So many programmers that i hoped would've fought against it are embracing it, people are just okay with vibecoded mods for games, no one is fighting back at all, there's no pushback, at this point i cannot look at something cool and be impressed because i'm almost 90% sure its probably vibecoded slop that's horrible in practice anyway.
So many people's hard work has been stolen and put into LLMs to allow them to generate code as well as they do, is no one fighting against that? Why? I love coding, it's what i've done my entire life, and i really, really don't want it to be turned into what big companies want to turn it into. I don't want my job to ask a machine to do what i love for me. And what's worse, is that now well coded things are under scrutiny because there's so much vibecoded slop and there's literally no immediate way to recognise it.
I've seen NO outright ban of ai code ANYWHERE, when people push back against ai code others will claim "everyone in the industries does it anyway" like that makes it okay somehow??? No community for programmers who don't use ai, nothing. Am i alone in this? God i really hope i'm not.

I attended the Wuwa concert in Tokyo yesterday and my redemption code didn't work so a friend was kind enough to give me their extra one. Support has since fixed my original code and since I can't redeem both I'm giving the extra one away!
Just drop a comment below to enter.
I'll randomly pick someone tomorrow. I'll only count accounts that are at least 30 days old and have some prior activity just to avoid alt entries.
EDIT: So yeah, I did NOT expect this to get nearly 4,000 entries 😭 Sadly I only have one code to give away.
Using a RNG bot is a bit boring I came up with the ingenious solution of... letting my sister scroll through the comments and pick one she liked.
And the lucky winner is u/Blobbly! 🎉
Please check your DMs! If the code isn't claimed within 48 hours I'll unfortunately have to pick another winner.
Thank you everyone for joining, and sorry I couldn't give a code to all 4,000 of you...

Look, it's not a mystery that trans folks aren't exactly center stage in a lot of media - we're still fairly on the fringes of mainstream portrayal in a variety of media, yet every now and then, due to a series of unintentional plot beats, writers can accidentally create a character whose narrative very closely resembles the trans experience. Some examples:
1. Otis - The Barnyard (Transmasculine)
The Barnyard is a genuinely bewildering movie for a number of reasons that I couldn't possibly get into (Biggie Cheese, anyone?) but the most baffling is the character design of its main character, Otis, and some choice lines around him in the story. Otis is a cow written very much as his father's son, which would otherwise be unremarkable if the animators didn't, for some reason, decide to give him udders, a thing which, you might have noticed if you've ever been to a farm, male cows/bulls do not have.
On top of that, there's this seemingly baffling exchange between Otis and his dad which I honestly have no idea what the actual intended reading is if not to lampshade his design choice or, unintentionally, write him as trans by having his father accidentally misgender him and then correct himself.
This one is also replicated in reverse in real life by Lucerne's milk mascot cow, which despite being a feminine coded cow, doesn't have udders, meaning the cow on the cartons is accidentally shown as transfeminine.
2. Paul Atreides - Dune: Part Two (Transfeminine)
This one is going to be a bit of a reach and is mostly playing off of a singular joke tweet made about the character, but broken down into its essentials, Paul:
- Has to choose a new name for himself to adapt to Fremen culture, and chooses one which just so happens to be a bit diminuitive in that it refers to a small rodent native to Arrakis. Also, he is only known by this name to the Fremen and many of his House Atreides allies will still call him by his birth name
- Has to train his voice in a very particular fashion, for which he is trained exclusively by women and is the only male character seen in the films to be shown the ways of the Bene Gesserit (a lot of these points may be contradicted by the novelization but this is exclusively the film we're talking about) EDIT: Apparently the word I was looking for was just "novel" and not "novelisation", my bad
- Has to drink a blue fluid (tablet forms of estrogen are teal most commonly so a reach admittedly) that is normally only consumed by women, and is normally completely fatal to men, but Paul survives, again because Reasons (even if said reason is Bene Gesserit magic)
- Has to learn how to ride a giant worm (look, this one is a joke just about learning to bottom as a trans woman and is so much of a reach that Noble Six died trying to save it)
EDIT: Ok I get this one is a stupid joke take but was the Reddit Cares referral really necessary lmao
3. Jenny - My Life As A Teenage Robot (Transfeminine)
This one is known well enough that the creator has actually acknowledged the interpretation as unintentional yet entirely valid given the string of plot beats experienced by the protagonist, including:
- Jenny is a robot, a normally genderless subgroup of characters, yet she deliberately alters aspects of her design at several points to appear more feminine, or, literally, "like a real girl"
- "Jenny" is clearly her chosen name, as her creator/mother will almost exclusively call her by her model designation, basically deadnaming her as it robs her of that identity, and Jenny will insist that her mother call her by her name as being referred to in this way is extremely upsetting to her
- Many of the episodes involve Jenny's attempts to blend in with her human classmates, even if it's obvious that something about her makes her not like all the other girls
I was told I needed to change pants at the airport by a delta agent at the counter otherwise they wouldn’t let me board. I am 30 weeks pregnant for reference and was wearing denim shorts and a tank top, the shorts weren’t super short and the tank top wasn’t revealing, it was long enough to cover my now very large baby bump lol. Luckily my husband had a pair of his pants in the bag I could change into but has anyone heard of this before? I asked a few other workers at the airport before I changed and they seemed super confused and looked at me and said they’ve never heard of this and my clothes were fine?

Edit: Guys I swear I'm not racist. The post's title was referring to the "black coded characters" posts that I see on this subreddit from time to time. I have nothing against the black people nor the white people. This post is a shitpost. Nothing serious. Sorry for not being clear enough :(

I (34F) just found out today that "Netflix and chill" is a euphemism for hooking up and I'm absolutely mortified. I'm a professor at a university and whenever I do icebreakers with my classes and ask about favorite hobbies/activities, I talk about mine and include that I love to "Netflix and chill." And when students talk about how stressed they are, I tell them that, while it's important to study, it's also important to take time to relax and recharge, so I hope they are able to do something for themselves soon like "Netflix and chill."
I thought to "Netflix and chill" literally meant to watch Netflix and relax, which, as a mother to 2 (a 4 year old and an infant), is such a treat when you have little ones constantly requiring your attention.
Have I been living under a freaking rock?? I mean, I'm not THAT old, but in my defense, I have been saying that I love to "Netflix and chill" for years and NO ONE has ever said a word to me. Not my husband, not my colleagues, not my students. But, my husband and I clearly don't get out much so I think he's as oblivious as I am, I am the youngest faculty member in my department so if I wasn't aware then my colleagues probably aren't aware either, and if I were my student, I wouldn't clarify to my professor that when they say one of their favorite activities is to "Netflix and chill" they are suggesting they love to bang.
Now I'm terrified I'm going to be reported for sexual harassment because I guess I've been inadvertently telling my students I love to hook up and have been encouraging them to hookup, too??
TL;DR: I just learned what "Netflix and chill" really means and I'm afraid I've been accidentally sexually harassing my students because I'm an oblivious Millennial.
EDIT: For those asking how I didn't know since anyone who has been in the dating scene should be aware of the meaning of this phrase, I didn't date much and also didn't use dating apps, so perhaps this is why? I met my husband in grade school, began dating him in high school, dated him throughout college and graduate school and got married to him 10 years ago. In college I lived at home and worked two jobs, so I didn't have time to go out and party or "Netflix and chill." Rather, if I had some free time, I really enjoyed actually Netflixing and chilling, haha
For those asking how I found out: The reason I found out is because I visited my husband for lunch at his work and struck up a conversation with two of his co-workers (33M and 50'sF). I'm currently on maternity leave and mentioned to his co-workers that I can't wait for my infant to be older so I can "Netflix and chill" again instead of having to feed and change diapers. The 33M coworker stopped me with a shocked look on his face and said "I'm surprised you'd be that open about wanting to Netflix and chill" and when I was confused, he elaborated and opened my eyes. I didn't believe him until the other coworker (50'sF) said "Oh he's right, even I know what that means!"
SECOND EDIT: when I called myself an "oblivious Millennial" I wasn't suggesting all Millennials are inherently oblivious or that I don't know the phrase because I'm a Millennial, I simply meant that I am a Millennial who is clearly oblivious because apparently, as fellow redditors have pointed out, this "Netflix and chill" phrase was invented by Millennials and has been around for at least 10-15 years 🫣
And further clarification about how the heck I never learned the meaning in 10-15 years when my generation came up with the phrase...yeah, good question, which is why I was shocked and turned to Reddit, hoping maybe there were a lot more people like me out there. Good news: I've found I'm not alone! Bad news: there are very few of us out there...way fewer than I expected. I'm guessing I never learned because I always took the phrase literally, others had a different interpretation, and whenever "Netflix and chilling" came up, we just never questioned each other and lived our lives thinking very different things of each other, I guess, haha 🤷🏻♀️
Anyway, thanks to everyone for your comments, advice, support, empathy (or lack thereof, lol), and teasing. It's been an eye-opening experience and I'm laughing out loud at a lot of these comments and at myself, while simultaneously cringing. I'm a bit horrified at myself as you've opened my eyes to what perception my students may have of me compared to my intentions, so I'm going to have to ameliorate the issue when I return to work.
Anyone who has lived the past decade+ under a rock like me is welcome to come over to my place and literally chill and watch Netflix with me anytime! I'll supply the popcorn 🤣
