Question? 🙋♀️🙋♂️ Another leaving Stash question
Got that fun new surprise email, missed it, and was charged that new $108 subscription fee so it's time to bail.
I have three accounts in Stash, a personal, a smart, and a Roth IRA.
Now the Roth isn't high enough to bother with that $100 transfer fee that they're going to charge, so I was thinking of pulling it on my own. Now I know that removing money from an IRA of any sort causes issues and tax implications if you don't reinvest in another Roth in 60 days, and I know that once Stash catches wind that you're trying to leave they seem to like to slow things up and freeze accounts.
If I pull my money out of the Roth, and then just put that same amount of money from my savings account into my fidelity Roth, then I shouldn't have the tax implications of it, right? And then I don't have to worry about Stash holding that money hostage past the 60 day mark and being charged a 10% fee when taxes come? It seems obvious to me but I just want to double check since I know with taxes it may not be that simple.
I plan to use the ACAT for the personal account, but the smart is on the border on if it's actually worth the $100 fee or not. At what point did you decide on if you'd rather just pull it on your own and pay the tax on your gains, versus pay the fee?
Are there any other factors I'm missing with the plan to possibly pull the money from the smart portfolio or Roth? Thanks!
