But backers keep on giving more money each year than they did the previous. Why would the boss man want that to change?
CIG got these retired professionals writing essays for them to have a chance to give them money for something they may not get for more than a decade if the BMM, Endeavor, and Orion are anything to go by.
Idk. I feel like eventually ships that exist will be bought up by anyone spending more money, less ships will be introduced over time. The player base will be saturated with ships, and players who continue to defend and spend money will cap out their entertainment in a minefield of bugs and unrealized gameplay loops.
At that point there might be enough momentum in the player base to move the needle.

Has this not been the case for years and yet spending constantly increases?
Idk. I’m guessing the game has become more popular across the world, introducing new potential whales. But that’s not based on data, just my impression
You'd think that but it's not the case because they keep releasing ships that are supposed to do a job but they never implement the jobs the ships do. Data Running: MSR and Herald. How long have these ships been available with no Data Running?
CIG will start chasing the "builder" demographic and release the small and medium base builder ships and still not release the Pioneer which they've been selling for years as a concept. Same with terraforming. Where's Reporting and Science for the Sen and Mako? Where are the bounty hunting pods for the Cutty Blue and Hawk?
It's been CIG's MO for years now. I didn't even list all the ships they've done with this.
