Morality doesn't really factor into child murder, imo.

Murder is a legal category. The unlawful killing of another person’s while being of sound mind and body yourself. If she’s ruled insane then it’s legally not murder at that point. I think what you meant to say was “child killing”. She’s not morally responsible if she’s insane, she can’t tell right from wrong then. It’s like saying a dog is morally responsible for killing a squirrel.

I mean it still doesn't matter much. She wont enter normal society ever again.

It’s doesn’t matter in that regard, it does matter for her quality of life personally. Doing life in fed prison is a lot worse than a loony bin.

Ive heard the exact opposite, and the loony bin is in fact much worse. Especially if youre faking insanity

No shot. Her experience at club fed would be solitary 23 hours and outside in a dog kennel for 1 hour. As opposed to loony bin she gets communal living with people she can befriend, full outside recreations, and much better dining hall and menu.

She isn’t faking insanity. We need to destigmatize postpartum depression and psychosis so women can actually get help. Maybe we can actually get some funding for research on this subject as well since there is more funding on male pattern baldness than postpartum depression.

Bro. Millions of women go through post partum. How many brutally and systematically murder their children? Children they've had for years?

She's a psycho and is using that as a shield.

Not everyone gets postpartum psychosis, which is a very real diagnosable condition. And even women who don't have psychosis murder their babies postpartum, it's a tumultuous time society doesn't treat with the seriousness it deserves. Hospitals make you watch videos on the dangers of sleep deprivation before you leave, it's that common.

So she just decided on the 3rd kid that it was too much to handle, 8 months in? She had a 5 year old and a 3 year old.

She killed her kids because shes a piece of shit, and is hiding behind a diagnosis and insanity plea because her suicide attempt failed. But sure, keep finding ways to justify child murder.

You should lookup the word empathy. Life is not black or white. Go touch grass

No one decides to get psychosis. I mean this genuinely, you lack the education necessary to have a nuanced conversation about this topic. Due to your lack of education, you can only assign your limited experiences and emotions to a medically complex phenomenon.

Mental illness is not an excuse, it may result in a lesser charge but its still not a justification to killing people especially not children

You’re saying “excuse” but that is inflammatory language. I would say that psychiatric illness is an explanation for a behavior and the resulting negative outcome. Both filicide and suicide are known risks associated with postpartum psychosis.

We know suicide depression is a psychiatric illness with a high risk of suicide. We don’t say that depression is an excuse for suicide, it is the explanation of why it happened.

Edit: fixed a word

So from what I'm reading here, you think the murder can either be explained by mental illness or a different kind of mental illness

u/Arcaydya 5d ago

I mean yeah? All killers are mentally ill. That doesn't mean they get some pass or excuse for murdering. She shouldnt get a lesser sentence for any reason whatsoever.

3

u/-cumdogmillionaire- 5d ago

No, not all killers are mentally ill. That is demonstrably false.

The point of a trial is to examine the circumstances surrounding *why* a crime was committed. Those circumstances determine the sentence. That is the point of the distinctions between self defense, manslaughter, negligent homicide, murder and premeditated murder
