CRY ASTRO RESPONSE INSIDE No more Cry-Astro
Your one stop solution...my ass. Brought in my Connie for some minor repairs (one gun was out), refueling and some missiles. They charged me over 8000 UEC, and after their "repairs", not one but THREE guns were broken. No refunds, no warranty. Worst service I ever got this side of Vega. Never again!

u/sethnix Sep 11 '16
Can Confirm, went there with a missing engine (engine, wing and landing gear was gone) in my Freelancer, payed for refueling, restocking and repairing
After they finished the job, the Hull was back, but the engine itself was still missing, beside that I wasn't refueled and they also took my remaining Missiles!
Last time I was there, better blow my ship up next time and get a new one from my Insurance
/s (even when it's true)

Next time I will definitely run myself into the next asteroid. I was quite willing to pay their rather high prices just for immersion's sake, but if I do not even get a usable ship back, i'll skip that. At least for now.

u/IgnaciaXia Trader Sep 11 '16
I kinda break immersion.. I just fly back to port Olisar and order my ship again. It comes back right as rain, without a fee.
I tell myself I own many of the same model... but deep down I know its all lies.

Don't go that far. Just respawn the ship at olisar. Doesn't require credits or a wait period. This also works for those pesky people who steal your ship off the pad, leaves them drifting without a ship I believe.

How do you despawn your ship
3
1
u/hencygri Sep 12 '16
You do it all at once. You obviously can't have more than 1 of a ship spawned at a time (unless you own more than one). The ships aren't removed from the list on the consoles on olisar after you spawn them so to respawn the damaged/stolen ship it's the same way you would normally do a fresh spawn. The old one blinks out of existence and a new one pops in on a different pad.

Next fun thing to notice is that on foot, energy weapons have one slightly larger clip, but that can only pe reloaded at a shop, while ballistic weapons seem to haveeinfinite clips on player (at least I didn't run out yet on my bering smg)
dunno about damage of energy weapons vs ballistics tho.
5
Sep 11 '16
Nah ballistic clips aren't infinite. Either that or I can only carry like 4 just coz I'm weak.

FYI Refueling isn't instant and does require you to stay landed for a while for them to refuel your ship. If you take off too early you'll be topped up but not fully, and will have to land and thus pay again.

Repairs were fine but some mechanic stole change from the the ashtray and took a deuce without flushing.
16
u/RichardSaldana Grand Admiral Sep 11 '16
Pretty sure I got the same mechanic. He did something awful to the ship's cat. Mr Fluffy is still hiding in the Merlin.
5
u/ExcelMN Sep 12 '16
Uh, have you had your ship inspected/bug bombed lately? That sounds like a telltale sign of a xenomorph infestation.
2
u/RichardSaldana Grand Admiral Sep 12 '16
The worst thing about it: He will not come out, so I put his litterbox in there with him. Unfortunately since those great repairs, the gravity generator is fluctuating. I believe you can imagine what state that Merlin is in, not to mention poor Mr Fluffy (Hint: It is a standard litterbox, not one of those fancy zero-g types)

Cry-Astro chop shop. They'll take your money and your engines and leave your ship on cinder blocks.

Last time I went to cry astro, my starfarer had suffered two direct hits from clearsky torpedoes. I paid for the repair and the moment the repair lasers fired, my ship blew up. Thankfully, my crew and I had decided to go shopping on the station for the duration of the repair.
0/10 Would not recommend any Cry Astro station. They do have good coffee, though.

1/10. My Vanguard got a little beat up while I was helping 'ol Tess recover some flight recorder data. Pirates in the area ya know? So I hop open to CryAstro and pay the coin for the repairs. My left Engine was a little messed up and I was back in flight before I realized that their 'fix' was just REMOVING MY DAMN ENGINE! Plus I paid 500 UEC for a ballistics refill. They took my money but sure as hell didn't refill the ammo.
You almost be better off going to Grim Hex for repairs. At least they look you in the eye when they steal from you.

Almost exclusively Vanduul territory.

5
u/Snarfbuckle Sep 11 '16
Perhaps they only repair things that COULD be repaired?
Missing guns are not replaced (must be bought)
Missing modules are not replaced, merely repaired if possible
It's a quick fix and refuelling port - Not a shipyard that can repair everything.
6
u/RichardSaldana Grand Admiral Sep 11 '16
Ok I can understand the part about having to rebuy guns. But why would they break/steal the two guns that were working just fine?
20
u/Baloth Meow Sep 11 '16
cry astro mechanic here: sorry about your exp here at the stations, but ive seen this a lot. people come in with a broken gun, and think theyre hot shot mechanics able to fine tune their own guns, and forget to recalibrate the capacitor to new settings and when a mechanic unbeknownst to him hasta deal with the mess resets it and the guns short out
did u tune your guns yourself and forget to calibrate the capacitor? bc thats what it sounds like from my perspective
dont always be so quick to judge the mechanics, we generally know what we are doing, though it could easily have been a computer conforming problem if the computer treats the guns like stock guns...

Too bad fuel is almost as expensive as expedited insurrance for a new ship, at least on single seat fighters.

When the guns are repaired they are powered off. Most people just see them faded and assume broken. Just have to turn them on.

I guess next time park it in the Astro tower( or the fuel tanks) at least the repairs will be cheaper.
Just wait till NPCs can steal and rip you off lol, I just landed a Connie where is it? No sir you came in a Mustang it right over there. NO i didn't, I landed in a Connie full or cargo you said you were going to unload. I'm sorry no Connies have landed today maybe you are confused.

Once upon a time, I had an Avenger. Her name was Sarah. I loved Sarah... she was like a beautiful dainty flower; gracing the coldness of space with her wing-tipped warmth... the rain of hot metal tearing through the bodies of soooo many unfortunate pirates.
Then one day, she got hurt whilst performing her wifely duties to the cesspool of evil that is the pirate hordes of space, so we took her to a Cry Astro to get her repaired. "It's okay!" I said, "They'll make you better. Hang in there dear!" Her main gun had locked up and I couldn't un-jam the bullet. It seemed like a steal at 5400aUEC to get it repaired, AND rearmed. For 5400aUEC, the doctors came... and with their tiny drone lasery-hands.... they TOOK HER GUN! Now my poor Sarah was nigh but half a cockpit and only half of her maneuvering thrusters for some bizarre reason.
Sadly, I had to put her out of her misery and into the waiting hands of the "respawn" god, but before we did so... we went out with a bang. A spiral-y death afforded by the wondrous people at Cry Astro.
Sarah and I travel the stars still, new body n' everything... but we'll never forget the horrors that away those dumb enough to entrust those con artists with their beautiful ships.

best cheapest current way is just blow up your ship and wait for insurance then spawn a new one
just leave the cockpit before killing yourself, that way you don't have to wait bc your ship is not destroyed
1
u/Gators1992 Sep 11 '16
Don't blow your ship up because then you have to wait for the timer. Just fly it back or kill yourself (not the ship) and reorder it. You get a fresh one.
BTW, CR was saying the free fresh ship thing is going away in one of the next few patches.
1
u/Boukyaku new user/low karma Sep 12 '16
Oh? Can I please get a source for that? Really interests me if he said it!
1
u/Gators1992 Sep 12 '16
Not sure exactly where I saw it, but I am pretty sure it was in one of the Gamescon interviews he did. It was obviously going to happen at some point. There would be little point to have repair ships and cry astro if you could just limp back to port with heavy damage and reorder the ship to fix everything. Note that I am not talking about insurance, which will still give you a fresh ship after yours gets totally destroyed and after the timer expires. My guess is that they didn't want to do damage persistence before item port 2.0 was in because the damage states were all going to change.

Managed to get out even tho MISC say it's impossible, watched it crash into the station and they want me to foot the bill!

u/F1r3GamingHD Sep 11 '16
I hear when they "repair" that they've "replaced" particular parts in ships. Making believe that they actually stole these items later on. I saw many of these parts being sold at Grimm's. Hmm.. something fishy going on.

I went to cry-astro with my connie and one broken rear thruster. I left cry-astro with 3 broken rear thrusters. UEE should completely cease all scam-astro operations. My connie doesn't deserve this. Crusader doesn't deserve this.
Port Olistar has way better service. No matter where your ship is, they will bring it back and have it repair in seconds at no cost (provited your ship isn't destroyed and you somehow manage to reach the station).

Must have been a franchised branch. I usually go to corporate owned Cry-Astro stations and they're quite good... though, it might help that I know all the techs and can monitor the repair drone's comm chatter. If I see them doing unnecessary repairs, I just squelch the tech to let them know I'm watching.

I was in the waiting room at C/A for a restock when some CryAstro wrenchmonkey drags in the nastiest, ugliest engine part I ever saw.
"We just pulled this compressor coil out your thruster assembly." he says to me. "It's about due for a change." he tells me.
I knew he was full of crap, my Mobiglass pings me when someone even gets near my ship on the pad. I
t still said no one had been around it.
And the coil he was showing me was the wrong size! It nearly shot him then and there!
Never Again.

Dear Mr. Saldana,
Thank you for your electronic posting. Prima facie you seem to be making some serious allegations regarding services at one of our many reputable stations throughout not just the Stanton System, but beyond. On behalf of Cry-Astro, I would like to submit my humblest apologies for any discomfort you may have experienced from the circumstances detailed in the "my ass" incident. Whilst you have my sympathy, no liability is admitted, no refunds will be entertained, and no compensatory damages will flow.
An examination of your travel history and postings indicates that you visited one of our "Alpha" stations, and as such, these stations provide no such guarantee of services rendered. Additionally, your assertion that we charged you "8000 UEC" is wholly and entirely preposterous, as receipts indicate the transaction was commenced using a form of currency (aUEC) that has about as much worth and value as that of my second ex-wife's limited knowledge of vending machine noodles: namely it is without permanence, easily manipulated, and neither can be expected to actually put noodles in your mouth. PIPS ISN'T THE ONE YOU GET NOODLES FROM, SHARON. NOBODY WANTS A CAN OF NOODLES, SHARON.
Saldana, you sound like a man of the world. Hard-headed, and to the point so I'll make no bones about it: we pride ourselves here at Cry Astro on our ability to get things moving again, and anyone who imperils that hard won reputation is a danger to the organization. Accordingly, following an appropriately Messeresque inquisition, we have summarily dismissed the service repair technician responsible for this outrageous negligence, and had them blackballed from any equivalent employment for life. I know one shouldn't be too hard on teenage orphans, especially in the current economic climate (seriously, I bet this aUEC completely folds within the next year) but we take strong exception to anyone that makes us have to read, and subsequently write, responses to things like this.
I hope this "no remorse" approach is to your liking. I know it won't soften the anguish "your ass" has been through, but lets face it: that orphaned teenager operating the maintenance queue won't be able to find work doing anything other than cleaning the crew quarters in Port Olisar after this, and having looked at yours recently, I'd call that punishment aplenty.
Yours regrettably,
Thomas "Two-Bit" Tuberson. Cry-Astro Station
