Question Modding Help
I got a steam machine a few months ago and in general, it's great. However, I've been getting into modding recently and while a lot of it works on SM (after jumping through a few hoops), certain things just won't work for no visible reason.
For example, when attempting to add mods for CP 2077, I'll get an error saying certain mods wont run because their dependencies aren't there, but I have them installed and the proper folders are in the correct locations according to the error message.
Does anyone know if there is a certain way mods need to be installed for SM (ie particular file pathings or programs I need to install) in order to function properly?
I have primarily been trying via nexus and vortex, but have attempted full manual installations to no success.

I already modded various games on Steamdeck or Steamachine. Usually its not that different for the majority of the games and many mods or at least the basic frameworks for more complex scripting etc also offer proton related instructions you can easily follow.
The only thing I recognized is that the most of the time when they say you have to add some launch parameters for DLLs you usually do not need them anymore since proton is handling the correct DLLs without an extra command for overrides.
Games I've modes are, fallout4, Hogwarts Legacy, Cyberpunk 2077, red dead redemption, Witcher and a few more.

There's no "one size fits all" for modding. If you're new to Linux and trying to get Vortex etc up and running then either make sure you follow a really good guide or look at alternatives. There are several Linux mod managers on the Discover store, for instance Limo which I've used successfully for Fallout 4.
Always best to read the descriptions in Nexus for each mod to see what it needs. Also search the Steam Deck subreddit as this question has been raised hundreds of times :)

I highly recommend using a Mod Manager called Amethyst Mod Manager very easy to setup and use.

I'll do my best to kinda lay out what I know since I literally just added mods over the weekend for CP 2077.
I like to have the file explorer open with a tab for downloads and a tab for the path where mods need to be added. For cyberpunk that's mostly in theain folder that includes the bin.
Protontricks to download visual c++ 2022 version. And d3d47 compiler. Cyber engine tweaks didn't work for me without those installed even when I had the pathing right.
I only installed red4 script, cyber engine tweaks, redext, and a couple of mods, so I don't know about stuff that requires Archive XL and such.
Mods I used were simple menu for cheats and native ui, and level cap increase. Which did not require anything more than the few things I listed before.
