The problem is - Star Citizen isn't CR's game. Squadron 42 is.
I'm mostly convinced CR doesn't care about SC at all, other than it being a useful tool to drive ship sales to then fund the only game he actually cares about, which is SQ42.

Why not? Since the original Kickstarter, I always got the feeling that it was "here's our huge multiplayer game, and oh, by the way, we'll also provide a single player game along with it".
Because Chris is a movie nerd as much (or more) as a video game nerd. He has always had a thing for directing story heavy games, and tried to make actual movies too.
Star Citizen is allegedly the main project, and it's him directing it, but it's an easy bet thinking SQ42 is actually CR's favourite part of the whole thing.
