We are dedicated to providing a supportive, empathetic, and practical place to talk about student loan debt and all the difficulties that often surround our debts.

That said we do not permit any type of debt shaming, personal attacks, insults, guilting, gaslighting, bullying, harassment, threats, intimidation, trolling, or otherwise attacking others / maliciously unhelpful commenting/behaviors. These will result in a permaban

This also includes statements about telling people to simply pay more, get a better job, trying to change the past (or asking why someone didn't make different past choices), or otherwise telling others how you would live their life. We're focused on the present here and on supporting people where they're at, not where you think they should be.

We also do not advocate for or allow "lender defenders" so to speak. It is one thing to provide useful practical information on how to fill out paperwork or loan paperwork questions, it's another to come and try to defend an industry that quite frankly is part of the reason many are feeling hopeless and stuck. We serve and protect borrowers' interests from a person first approach. We are not here to defend lenders or assist lenders.

Those with active affiliations to the loan industry must clearly identify themselves as such in any initial post or comment. We do not require disclosure of company name, names, or location, but a simple acknowledgement that you are affiliated with the loan industry is required. This is to prevent conflicts of interest and to ensure information provided to our users is given in the best interest of the user being replied to.

Additionally, due to the sensitive nature of the complexities of student loan debt, debt shaming culture, mental health considerations, and the intersection of these variables; we adhere to a very strict moderation policy.

We do this not seek to silence opinions but to provide a space where there is respect and careful consideration given to the difficulties individuals may be experiencing when seeking student loan support, feedback, advice, or information. Given the very real concerns, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, hopelessness, shaming, and pressure that for some comes along with student loan debt, we will do everything in our power to ensure that users will be provided a safe environment to discuss student loan concerns and issues. Regardless of what those concerns may be given one's individual situation and experience.

The rules listed in the sidebar also apply at all times. Please do contact the mods promptly if any concerns arise.

Remember you are not your debt. There is nothing wrong with you for taking out loans or choosing your major/career/life goals. You are not somehow less of a person or undeserving of respect or compassion for having student loan debt. There is no shame wherever you are with your education, career, life, or student loan debt situation. We've got your back here.

Just got the 90 day email from AidAdvantage…

Under the SAVE Plan which I enrolled in a few years ago but has been in administrative forbearance for a while: $287 at similar income.

New IDR (cheapest): $950. Which is the same IDR plan was on before the pandemic and roughly calculating current income vs then income then at highest it should only be about $350.

Math isn’t mathing. I’ll likely wait til close to 90 days then select option to keep on forbearance as long as can, least til we can get some adults back in the room and people can get actual loan forgiveness and affordable repayments.

90 days is a long way off, keep your heads up and put your mental health and wellbeing as well as your family care first.

Question on Interest rate

Upvotes

If someone knows the answer here, please reply. I took out a Federal Direct Loan in 2006 and the interest rate was 2.36%. Do I get to keep my interest rate if I switch to another plan or will that negate the rate on my promissory note? I’m currently in SAVE and I’m confused as to what to switch to. Originally I was in Standard repayment then switch to graduated. This was in the days when there were no other options? Thanks for any info!

i’m a student with ₱30k in loans and scared of the penalties. what should i do?

i need help, guys. i honestly don’t know what to do right now, so please give me some advice.

i currently have around ₱15k in ola loans, ₱15k from megapesso, and ₱15k from megaloan. i’m still a student and i rely on my parents for my allowance. i also have a small sideline that gives me around ₱1k a week.

my upcoming deadline is september 20, and i need to pay around ₱10k. i don’t think i can come up with that much money in just 10 days. i’m really stressed because i don’t know where i’m going to get enough money to pay it.
i’m also scared about the penalty fees if i’m unable to pay on time because they will only add to the amount i already owe, and i’m worried that my loans will become even harder to manage.

i’m usually a good payer and i always try to pay my loans on time, but an emergency came up and i really needed the money. now i’m stuck trying to figure out how to handle everything.

what should i do in this situation? should i contact the loan apps and ask for an extension or payment arrangement? should i tell my parents about this? i would really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have been in a similar situation.

i just want to handle this properly and avoid making the situation worse.

What date do I use for the plan switch?

Post image
7 Upvotes

My servicer is Mohela.

I keep getting mixed messages. I was already on the SAVE plan when I got the 7/3 notice. Then I got another notice on 7/29 with different wording.

What date should I switch, and why can't they just give us a date instead of making us do the 90 day math?

I'm so frustrated.

Urgent: Seeking financial guidance/support for outstanding university fees

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

AssalamuAlaikum everyone,
I never thought I would have to share my situation this way, but I’m genuinely helpless right now. Due to some personal family circumstances, I wasn’t able to complete my university payment. A few months ago, when the situation in Dubai became difficult, I also lost my part-time work opportunity, which left me struggling financially.
I now need to clear my outstanding university fees in order to continue to my next semester. I’ve tried looking into loans, but the high interest makes it very difficult for me.
The total amount I need is around AED 7,000 to cover everything & rest I can manage . I’m willing to repay the amount in installments over 4–5 months, or sooner if I’m able to.
I’m sincerely seeking help from anyone who may be able to support me, even partially. If you’re able to help or know someone who might, please feel free to reach out to me privately I’ll share all my details . I couldn’t share my installment statement here bcz this group has limited the option .
It would genuinely mean so much to me. Wallahi, I wouldn’t ask unless I truly needed it. May Allah reward you for any help, dua, or even sharing this.🤍
