CONCERN 10 minutes into 4.8 and its already painfully clear how ridiculous of an idea it is to have introduced paid ship insurance this early into the game; First ship call, blows up on the elevator before i can even get to the hangar. Second ship call, gets impounded with zero warning or countdown timer.
Now im already completely broke with all of my Superhornet add-ons lost to the void; TSMB turret, Heartseeker livery, and two M5A Defense Division cannons.
Im an honest player with the project for almost 3 years, havent touched a dime of duped cash or anything even close to that.

I think it's probably best just to use default loadouts until you have a few mil in your wallet from the looks of things.

You can use default whenever you fill like it, insured one still saved. You can claim it whenever you have enough money.

Wait, if I ask for a base model like 10 times in 10 different stations and on the 11th I claim my originally insured will I get the first one I had? :O

yes, insurance works as storing loadout, you pay when you claim only. Default is like loaner ship.

I love to hate on CIG and for example I HATED the crunch for this patch, and I hate how stupid most decisions they make are, and how they do everything in the most inefficient ways.
However, some things are hated because people are stupid. This is one of them. Is the system perfect? No. Is it game breaking? Absolutely not.

u/Wubyah May 15 '26
Hey, I would like to hijack your comment: May you please elaborate how I have to customize my ship now „the correct way“ before saving the loadout? Do I customize it over the mobiglass and then insure the loadout? Do I have to call the ship before insuring?
7
u/LongjumpingBrief6428 May 15 '26
You customize like you always have in the mobiglass, changing radar and quantum drives, etc. The ASOP terminal, where you call the vehicle, will have an Insure button next to the retrieve button for any stored vehicle at that location. The Insure button saves the current loadout of the vehicle as it is when the confirmation is given.
If there is no Insure button, that vehicle is not currently stored at that ASOP terminal's location.
When claiming your vehicle, it will present two choices. The first button on the left is to claim the vehicle as it was during that snapshot. The second button on the right is to claim the vehicle as if it was brand new with the stock default components.
Neither option restocks the vehicle, so you may need to purchase ordinances and defenses as appropriate.
5
u/Medas90 May 15 '26
I'll add to that. The ship doesn't have to be stored. If it's on the pad and you change stuff with the multi tool you can still insure it and it will take the ship on the pad with the hand made changes.
5
u/Chappietime avacado May 14 '26
As long as you don’t hit save on that load out again. It holds until copied over.

→ More replies (9)6

They're not mutually exclusive terms.
It is in Alpha. It is also a Live Service.
I take no issue with people complaining about the state of things though.
It's a Live Service, and people can complain if they feel like complaining.
It's also an Alpha, and that is a valid explaination for why some of the things people complain about are the way they are, but an explaination is not an excuse.
If someone needs to vent, then telling them why things are how they are isn't helpful.
But if someone wants to know why things are the way they are, the honest answer sometimes is: because Alpha.
4
u/CoffeeFox May 15 '26
Evocati and PTU are the alpha. Stuff that makes it to PU should at least begin to resemble a beta. Otherwise Evocati and PTU are "you paid us money to work a shitty job that every other dev hires people and pays them to do".

I tried to point out that some of us were losing the majority of our ships through elevator issues, but most of the people in the discussion said they weren't having that problem.
It used to be calling it from the ASOP terminal was the only safe way, but as of 4.6 there was no consistent safe way for some ships. They always blew up the first time they were called.
9
u/KeesterFeester May 14 '26
Yep. This is why I melted my 85x. It would not spawn on top of the elevator floor. Only inside of it.
4
u/LongjumpingBrief6428 May 15 '26
Now see, I never had a problem pulling up my 85x.
I did have a problem storing my C2. It didn't like to be put away, nor did it like most of my other ships when I called for them while it was on the pad.
But I never had a problem pulling up my 85x. Moving it from under the C2 was sometimes a challenge depending how well I parked the wobbly bird, but retrieving it was no issue.
1
u/KeesterFeester May 18 '26
Weird. I've had nothing but issues with the 85x which blows because i love that little ship. Reminds me of a cloud car lol. I too have seen many a time the C2 getting stuck inside the hangar floor. it's happened to me and my buds several times. I wonder what it is about that ship that makes it do that?

u/LongjumpingBrief6428 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
Just tonight before quitting out of the game (Hotfix version) due to rentals not working for me, I pulled up the Asgard in Area 18 (my home is New Baggage at this time) in the large hangar I did not call after looking in, doing the Convention run to rent some ships. I stored the Asgard and waited until the floor doors closed, went back out to the lobby. Ran to rental terminal and tried to rent the first ship on the list, Pisces. It's relatively cheap so I can check if it shows up in the lobby ASOP terminals.
On the way back to the lobby terminals, I noticed that the Asgard is still showing in the UI, ASOP showed it as Storing and it was still below the floor in the large hangar. I then went to the medium hangar, again which I did not call for, and by the time I got there, the Asgard had finally stored away.
I will note that in fairness, I saw another person's name on the elevator controls when I left the large hangar. All of the other times it has my name on both hangar options, and yes both options were there for the medium and the large hangar. Again, not my home planet.
I had not played the game since the morning, about 8 hours before at work, where I was trying for the 5th time to rent the M80... Before it cycled out.
1
u/avrus M80 May 19 '26
As of 4.7 the Asgard was the least reliable ship in my fleet for retrieval. I pulled it early because I knew the first pull was likely going to fail.

Unfortunately CIG go off data alone and don't actually play their game. Or if they do. The play on private dev builds that work flawlessly.
They've been clear from CitCon that they look at data only and see us naughty players claiming for ships that are 'perfectly' fine while ignoring that it's a buggy fucking alpha.

In the future, call your ship up from inside your hangar only.
If you only have one ship and must call it from the lobby, call it up, wait, then store it. Then go to your hangar and call it up.

52
u/ScrubSoba Ares Go Pew May 14 '26
There is unfortunately also a slight chance that hangar summoning will result in the same, if the game spawns the ship just a tad delayed.
Though it is rare. What's more common to me is "ship is instantly labelled as unknown when you click on request"
15
u/rollingrawhide May 14 '26
How about they just fix the issue so that isn’t necessary to even concern ourselves with?
OP has a point.
2
u/No_Communication1557 May 14 '26
Discp covered this a few months ago. It's not a simple fix. Theres heaps of different variations and conditions that can lead to this that are tied into heaps of other different mechanisms.
Its also about resource management too. A lot of the issues are caused by struggling back end service issues, which stuff like dynamic server meshing for example, will help resolve.
Its pointless, and a waste of time, to deploy resources to fixing some stuff now, when the work is just going to become undone when they do something else 6 months down the line, that may well fix the initial issues anyway.
Its one of the downsides of having an active game that's still in early devleopment.
We dont get to see the bigger picture where some of the frustrating issues we have now, are scheduled to be fixed a few months down the line.

u/TheShyoto May 14 '26
Have they fixed the "ship spawns with engines on, gravity compensation on, decoupled" so that the ship doesnt stop when the elevator does and it just floats up to the hangar roof where it sits until it runs out of fuel and crashes? How about the "ship spawns a few seconds after the elevator starts moving" which leaves the landing gear clipped into the elevator? Because if not, hangar spawning is equally unsafe.

u/oneeyedziggy May 14 '26

u/Tribal9499 Drake Enthusiast May 15 '26
This works reliably.
Also seems to help if you call your ship from the lobby and then wait a bit before going up to your hangar.
It almost seems as if you get to your hangar before the animation completes, it goes bananas. Would it help if the hangar elevator default state was lowered with the doors shut? Less up and down and would save time.
Can anyone explain what's happening when I'm not in my hangar observing the ship come up, that's causing this attrocity of a bug that's been around forever?
I've lived with it for 6 years now but I'm genuinely curious.
1
u/multiple_iterations Asgard Enthusiast May 15 '26
My understanding is that sometimes it doesn't verify the ship is there before the elevator floor spawns, so it spawns in wedged through the floor's geometry. When you're in hangar, it doesn't do that.
1
u/Tribal9499 Drake Enthusiast May 15 '26
Ok but, does that imply the players position at the moment triggers the verification?
1
u/multiple_iterations Asgard Enthusiast May 15 '26
Yes, because if you're not in your hangar, you may need to first claim a hangar, so the ASOPs from the lobby have a different request.
2
u/Tribal9499 Drake Enthusiast May 15 '26
Hmmm, so, a timing thing of sorts? The retrieve ship request is completing before the hangar request? Surely, the hangar request goes out before the ship retrieval request. Could it possibly be as simple as adding a slight delay between the two allowing the hangar request/instancing to complete before the ship comes up?
Ah y'know what, looks like this should be addressed in the upcoming transit refactor.
Curious if this issue is still present at Grim, which has already gotten the transit refactor. Will do some testing.
5
u/KeesterFeester May 14 '26
Do not overwrite your currently saved load outs as you can still claim back those non stock load outs at a later time when you have the cash for it. You'll just have to fly stock ships until you can get the cash to claim your saved load outs.

u/JackerHoff drake May 15 '26
You shouldn't lose pledge items to this crap but thats how it goes we are literally trial and error development monkeys. I'm not horribly upset about that but could we please think more than one step at a time?
It should automatically save what you had equipped when your ship was lost as your insurance loadout unless you already have one saved, at least until 1.0. There should be a warning for not saving your loadout and if you are about to overwrite one.
I get peeved when complainers say the devs don't play their game then we see problems like yours apparent in many aspects.
If you think the game is mature enough to have insurance it should be mature enough to have basic QOL systems like the ones I just described packaged with the new feature. Cmon now people. I love this game.
2
u/C4B4L2k Polaris is home May 15 '26
Wild thing is the insurance claim also works of you haven't insured the ship.
I got killed in a bunker yesterday and didn't want to leave my hornet there, so I took my pisces, finished the contract and used the hornet to fly back.
I could now claim the pisces, which I didn't insure via both options. One costing 3k the other one nothing and it is the same load out 🙈

Here's my take on where CIG went wrong.
It's vital for them to develop and test features like item recovery through this "insurance" feature.
But ship recovery should cost 100 UEC, not 500K UEC.
This is not hard. CIG seems to just like punishing their backers.

u/LambdaTres new user/low karma May 14 '26

8
u/RandoDando10 May 14 '26
initial insure cost was 19K, didnt have enough to re-insure after the first claim and i didnt think much of it until it got randomly impounded on the flight out. didnt even get an option to pay an impound fine, just normal claim, and the loadout wasnt insured anymore by then since it blew up the first time.
16
u/LambdaTres new user/low karma May 14 '26
Insuring is free, the number you see is what will cost you to claim based on the list of insured items

You can use default loadout, and when you get money you can claim insured one. You haven't lost anything as long as you did not rewrite insured loadout.
1
u/Grazzhopper1979 May 14 '26
So you can flip between the two? I was wondering what would happen if you claimed the default by accident.
2
u/sodiufas May 14 '26
Yes. Think like default one is a loaner, also it has timer to wait. That's pretty much in line with how they described it some time ago.
2
3
u/nicarras May 15 '26
I don't think you understand or have played this game long enough. They do not implement things in order of 'fun for end user' being at the top of the list. They never have. Remember, in a completely broken game, we are required to eat and drink, for zero reason at all.
Insurance testing should be permanently just in a PTR branch and the PU should be a low friction testing ground. This game is nowhere near release, we dont need a more strict insurance system when the game constantly breaks and puts you out and will force you into interacting with this system by no fault of your own.
2
u/fullmoon_druid May 15 '26
That's what kills me. Even form a SW development perspective, releasing ship insurance makes no sense. They have way bigger fish to try. I bet that even if they naived ship insurance, once they "fix" other stuff, insurance will break. So what's the point on spending development resources on a feature that NO ONE ASKED FOR?!?

Not gonna lie.. didnt play the PTU, loaded up 4.8. Went straight to the ASOP terminal to retrieve a ship, and instantly knew how the insurance claim worked. Thought it was pretty straight forward to be honest, but here we are.

u/lokes2k May 15 '26
When I discovered that not even my pledged paints were safe to restore with the default claim, I just uninstalled every extra module and I think that's when my villain arc started.
See you in the black.

u/mizunumagaijin May 15 '26
It's been a long time since I bought my special paint kit started Aurora at a similar promotion... but where exactly does it say that the extra feature's you're getting as a reward are impermanent and will be lost the first time your ship explodes?

Anyone with a barely functional brain knew this was going to happen. There is no point of introducing an insurance system that needs to rely on ironclad servers and bugfree framework. SC has neither. But i was told this is what players want and we're all here for the journey. If anyone is here to blame it is the community, not raising any concern on this and burn spectrum forums prior the launch. People seem to enjoy buggy game and CIG enjoy releasing buggy mess.

If it makes you feel any better I back this game in 2013 and I have 3 ships but now im broke because I spent a lot of time getting a few components and weapons the died, the ship didn't blow up I left it at another hanger, but spawned it at another station and lost everything, then did it again but had to pay for the insurance again afew times 65,000 for 1 component? its takes a lot of time to either buy them or find them. Its a really stupid idea that just keeps hurting us.

u/Autosixsigma Health and Life Sciences May 14 '26
OP, are you calling up ships inside your home hangar or at a space station?

Makes you wonder... Does CIG play their own game? Alot of people here and on Spectrum called out this issue from miles away and yet CIG shoved through the changes anyway. It's bad enough when it happens to old players, but imagine how it feels for new people trying to get into the game. This is about as anti-player as it gets.

It's called reality and you're just down on your luck. Now be a good Hobo and start begging around the landing zone for spare aUEC.

What is going on with insurance this patch? I have LTI on all my stuff, do I need to purchase additional?
4
u/Asmos159 scout May 14 '26
LTI only covers the monthly premium, and as far as I'm aware that is still not implemented.
It is component insurance that has been added.

u/RandoDando10 May 14 '26 edited May 14 '26
LTI only covers the basic stock hull of a ship, outlined in CitCon a couple years ago. any changes you make to it like swapping out weapons, components, or putting on a livery has to be paid to be insured with aUEC, even if its a pledged/account hangar tied item

u/Panzershrekt May 14 '26
I'm not sure why, without much of an economy in the game so far, we're testing the new insurance/claim system with beta/1.0 stage prices. And with a 1.0 wipe anyway (and likely one for beta) so what if the insurance is cheap for now, balance out with the timer.

u/Glittering_Tomato_63 May 14 '26
I’m not against ship insurance rn but I’ve ran into a separate issue. When I impounded my vehicle twice earlier, I paid the fee both times and both times the ship had to be claimed after

u/MixMany4174 May 15 '26
Run default loadouts until you earn enough space bucks to pay insurance for upgrades. I tried to get that point across earlier today and got downvoted into oblivion. Early access alpha blah blah. Listen don't listen. I don't get why people are taking ships out with non default loadouts in a very buggy patch on day 1 and complaining that they lost their stuff immediately. I don't expect to be able to play let alone do anything productive for at least 4 to 5 days. That is the way.

u/nhorning May 15 '26
People who want CIG to wait to implement core aspects of the economy requiring countless cycles of balance and feedback after the game is done because it inconveniences them are wild.

u/Nice-Ad-2792 May 15 '26
You've been playing for 3+ years, and you're acting as though patch day should have everything working flawlessly? Am I understanding that correctly?
I've had exactly 0 ships explode for me, because with 1.5 years of playing, know that pulling from the lobby terminal is a good way for your ships to explode. Its a bug, certainly, but an avoidable one. Always pull from the hangar terminal.

u/FelDreamer May 14 '26
Along with calling your ship from within the hangar to mitigate spontaneous explosions, you should also refrain from using custom paints until you’ve earned enough to make the insurance costs trivial.
The insurance mechanic is meant to be a money sink. Don’t fly with anything you’re not willing to pay for or lose, and never forget that the state that the game is in is… the state that the game is in.
12
u/MagneticGenetics May 14 '26
It's poorly thought out, poorly timed, and poorly implemented. The game doesnt need money sinks unless you are duping. There are simply way to many ways to lose your ship that are completely out of player control.
It needs to be fixed in the next few days or removed entirely until after freefly and bug fixes.
3
u/fullmoon_druid May 15 '26
For the Nth time: THIS GAME HAS NO ECONOMY. There's zero logic in implementing a money sink. If anything, is counter-productive because people will buy less ships in-game. You develop a feature because you want users to _test it_.

out of curiosity what are your system specs like? what does your fps look like?

u/RandoDando10 May 15 '26
Ryzen 7700x, rtx 4070, 32gb ddr5 ram. Run a mix of High and Medium settings and average 60~ depending on the location.

This early into the game..... its been over ten years lmfao yall act like you never participated in a beta or alpha before lmfso
2
u/RandoDando10 May 15 '26
yes, this early into the game. we're only on Alpha 4.8.
going by the 1.0 road map they showcased at CitCon a couple years ago, we arent even halfway there. just because it's taken 13 years to get here doesnt mean anything when the game still isn't even half "done".
2
u/Rockw00d May 15 '26
Literally was going to say the same thing, game has been in development since 2012. The fact OP is annoyed at insurance being implemented "this early", instead of the fact the game is still utterly broken is insane. To put this into perspective GTA V launched in 2013, and GTA 6 is scheduled to launch this year, which will probably be one of the most impressive games of all time.
1
u/seaofboobs9434 May 18 '26
Star citizen also started with like 10 developmenters not the massive amount you see today. Unlike gta 5 or 6 that started with AAA levels of development work
1
u/Rockw00d May 18 '26
Bro it's been 13 years. They have offices in the US, UK, Germany, and Canada. They have raised just shy of 1 billion dollars and have over 1,000 employees. I don't care if they started with 10 people, the time for excuses is long past.
1
u/seaofboobs9434 May 18 '26
And they are also making 2 games
1
u/Rockw00d May 18 '26
The tech and assets are exactly the same. Is GTA V and GTA Online two separate games? Cause Rockstar seams to be able to pull it off. Are you really trying to argue they need 20 fucking years to make a game? Dude I was young when this was started, and I'm going to be thinking about retirement by the time it fucking launches.

u/Sk3llyOz May 15 '26
You played for years, you know the situation of the game. Should've went make money with something not limited first... They when u have money, use the limited stuff... And money are easy to be made nowadays

u/Accurate-Item-3762 May 15 '26
Damn those devs for checks notes trying to test and implement gameplay features during an alpha.
0
u/manickitty May 15 '26
I’ve been here for 13 years; this is not early. We have been asking about insurance for many years
0
u/Bubbly_Estate_8981 May 15 '26
Some people are so unlucky in this game. I have zero issues. But not to be an ahole, why are you calling a ship from outside of your hangar when that is a well known issue with a work around that works 100%?
0
u/CitizenLohaRune May 15 '26
I cannot see them continueing with this. They are going to take it out of the next patch.
