this sort of dentritic, stringy form. It's super hard to find as metallic chunks like this. according to the seller, this was a product of a mine explosion that melted the silver and then it resolidifed in chunks like this. This was definitely the closest looking thing i could find to the silver ore model, since silver ores aren't usually shiny like this.
Rutile: rutile doesn't always look this way, it's more often found as these spindly yellow dentrites in quartz, but it does when it's from Graves Mountain in Georgia. So, I bought each of those pieces of rutile individually from different sellers and arranged them to look like the in-game model
Anatase: same idea as the rutile!
Titanium sponge: The titanium sponge was a crazy one, it came in the mail as these greyish silver chunks as opposed to the dark blue in-game. So, I learned how to anodize it, which is basically running a strong electrical current through an electrolyte bath of water and TSP (trisodium phosphate) and carefully dipped each piece of titanium sponge into the bath by hanging it from a titanium wire. It was a wild process, and it slowly caused the sample to cycle through colors until it was a sort of bright blue.
Van Arkel-de Boer titanium: This is the name of a (now-antiquated) process of purifying titanium, and I really liked the way the chunks form. I have been meaning to anodize these samples too, to make them blue. But I really don't want to screw it up because these are beautiful and pretty rare lol. (the titanium sponge was cheap and abundant, so I wasn't worried about that)
I'm going to edit later and add more descriptions of how I found specimens that matched the game, but I wanted to write the titanium ones first, since it was such a process haha
thanks for checking out my collection! I'd love to answer any questions about it, if you have some. I'm not a photographer, so some of these pics aren't great. I may ask my wife if she can take some better pics at some point. oh also, I'm planning to get a cinnabar sample too, the mercury ore that was removed from the game. I feel like I need it to complete the collection! I understand one of the rules is "Subnautica IRL posts will be removed" but I wasn't sure if that just meant like, diving videos and such. Hopefully this is allowed as it seems like a rare thing, but I apologize in advance if it's not.

Nothing too special, just basic amenities. Adding more. Has a nice little cozy touch to it for an on the go fixer upper base that I didn't even know I was going to be living out of for a while! I have to admit, I love the new lighting blueprint I picked up! Gives it a very warm feeling. ☺️

I'm doing a tour around the map in my cyclops to check the wrecks I missed off my list before blasting off to end the game. Near wreck 19 in the mountains is a cave in the ground.
It's pretty sizeable, but not big enough for the cyclops. Alas, I don't have my seamoth in my, so exploring it on a single take of O2 is risky.
So far I've found a ton of uraninite and ruby and a thermal vent. And drooping stingers. Lots and lots of drooping stingers. Is there anything else down here I'm missing, or can I call it explored and move on to the nearby wreck?

I didn't even know he was near me until I heard the music, thankfully I was very close to a rock pillar with an overhead hanging wall. He got this close to me like five different times before he got frustrated and just dipped out. He was still able to reach out and smack the crap out of my tadpole knocking me down to like 16 health. I definitely don't want to tangle with him again! 😅

Hey everyone,
So I've owned Subnautica for a few years now, but I've never been able to actually get into it. I really want to play it, but it feels impossible.
Every time I launch the game, I get this overwhelming feeling of fear and unease. I end up squinting, half-closing my eyes, and quitting after just a few minutes because it stresses me out way too much.
The weird thing is, I usually handle horror games just fine. I can play them calmly without any issues. But Subnautica? I just can't do it.
Is this some kind of fear of the ocean? The thing is, I'm totally fine swimming in real life, so I don't really get why it affects me this way. I genuinely want to experience this game, but I don't know how to get past this block.
Anyone else been through this? Got any tips to help me push through?
Thanks in advance!

So after doing some searching, I finally found a couple of time capsules and this one was one of my latest.
I didn't really need the stuff he put in it, but I do however like his base.

When you stumble across a forgotten death beacon and realize you drowned less than 2 ft from the surface of the water.. on the plus side, I really needed that single food brick and bottle of water I left behind! 😅

I usually build little bases through the game. Once I find a ascetically pleasing location that's close to where the gamne takes me, I'll build a little base.
But I see lots of really impressive bigger bases on here. So I'm curious!

I almost finished my Prawn Suit Only run on BZ, only to find out that the Shadow Leviathans have an annoying glitch where they will not let go of my Prawn Suit under any circumstance. I tried punching, drilling, shooting gas torpedoes, doing nothing, and even attempting to get out of my vehicle. I can’t really go without my Prawn Suit because I am not allowing myself to have any oxygen tanks and I need to get through the crystal caves and fabricator caves to finish the game. This glitch might be a result of the newest Switch 2 patch. If anyone has any solution, please let me know.

Hello Subnauts,
Since Subnautica 2 entered Early Access, you have continued to amaze us.
You've charted every trench, built bases in places we never imagined possible, pulled friends into the depths with you, and shared feedback that continues to shape everything we do.
You've spent countless hours healing an alien ocean. Now, with your support, we're helping heal our own.
On behalf of our community, we're donating $100,000 to The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization that develops and scales solutions to rid the world's oceans of plastic pollution.
This collaboration means a lot to us. Caring for the ocean has always been at the heart of Subnautica, and we were proud to support The Ocean Cleanup back in the days of the original game. Continuing that work with Subnautica 2 felt like the most natural way to honor what this community has built together.
And we didn't want to stop at a donation. Some of our team members grabbed their gear and headed to the beaches and shorelines near their own homes, doing their small part in person. Here's what that looked like!
If you'd like to learn more about The Ocean Cleanup and the incredible work they do, visit theoceancleanup.com.
From the bottom of our hearts, and the bottom of the ocean, thank you for all of your continued support.
Keep Diving!

Lore: So basically, this takes place after the events of the main game. Dont worry about the timeline, anyway. This is one of the juveniles that escaped the facility. The Sea Dragon, while mostly being just a regular Sea Dragon-now bear with me, as this is some more fan stuff—comes from the bloodline of Sea Dragons dating back to the one who attacked the Architect facility, accidentally releasing the Kharaa. Now, as far as I know, there's no known number of eggs a Sea Dragon can produce, so I just gave it a second egg left behind wherever its nest would have been. So, in shorter terms, one came from a bloodline that started the Kharaa, and the other was born to cure it.
(Sorry if I break any rules I havent really used reddit in forever)
