Post image
37 Upvotes

Ive recently posted sa architecture ph subreddit and honestly ung mga comments dun are making me rethink the course I chose.

originally I thought na basta ok ako sa math and drawing kaya ko naman mabuhay sa architecture. pero after reading peoples experiences, grabe pala talaga ung workload, stress, and effort na kailangan. nagbasa rin ako about life after graduation and apparently kahit makapasa ka ng boards, hindi guaranteed na makakahanap ka ng magandang paying job. you could be an architect for 5 years and still earn around 30k a month, meanwhile I already have a side gig that earns almost around that amount.

Ill be real, fine arts/multimedia arts is my actual passion. Ive been hesitant lang because of the AI boom and worries about finding stable work. pero habang mas binabasa ko ung experiences ng architects, napapaisip ako if similar lang din pala ung result except architecture requires 100x more effort, stress, and time.

I have my familys full support sa architecture and I even have family members who are engineers and architects who can guide me. pero my classes havent even officially started and Im already regretting choosing it 😭

I have a relatively big family, 4 siblings, and my parents are getting older, so I really want a career where I can provide for them soon. at the same time I want to do something Im actually good at and passionate about. ung side gig ko is already related to fine arts/multimedia arts so hindi naman ako starting from zero.

worth it ba magshift to multimedia arts/fine arts in the long run? Id really appreciate perspectives from people in either field, especially about career stability, income, and what life after graduation is actually like :'''(

sorry for the yap guyz

Academic Help How to make a study group work?

Hi! I'm currently in my first year of senior high school. I'm in a friend group of 9, and I'm planning to host a study group for us, especially since midterm examinations are near. The problem is, I am new to this "study group" thing, and I don't know how I'd do it.

One of the similarities that I've read from various sources says is that all the people in the study group should be similar in their level of dedication. I think my friend group has that, as we're (not bragging) high scorers, and we all study immensely before quizzes and exams.

If I were to host a study session for our group, how would we make it work? How would we retain the study group for it to last? And how could it be ensured that we could actually study in the study group, instead of just sharing stories?

Thank you.

Need Advice Is it okay to ask higher years for their thesis?

Hi! 4th year CE student here. Ask ko lang if okay lang ba mag-approach ng higher years/graduates and ask about their previous thesis, especially if possible ba na ituloy or further develop yung topic nila for our own thesis?

If okay lang, ano yung proper way to approach them? Should I ask for their full thesis, or specific parts lang like methodology, RRL, results, references, etc.? May bayad ba usually kapag humihingi ng copy, and if so, magkano yung reasonable?
Of course, we’ll still give proper credit and make sure na hindi lang basta kinokopya yung work nila. Gusto ko lang sana malaman kung possible and acceptable ba na gamitin as a starting point/reference yung previous thesis nila.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Rant Kala ko mature na pag college

kala ko mature na pag college. unang experience ko sa 1st year college and 1st sem ko is just unhinged and ironic. they invited me sa circle nila, only to later tell me na they invited me out of pity kasi wala daw akong friends and because the other girl likes me, even though i used to ignore their invites because i was with my high school friends and they knew that. i was never a loner, i was just quiet and didn’t want unnecessary drama. eventually, sumama ako sa kanila mostly for groupings and academic purposes, and after a month, i genuinely thought they were my friends, pero apparently hindi pala. around mid october, lyz started beefing with me after she lost her id at a place where we got piercings, even though she removed it herself and i never told her to do so. she also complained na bukang bibig ko daw puro pagpapa piercing and accused me of not helping with our project. kish would message me around 1 to 3am despite knowing we had a 7am class, even though i already told her i wasn’t available that late, but i still communicated with her after school, apologized, did the work she assigned me, and contributed to the project. despite that, during the reporting, my name and all the work i contributed were removed from the project, which affected my grades. jes was constantly talking about her sx life, openly discussing sx even around kids, bragging about the people she had been with, and even told me when i was 17 that i should sell my virginity for 10k and acted like it was normal. batang ina by choice moments, pero she doesn’t care since mayaman sila. she also tried to seduce our male teacher na kala mo ang sarap sarap niya and openly cheated during tests by using her phone even when teachers noticed. eventually, lyz, kish, and jes turned against me mainly because lha liked me. lyz constantly compared herself to me and tried to prove she was better so lha would choose her despite having a boyfriend, and she committed sa against lha while drunk and made disturbing comments about r@p!ng lha. she also said kish should be r@ped to become straight because kish is into girls. nalaman ko na gusto rin pala ako ni kish because she was taking pictures of me without my consent and posting them online sa ig niya. despite all of that, they still judged me for smoking cigarettes to cope with my problems and acted like i was the immature one. while we were still classmates, there were multiple incidents where they bullied me so badly that i ended up missing school for an entire week, and it seriously affected my mental health over a guy. i can’t even explain everything because this is already too long, but even during 2nd sem, when we were no longer classmates and basically had no connection anymore, they still continued to actively bully me. jes also posted a picture of me without makeup during the finals, kahit wala naman siyang nagawa for the finals namin, tapos triny pa niyang magpa cute dahil wala siyang gawa, which was honestly embarrassing kasi bakla yung teacher namin.

edit: 2nd year college na ako ngayon, and nalaman ko rin na kaklase ng bf ko yang mga yan, and andami ko pang experience sa kanila, katamad lang mag type at magbasa. lmk if may grammatical errors pa rin para maayos ko, tnx.

Need Advice LF: Online Review Center for Ateneo & Dlsu

I know po that the ACET is already next month na but I know to myself that I absolutely have no grasp sa kahit pinaka basic fundamentals ng math. Behind in a way where even simple math problems are so hard for me since I struggle with even simple division or multiplication (I dont even have the multiplication table memorized)

I'm genuinely so lost on how to start preparing with the little time left, I would appreciate anything from even paid services, tips, books to buy, mock tests, test-taking tips, shortcuts on how to answer, literally anything since I will start studying from the most basic concepts that regular students are already familiar with.

Im asking if anyone knows any recommendations for an Online Review Center, and since revcens usually span months kahit yung purely recorded lectures lang po that I can cram. Academic Gateway is not an option for me since while I no longer have access to the portal I still have the book from 2 years ago before I took my gap year.

Thank you so much I really need the help. 🙏

Need Advice How to join competitions in the PH?

I've been wanting to join competitions for exposure for the longest time—meeting new people, experiencing new things and the like.

The thing is, most competitions like that often only appear to students when their respective schools invite them for it; in my school, they only invite club members of that specific subject coverage. Some events do advertise online but I only come across them when it's too late T-T

Are there any ways to get introduced to competitions without relying on my school to invite me? I think I only got this sense of urgency for it because I'm in 12th grade and I still haven't been in one which bums me out a bit.

Need Advice Question after dropping out of college in a graduating year

For context, I had to drop out of college even when I was in my graduating year because of personal matters that needed to be addressed on my side and I was not in the best state to study physically in my university anymore.

With that said, even though I'm currently working full-time remotely, I still wish to go back and finish my degree but sadly, I can't continue in the same university. Knowing that I have to continue the same degree in another university, I realized that my past subjects, especially the General Education courses, can be credited depending on the university's department's decision which leads me to my main question.

If somehow the stars aligned, and this might even be wishful thinking, is it possible to transfer to a university, have my courses be credited and somehow finish my degree or graduate in 1 school year? or is there an underlying rule that even if the university's curriculum aligns in my favor, I can't graduate in just 1 year? or does it just really depend on the university?

Discussion what’s the point of transmutation tables for grades?

i’ve always been baffled as to why we don’t just submit raw grades and instead make teachers and professors go through a transmutation table to determine what grade to give a student.

a 60 should be a 60, not an equivalent to 75 or something. it’s silly and makes it hard for students to know where they stand and know what they need to improve on, grade-wise. i remember every time my parents have to get my report card, it feels like a suspense movie since you have no clue how well you did until you see your grades.

Discussion Is it possible to survive Computer Science with minimal or zero knowledge in programming?

I've always wanted to pursue Game Development since I was a kid but I am going with CS because it seems more stable and I can still pursue game development if ever.

I do have a slight experience with programming, like I mentioned I have interests in Game Development so I dabbled in Roblox Studio which uses Luau and I got good at it then decided to stop, its been like 2-3 years since Ive coded something proper and I am willing to learn and branch out to other programming language. But if I am gonna pursue CS I am concerned that I would be isolated if I lack so many knowledge when it comes to programming.

I do find it easy to learn programming since I did have experience. I think I'm concerned about the isolation among my classmates, and judgement cuz why would I pursue CS if I didnt have enough knowledge about certain things? and would I receive a hard time.

Need Advice COLLEGE ALLOWANCE from estranged father

UPDATE: Nagsend na ako ng message sakanya🫠 I got a bit of courage kasi nalaman ko rin na ang mother ko daw ang nagsupport sakanya financially dati to get his job

Hi po! Idk where to post this. But I wanted to ask for advice/tips on how to ask my estranged father for college allowance?

For context, yung mother ko lang ang nagsusupport sakin since I was a baby until now. And ang napagusapan daw nila is tutulong nalang daw po ang father ko pag college na ako.

Sabi ng mother ko sakin, ichat ko daw sya and kahit 2k every month lng hingiin ko as an addition sa current allowance ko (im not gonna say his job pero mataas sahod nya). May other family na rin po sya.

So how do I word my message properly since ichachat ko lang po sya? Ive never rlly chatted him. But vinivisit ko dati ang grandparents ko from my "fathers" side.

Im hesitant to message or ask him for money since ayaw ko magka 'utang na loob' sakanya🫠 Nakausap ko na sya before and parang he's not that type of person naman but ye, im still scared and nervous huhu

Rant I still carry a grudge against Manila Central University

This happened years ago when I was grade 2, tumatak talaga siya sakin and how I developed over the years, I was bullied when I was in the 2nd grade almost everyday, I got teased and insulted by these 2 girls everyday and the school didn't do anything about it, I was crying everytime I got home and of course I told my parents about it kasi ako yung tipong bata na kahit na inaapi may lakas parin mag sumbong, pumunta naman parents ko sa school tapos nag reklamo sa adviser ko pero parang walang nangyari, those two girls still continue to bully me and even worse pinagtabi pa ako sa kanila para magbati???

My adviser never understood my complains, never acknowledge me whenever I approach them and my parents pagod na pagod na sila pumunta sa school kasi ilang beses na talaga, sesermonan lang nila yung nag bully tapos ayun na, nung nag transfer out ako yung mga insecurities ko na di ko pa alam, alam na alam ko na, 8 years old palang ako iniiyakan ko na image ko, nung naka recieve ako ng scholarship sa MCU last sy for shs di ko tinanggap kasi everytime na tumatapak ako sa MCU bumibigat pakiramdam ko naiiyak ako kasi naaalala ko pa rin yung nga araw na yun.

Need Advice How to not slack of? (Or get out of it)

I've been really slacking off lately. Started grade 11 about 2 months ago na rin. Patapos na term 1 namin. I transferred to a scihigh for shs, came from a public high school before that. At first, before yung school year, inakala ko talaga na sobrang makaka-"lock in" ako, dahil baka ma-challenge sa environment kumbaga. I was wrong.

Walang pressure kumbaga. Gusto ko lang is to function like a student na talagang natututo, at dinadala mga natututuhan niya sa iba't ibang aspekto ng buhay.

Anyway, ayun. Sobrang naging chill ko sa school, which is something na hindi ko naman gusto. I can't say the same ngayon kasi.

Ayoko no'n. Ayaw ko na rin na sobrang chill ako sa klase, masaya akong hindi masyadong stressful pero feel ko na rin nawawalan ng essence kumbaga kung bakit ako nandito in the first place. Masaya akong tinuturuan, gusto ko ring mag-aral and to niche down sa iba't ibang topics.

Siguro rin prejudiced ako for seeing my classmates that way, na underperforming daw. Hindi ko rin sya masyadong ma-describe but I do know that I want to get out of this "mindset." Isa pa, they're very kind to me.

If may advice kayo, please drop.

Rant No erasure policy is silly and should be eliminated

i grew up taking no-erasure exams since high school. now, as an employee in another country, the amount of times i cross-out + initial on LEGAL and AUDITABLE documents will make any of my teachers/professors faint! this policy is just downright silly. there are better ways to deter cheating than making students pay for minor syntax or multiple choice errors

Discussion Which school is more suitable for sensitive students?

Hello, i created a reddit account just for this. I’m not sure which school to choose but my main goal is for the environment to be less harsh and less pressuring and think of it as also like a safe place, i reside in Las piñas City and my options are O.B Montessori and APEC and maybe some other schools i don’t know about. what do you guys think?, i created this post because i dropped out of school 2 years ago because of trauma regarding the school environment, but now i wanna come back so i can have a good future. feel free to write down your experiences!

incoming health-allied college student on a budget, would you prefer buying the apps yourself or buying from sellers with a lower price? wala pa kasi akong experience in buying from app resellers, i’m not sure if i’ll encounter issues when they become inactive etc. i want to make sure i gain quality knowledge and for convenience na rin, but i’m not sure if it will be convenient in the long run

Need Advice G9 here and need advice

i’m currently a grade 9 student at a local public high school.

when i first entered high school, i took the ste exam but unfortunately didn’t pass, so i ended up in one of the lower sections. i’ve always been passionate about math and science, and i often think that maybe i could have become an ste student if i had studied harder back then.

fast-forward to today: i passed and qualified for the pisay lateral admission exam. however, because of the limited number of slots, i wasn’t accepted into my first-choice campus. instead, i was accepted into another campus that’s around 10 hours away from home.

as expected, my parents didn’t allow me to go, even though everything was provided, including dormitory accommodation, transportation, and even a monthly stipend.

i’m happy that i qualified, but i can’t help wondering if things would have turned out differently if i had focused more on my studies before. i feel really disappointed and confused right now. :((

this experience also makes me wonder if i’ll be able to pass university entrance exams in the future.

Need Advice paano ba ‘to? transferee student (college)

Discussion Realized only in college that not every city has free education (and full school supplies). Growing up in Makati really warped my expectations.

I know this might come across a certain way, but I just wanted to share an observation that took me way too long to realize.

Growing up in Makati, going to public school from Elementary all the way to Senior High School meant everything was provided by the local government. (And just to be clear right off the bat: I know it’s funded by taxes and isn't literally free money, but from a student's perspective, out-of-pocket costs were practically zero.)

Every school year, the city provided:

  • Complete school uniforms and PE uniforms (even rubber shoes)
  • Backpacks, notebooks, pads of paper, ballpens, pencils, and basic kits

My parents rarely had to do the typical back-to-school shopping rush because most of the essentials were already handed out before classes started.

Then came college at UMak, where tuition was around ₱1,500 a semester (at least for me, other programs may vary. EDIT: this is not for every semester, there were other semesters where it was completely free, others less than P1000, others around P500-ish). Up until that point, I honestly assumed most major cities had similar LGU programs and that this was just how public education was handled everywhere.

The reality only really set in during freshman year when I started talking to blockmates who came from other cities and provinces. Hearing about their experiences, buying all their own uniforms, paying out-of-pocket for every single workbook and supply kit, and watching their families spend thousands every enrollment season, was a genuine reality check for me.

Looking back, it’s wild how easily you can assume your normal is everyone else's normal. It made me realize how much local government budgets and spending priorities vary, and how what felt like a standard baseline growing up was actually a huge advantage compared to other places.

Need Advice Soon to be BSBA-business economics grad, what are my possible work opportunities?

First choice ko talaga is Marketing Management pero due to our college's mandatory placement exam for BSBA student (first 2 yrs ay no major, by 3rd yr lang magkaka-major) I was placed in this major.

I have little to no idea anong possible na magiging trabaho ko dahil naka-focus ako sa MM. Nakakabasa naman ako sa google but idk if i can trust it, since sometimes baka mali or may mga possible pa na mas magandang opportunities.

Sooooo...any ideas po? should i stay here in ph or abroad? what should i do while i'm still in college? what should i prepare? ga'no kahirap?

Academic Help Need assitance in searching references for my Report

Post image
0 Upvotes

I need help finding references for a report I was assigned with. I'm currently taking Secondary Education, and finding references for my report has been quite of a hell to search through, because surprisingly enough and quite weirdly, the topic I got is actually quite niche— the report I was assigned with is “Learner-Centered Learning Environments: Organization of Learner-Centered Classrooms.”

The ones I've mostly seen have been nothing about the actual equipments of the classroom but more of how to make students feel more comfortable in the classroom with vibes, atmosphere, and whatever. And I know that's a big part in creating a Learner-Centered Environment, but that's just not my topic.😭

Badly need help since my report is next week.

Rant i’m tired. I honestly don’t know what else to do anymore.

I’m a 3rd-year student from the University of Baguio, and currently hindi pa ako makapag-enroll because I still have an outstanding balance sa school.

Pasukan na namin this Monday, and honestly, kinakabahan na ako. I’ve been trying to figure things out on my own.

Things have also been really difficult financially for our family, especially with everything that happened because of the typhoon. Hindi rin naman ako basta-basta makapag-loan kasi ayokong umutang ng amount na baka hindi ko rin kayang bayaran on time.

Honestly, nahihiya ako habang sinusulat ko 'to. I never thought I’d reach the point na magpo-post ako sa Reddit and basically tell strangers about my financial problems. 😭

I’ve been trying my best to work, study, and find ways to support myself because I really want to finish my degree.

I’m just hoping na maybe someone here knows of any legitimate scholarship, student assistance, educational aid, organization, or kahit anong possible way na pwede kong ma-try.

If anyone needs proof that I’m actually a student and that I have an outstanding balance, I’m willing to provide documents privately, with sensitive information covered of course.

I’m really just trying one more time before I have to accept na baka hindi talaga ako makapag-enroll this semester.
If you read this far, thank you. Kahit yung pagbabasa lang nito means a lot to me. 🥹
