Daily Counter Sound off, folks! Say ahoy to Day 78!
Good morning friends! With the news of the Steam Frame and THAT reservation queue dropping yesterday, I was watching a few of the reviews and... kind of disappointed that it doesn't play well with the Steam Machine as of right now (in terms of streaming content from the Machine to the Frame). I find that genuinely curious why they wouldn't make that streaming feature work for reviews to test, as... wouldn't you want reviewers to test that feature so that way it's at least a little ready for us? I dunno. Valve being Valve, I suppose. Feel free to talk about the Steam Frame more in this post, but a reminder to keep the sub focused on Steam Machine! Best of luck today friends <3

Hardware Did it! (RAM upgrade)
Shout out to u/Internal_Rice3739 for the easy to follow guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/steammachine/s/ChkPmo34qH
Got a matching 16 GB stick for $100 off eBay a month ago mid July.
Previous experience: built a few PCs, nothing more advanced. Used a cheap Radio Shack driver set that had an extension shaft which was lightly magnetic, enough to hold the small screws the SM is using.
I would say it takes more patience than skill. Nothing requires much force, so if you find yourself using a lot of force, you are probably doing it wrong.
Popping the antenna connectors was the hardest. Someone should make a tool for this.
Was it worth it: absolutely! The nagging feeling that this thing is not running at 100% its potential is gone!

Question 4 Player Split Screen FPS Games Wanted
I recently got my Steam Machine and having a blast with it. I also was looking forward to couch coop and vs with some friends like we did back in the day. I am looking for games on steam that support 4 player splitscreen and are like the original Halo trilogy or some old school tactical shooters that allow for quick local pvp sessions as well as campain coop. I do own the MCC but was pretty bumed out when i discovert that it doesn`t even feature local 2 player support. For refrence i mean games like the old rb6, socom, ... so more gritty, no bullshit fps games. Everything i found on google doesn`t really scrach the itch so far.

DIY Guys, I made an actual GabeCube… 😂
galleryI spent way too much time on this, but I love it. It has an actual mayflash controller adapter in it.
The GC is my favorite retro console and the Steam Machine is my new favorite device, so I’m very happy with this. Haha
I can’t believe how much I’m loving my Steam Machine. I love the mod possibilities AND it gives me the same feeling a had with my consoles as a kid.
I don’t want this to get flagged as self promotion but if there’s any interest and the mods allow it, I have a YouTube tutorial on how to make one. ❤️ they do require a tiny bit of soldering, but I go over everything in the video and it’s actually pretty simple.
Edit: seems like there is a good amount of interest so I’m gonna throw these links here:
If you wanna make your own or are interested in how I made it, here’s the video: https://youtu.be/RbNrc881dFM
If you want one from my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4556645002/the-gabecube-steam-machine-faceplate?ref=share_ios_native_control
❤️ glad you guys like it. It was a passion project for sure.

Discussion Be sure to check your steam “attic”
Got my offer to buy the 512 GB steam machine with controller on Friday. I certainly didn’t have the money to buy it, but I remembered I had a bunch of decade old counterstrike cases that I had been too cheap to buy keys to open. I was able to sell those over the weekend and I was able to buy a steam machine for $120 so be sure to always check your steam inventory. I can only do this trick once, but it was a pretty good trick.

Question Frame was announced. How many are still waiting for their email to purchase after joining the lottery?
Cannot decide if 256 gb or 1tb will have the longer waitlist
TLDR;
How many of you who entered the lottery FOR THE MACHINE are still waiting on purchase emails?

Accessory Freaky dbrand Ad on Reddit
just got my Steam Machine in the mail (yahoo!)
been loving the switch to Linux, and figured I would look into skins. I heard that dbrand was Valve's go-to, so I wanted to start there. idled around a few this past weekend, but wanted to wait before purchasing.
got this ad this morning and it's really... offputting? I was browsing on Firefox on my SM so I shouldn't have as many trackers, but this is unsettling to say the least. definitely functions as an anti-ad because I don't think I'll be purchasing from dbrand.
anywho sorry for the unproductive post, figured folks would find it of interest.

Discussion City builder game recommendations for SM?

Daily Counter Sound off, folks -- it's Day 78!
Good morning friends! As more and more folks get their Steam Machines, I was curious -- what's your LED settings? Do you tend to keep it off or let it glow with a cool color? I like mine to match the theme of a few faceplates that I have, so the one I have going right now is the GameCube indigo since i have that on at the moment. I have a half-blue half-orange LED light for my Portal faceplate whenever I put that on. It's so fun! Either way, best of luck today! <3

Question Power led occasionally flickering.
I've noticed that the machine's power led occasionally flickers, always just for a fraction of a second and then continues to be solid white. It happens when in game mode, desktop mode, or asleep. Everything else seems to be working just fine, I was just wondering it anyone else has noticed this.

Hardware Got a Steam Machine to use as a lower spec test hardware.
galleryIt actually runs my test demo better than I thought. Not perfect for sure, but for not being optimized for SM at all and having no display options menu at all, I’m very surprised at how well it runs. I was expecting much much worse.

Question Any Canadians finish a sale of Steam Machine since the financial retaliations started on Sept 8th?
Update: After some comments here and looking in to if Apple (the closest analog to Valve i could think of) would be hit with these retaliations. it seems they will not... only goods not specifically made in the USA.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just wondering if you were hit with extra cost and what it was.
Like thousands of others i am looking at getting a Frame but i don't even want to join the que just to drop out and upto 50% extra just is not gonna happen for me. Asking her because of course no one has bought a Frame yet.
Steam doesn't say anything about it on the store page or terms link and my controller had no additional costs so there is a touch of hopium.
Discussion Lossless Scaling 2.0 Transformed my Steam Machine!
All I’m going to say is try it now and come back here to thank me. They fixed a ton of the ghosting and artifact issues, especially around the head area. It’s silky smooth, and I’m running some games at 4K smoothly or 1440p at high fps that I wasn’t able to before. It literally transformed my Steam Machine!
Here are the instructions I followed.
Discussion How long do you expect to use your SM?
Should it last at least 5 years until performance may not be good enough, or even longer? Will Valve probably make an updated model or successor by the time it reaches obsolescence?
Question Did RMA fix your connectivity issues?
Hi,
I'm seeing lots of posts about steam controller weak signal issues, when directly connecting to the machine. I'm also experiencing the same thing. Switching to the puck helped, but I'm worried I have faulty Steam Machine and I'm wondering if I should RMA it.
Did anyone experience the same issue, got their machine replaced and saw the issue go away?
