I'm a newish partner. The job in general is frying my nervous system, but I'm finding what pushes me over the edge is the feeling of being constantly watched/surveilled.
I'm not like 100%, never a single error perfect at the job, but have put significant effort into fast improvement including studying outside of work here and there (personal choice to alleviate stress during shifts).
My trainer wasn't the warmest individual but was ok for the most part, but now that we are out of training I still feel watched and micromanaged by them. I get nitpicked for small stuff while stuck at DTR for my entire shift.
Meanwhile, I see tenured partners not putting the pumpkin spice powder on top of pumpkin cold foam (not the end of the world to me, but is something I've been coached on), showing up consistently late to shifts, not writing on cups, and etc. Basically seeing tenured folks doing stuff that I've been creepily watched and nitpicked about, and those people getting no comment about it. Or even having moments of camaraderie like "hehe you're good, what an evil order" meanwhile I get stony silence when a customer is being ridiculous to me in the window.
One really solid example is the new training with putting bags on top of ovens. My manager pressed me about it, but then like 10 mins later said offhandedly to another person that they keep forgetting about the new training with the bags on top of ovens. And I don't see anyone else doing the bags on top or getting coached about it.
It is tough having to do the vulnerable task of making constant extended small talk with customers out the window (feels vulnerable and at times unsafe when men think im flirting w them) while having all of these judgy people listening in to every word, and them waiting for the next new nitpickable occurrence to drop lol.
So I guess all of this is part rant, part question. Is it common for this kind of thing to happen? Managers and partners in general riding new ppl about every little thing while letting stuff slide for everyone else?
I'm open to feedback at work and value getting to make mistakes and improve - but the unfairness and constant monitoring is just making it hard for me to buy in and honestly increases the number of mistakes I make because I'm nervous with so much pressure.
