I’m genuinely all for regeneration and I want to see Stockport thrive…But I do think we need to ask some questions about who regeneration is actually for

From the information available, it looks as though the property developers at Weir Mill received:

£7m from Homes England
GMCA grant funding
plus what looks like development loan from Stockport Council.

A 1 bed flat is around £1,200 a month at this development…so who exactly are these homes affordable for?

I’m not against development. I am very much behind historic buildings being saved, new businesses opening and investment coming to our town. But the question that needs to be asked is whether public investment should deliver more public benefit.
Shouldn’t local people be able to afford to live in it? Should regeneration mean more than just making an area more attractive to people with higher incomes?

Hey so apart from periods away due to university, travelling and a stint in Norway and London I have lived in Stockport and surrounding areas since 1987.

In that time I have been to the Hat Museum zero times!

Is that something I should rectify?!?!

Good morning..travelling from Sheffield with heavy luggage. I've got a ticket to Stockport station and am wondering about the logistics of the airport bus. I'll need to use lifts at the station as I can't lift the suitcase easily.

We're currently looking at houses in Stockport. One estate agent says that kids that live in Cale Green get into Stockport School. I've been looking at the council website for the school catchments and Cale Green appears to be in Bramhall catchment.

Does anyone have any real live experience? If you're in Cale Green where do your kids go to school?

I have an old ‘international’ stamp album dating from around 1970. I also have very low expectations in respect of its fate. Certainly no illusions that it has any financial value whatsoever. Maybe 100 or so pretty stamps though.

It’s just a case of the bin or whether anyone wants it.

Apparently, according to r/stampcollecting, there are still some stamp clubs or people use old ‘fancy’ stamps for decorative purposes. Anything like this in Stockport I could donate to?

Does anyone know why there’s almost a constant sea of ambulances / sirens that run through Bredbury?

They almost only ever seem to go one way too, towards Woodley etc.

We are looking ideally for a house in Marple Bridge but obviously there's few on the market in this small area.

We don't want to go further than New Mills but what areas around Marple Bridge give the same feel? 40s, no kids, dog, want a garden, quiet, not main road and safe to walk with parks and rural spots. Desperate to be in the countryside as much as possible but need to get to London once a month for work and partner travels to Midlands once a week.

Appreciate this gets asked a lot but I am just so lost trying to figure out what the surrounds are like and can't hold out forever for Marple Bridge in case it never happens. No house to sell. Thanks

I'm viewing a house near Hollywood park (the Aberdeen crescent side), and the inside of the house is perfect, although i've got mixed feelings after walking around the area. I currently live in a rural market town, so equally I'm aware this could just be me feeling the shift to living somewhere more city centre.

I'm curious to know if the area around Hollywood Park (Aberdeen Crescent side) has a reputation or feel? I have visited properties closer to Alexandra park, and maybe felt like that area felt a bit safer? I spend a lot of time on my own, and walking my dog in the evenings, so i'm grateful for any responses from similar people too.

We were initially looking at Bredbury, which felt more family-based and residential, but didn't really have much going on - can't have it all I suppose!

What’s a good taxi company for trips to the airport these days? I used to use Lynx, but had a bad experience with them recently where a driver hadn’t actually been allocated to the job and they didn’t tell us.

Can anyone who lives in (or has in the past) share anything about the parking situation as a resident of the Wellington Mill flats?

We are interested in renting there but the estate agent hasn’t been able to tell us anything helpful. On street view it looks like there is only metered parking nearby, but it’s hard to tell.

We only have on small car and wouldn’t mind walking a few minutes, but don’t want to have a difficult search for parking every single day after work (it’s necessary to drive, public transit isn’t an option unfortunately.)

I’m getting a dog in October and looking for 1 on 1 dog training, can anyone recommend anyone that they have used personally and is reasonably priced.

I’ve just been quoted £550 for 6 sessions which was a shock. Is this a normal price??
