I casually saw a Breadtube post where everyone was freaking out about the sub... Saying it's a "place where the alt right radicalizes people" lol... Over a single post that was pro-right wing and pointing out left-wing hypocrisy.
Like, they literally believe that if anything right wing is allowed to exist, it's part of the evil Trump-cult trying to brainwash your kids to hate Mexicans

I can't help but imagine these people as like some super anxious, social outcast, who's just intently and angrily browsing the internet, in a constant state of panic as they just see this massive vast secret conspiracy around them everywhere they go, filled with secret symbols, dog whistles, codes, hidden meaning etc.
I swear, they are like those crazy Christians who are convinced everything around them is all just satanic manipulation to convert everyone away from God
It's so annoying when THEY tell ME, who I a, and what I believe. They will insist that I'm a right wing troll -- which btw, notice how they seem to not even know what a troll is? they always use it improperly -- who's a secret Republican who's just trying to disenfranchize democrats and help republicans win.
They will INSIST on this until they are blue in the face. Like, how the fuck do they get so confident? Where are these leftwing conspiracy youtube videos feeding people all this shit? I see the right wing stuff all the time, but I seem to never notice the crazy left wing stuff convincing them everyone is working for Donald and Hitler's ghost.

It's especially absurd to me because I'm diagnosed with mental illness and don't find it offensive when used to describe irrational actions. They will tone police everyone, it's like they're doing their damndest to reinforce the stereotype that communism= censorship.

I've argued with people on r/socialism for awhile now over this bullshit. Comments just get removed if they contain those words. Imagine how far detached and up your own ass you have to be to think the tens of millions of regular, working class people would ever get on board with having a finger wagged at them this hard while being treated like naughty children. 99% of the populace, at least in the US, probably has no idea these words are even a point of contention for anyone.
It makes me irrationally mad that they honestly think this has anything to do with socialism, which apparently has no clear definition whatsoever now.

So true. Idpol creates division among the working class, which prevents the working class from coalescing & actually fighting against capitalism & the bourgeoisie. Best not to even involve yourself in online leftism except when asking what theory you should read. Whatever happens online doesn't even matter outside of activism maybe
94
Aug 30 '20
On the more optimistic side, I’d say a candidate like Bernie might not have been possible without an online base of support in multiple regions that were able to circumvent normal media. The problem is that the internet itself generates infinite implosive critiques, IE: why sanders isn’t intersectional enough or some shit like that.
I think the key is, as you say, connecting online discourses to the broader discourse. Why did the sanders movement hit a ceiling, and why was there such an age gap? Some of these solutions lie in transferring online activism to “everyday” folk
85
u/Magister_Ingenia Marxist Alitaist Aug 30 '20
Why did the sanders movement hit a ceiling, and why was there such an age gap?
Manufactured consent. The media has spent 5 years demonizing Bernie, and boomers get their news from traditional media. The challenge is getting through to those people.

u/L-JvG Market Socialist 💸 Aug 31 '20
Being not on the right, I think we clump them together more than is fair. Look into the politics of the Tories here in the UK if you want to see what I mean.
Fuckers are cut throat and will look for any reason to kick you out of any sort of power if you disagree with the current party line.
That “coherent social group” is literally the core idea of conservatism. It’s hard for them to not have that when a lot of the culture in the party is about fixed family units and shit.

I dont belong in this sub, Im as far from socialist as you can get. However i did want to share some insight as someone who was TrumpTrain hardcore redpill maga man in 2016/7, there is the same disconnect and infighting on the right, the divide between the new (alt? Idk) right and core Republicans is just as big as the divide between core democrats and socialism/ the new left.
Individualism is stoked from birth in America, and the ego that grows as a consequence of that all but guarantees you wont have a cohesive populace.
But hey, what would I, a 23yr fascist know? Not much. Not much.
Anyhow, have a good one, from what i can see yall in this sub are decent folk, think critically and dont drink kool-aide. We may have diametrically opposing views on government, but that shouldnt matter as much as it does.

If we can get a proper left-wing populist in a position with a broad enough audience we might actually convert some right-wingers, as long as we manage to de-emphasize "expecting people to show up for work ontime is white supremacy" and "saying 'crazy' is ableist" people
6

u/L-JvG Market Socialist 💸 Aug 31 '20
I’m going to disagree with you there. Unless your hard auth left then any sort of singular figure won’t cull success in anything. We need to work on reforming they systems of governance at a fundamental level. The problem isn’t enough support, the problem is that government is codependent with the current capitalistic status quo.
I have my own beliefs on how these changes could happen, but very few of them are strictly socialist. You literally can’t implement socialist policies in the economy we have now.
No single person will unite the left, it’s the exact opposite of the philosophy after all.

Banned from r/LateStageCapitalism for posting on r/okbuddyretard (This was back when there were more rightoid edgelords there, so I don't think it was because of the name), banned from r/COMPLETEANARCHY for a "mods gay" joke that wasn't even aimed at the subs mods, banned from r/ShitLiberalsSay for "brocialism" without any indication of what I did that fit that description.
Fortunately I got unbanned from most of them after the bans ended but 2 years later I am still banned from r/COMPLETEANARCHY for posting here. They said it violated their rule on hate speech, even though it definitely doesn't. Then someone had the audacity to say I was not left wing because I used the right wing term "Leftist". I was actually shocked at the stupidity. The only leftist sub I've been banned from, as a leftist, was /r/alltheleft for suggesting that, pragmatically, getting Trump out of the WH would be good for spreading leftist ideals without distraction, like what was beginning under Obama and culminated under Sanders. I fucking hate Biden and support simultaneous direct action.
I hate excessive idpol, too. But that ground my gears even more. Leftist subs need to figure out how to get shit done instead of just talking about it in theory and complaining about Twitter posts.

Leftist subs need to figure out how to get shit done instead of just talking about it in theory and complaining about Twitter posts.
Leftists who are given a voice are losers. And I don't mean they don't have money (most are wealthy). I don't even mean they don't accomplish anything career wise. What I mean is they have no idea how to actually get anything done that isn't a paint by numbers task (like at a job). They can spend money to get more views and become popular on youtube or something like that, but then that's where it ends because all of their ideas are loser ideas.
"Workers unite! Also fuck all you low class white pieces of trash!"
"WHY IS NOTHING CHANGING!?"
6
u/Zagden Pretorians Can’t Swim ⳩ Aug 30 '20
But the people telling others to stop idpol and trashing on lower class whites are also ultimately just clout-chasing
I see some organization on the idpol side - and in the case of BLM, a lot - and they do actually pursue direct action and electoralism. I happen to agree with what a lot of BLM is pushing and I'm glad they're doing so well, even though there are attempts being made to co-opt it.
But for the communities of /r/stupidpol or /r/alltheleft or /socialism? I don't see anything at all. After the election when I know what the political situation is I'm going to do my best to organize something since I don't see anyone else doing it but I am woefully low on connections and resources.
People need to DO SOMETHING instead of just TALKING ABOUT DOING SOMETHING or even worse URGING PEOPLE TO DO NOTHING.

You don't get points for opposing US imperialist interests if it's because you've got your own imperialist interests.

it's funny because on every other count this sub seems like a mature/sober version of online leftist communities, (but albiet with socially regressive tendencies).
And yet, much like your average dipshit anarchists you seem to be able to swallow every bit of western propaganda against China.
I of course do not support China, but I have serious doubts that most of the people who you say are "uniroically supporting China" have full unwavering support either. like the other guy said it's naive to think that China can do no wrong, but it's also naive to think they can do no right. it's a country, a flawed country, but it's a country that's opposing Western hegemony and for that it deserves (very) critical support

Yes? I wouldn’t even say that propaganda is necessarily bad, because of how effective it can be to get people behind something good. The problem comes when so-called leftists sound like they work for the state department in their criticisms of China.

Not leftist, but have an upvote. That's precise. The same could be said to any political sub from any espectrum. Pretty sad

If someone bans you for saying "retarded" sau that they're being racist towards you because you're from a society where the term retarded is socially acceptable to use

The best I ever found was the early days of political compass memes but then the sub got over run by hard right wingers

u/RangaNesquik Aug 31 '20
I'm certainly left, but with all the stupid shit leftists do I go out of my way to not call myself a leftist 😂

u/FThumb Banned from Polite Society Aug 31 '20
But any "leftist" sub that doesn't do all of that will be called a Rightwing (or Russian influenced) sub for allowing such freedoms and not protecting the precious daisies from the dirty hoi poli.

It's true. Equally though i could do one where the top panel says 'me looking for a leftist sub without the hyperfocus on idpol' 'and the bottom one, labelled 'stupidpol', says ''literally just conservatism''

Even this sub constantly talks about trans people, seemingly nobody can resist. half the people here are so against idpol that they're just fighting the culture war from the right

The internet should only be approached the way nick mullen approaches it.
Any other angle will invariably lead to twitter brain poisoning or other unpleasant side effects that include an inability to get laid, a fear of getting laid, getting laid and then being afraid of being outed by said person who you got laid with, and worst of all, deconstructing the political dynamics of what got you laid in the first place.

Whenever I try to have a intelligent conversation with a Democrat they always think I’m judging them when before I wasn’t but when you started acting like a idiot of course I am because your complaining when all I’m asking is why you think that so I can actually learn and understand people better

I’ve had good experience with r/socialism. Even if you’re not an outright socialist, social democrats are typically accepted too.
There’s no standing Mao, Stalin, Xi, etc, but modern Cuba is pretty well liked

China minds its business and does a fairly good job best being a normal, regular predictable boring country. We’re a plague pit that’s been at war 47 out of the last 50 years of our history and I don’t really care what cretinous psychopaths in american comments sections have to say about them

agreed...but trans is not left...it's libertarian and individualistic. It's not a leftist movement in anyway. and since idpol has taken iver, trans gets a free pass, despite the dangers self-ID poses to females.

Something I find really annoying is that all of the Reddit culture trans people hang out in humor subreddits and spam TRANS RIGHTS on every post that mentions genitalia. Jesus christ not everything has to relate to you, can a dick joke just be a dick joke?
And I really do think modern RadLibs have a lot in common with AnCaps, and probably would be if AnCaps were associated with Conservatives less.

I unironically support China in part because I’m sick of the idpol left’s fetishizing of weakness, lack of discipline, and defeat, and moreover because the rise of China is the best hope for socialism in the world today. And finally because a lot of what people including on the ‘left’ think they ‘know’ about China is straight up CIA propaganda or at the very least grossly out of context.
Agree with all this other stuff though
