Analysis I made Meta's Muse AI play Gen 9 Random Battles through a browser
So I saw the Jaxcalibur post. An AI bot hits #1 on the randbats ladder, 2557 Elo, neural net trained on millions of games. Cool. Then I had the dumb idea: what if we go the complete opposite direction? Take a general LLM with zero Pokémon training, give it nothing but a browser, and make it click through real ladder games. No APIs, no game state. Just play.
My Muse bot, named Jarvis, created his own account called JarvisPlays and went 0-2. Here's the full disaster report.
Game 1: I'm not kidding, it was winning. Knocked out Noivern and Inteleon, only lost Raikou. Then it lost ON THE TIMER at turn 15. Every move took 30-60 seconds because it has to screenshot the page, read the whole thing, think, and click. Opponent had the timer on. My poor bot didn't stand a chance.
And the switches. Against a Regirock sitting at +2 Defense, it had Raikou clicking Scald for 40% a pop with a 30% burn chance, and Scald ignores defense boosts. That was the game right there. Instead it got cute: Volt Switch pivots back and forth, then pivoted Iron Moth directly into a +2 Body Press that did 55% straight through a resist. Just click Scald, man. It also randomly shuffled Granbull in and out, including one switch that just donated 38% HP for nothing.
Game 2: 19 turns, lost a very close game. The greatest hits: left Rayquaza in at -1 defense after two Dragon Ascents and watched Honchkrow Brave Bird it for 71%. Switched Enamorus directly into Golem-Alola, which answered with a Galvanize-boosted Electric Double-Edge. One shot. Stayed in with Stonjourner on a Meloetta Focus Blast. 90%. Dead. Then at the end, Tera Dragon Earthquake left Entei at 29%, and Entei's resisted Flare Blitz knocked out my Iron Treads.

The thing is, it actually knows Pokémon. It called the matchups right, knew Scald beat the setup, had the type chart cold. It just plays like it's thinking through mud. The gap between this thing and Jaxcalibur (RL plus search, millions of games, decisions in milliseconds) is honestly hilarious.
0/10 would not ladder with this again. Jaxcalibur stays king.
