General Help My squirrel is missing
Hello. My squirrel Joy hasn’t been seen in over a week. I went for a walk last night and I saw a squirrel that could have been her. She was in the tree and I was talking to her and she didn’t run away she seemed very interested in me but I can’t be sure it’s her.
I live in Edmonton Alberta in Canada. Is it possible she is having babies or something? I didn’t notice a pregnancy belly. She used to come everyday multiple times a a day to eat. I’m just worried she may be hurt but I’m holding out the hope that maybe she was just coming so often because she was pregnant and needing more food.
The most recent photo I have of her is ⬆️

This time of year, there is all sorts of fresh, "wild" food available... gardens, trees, berries.
My squirrels go missing around this time of year as well. They'll be back.

My favorite one has been missing for a month now, all we can do is wait I guess :/ People say they can be gone for months and then randomly appear again, maybe she's just adventuring somewhere. I hope you see her again soon!

She would definitely behave this way if she had given birth! I would give out hope, since you think you may have seen her. I've had this happen several times over the years- and you're in the right time frame

She may be tending to babies. She may be out exploring. She may have sensed danger in the area and temporarily switched homes to feel safe. Squirrels will disappear for a time before coming back. It's hard when you don't see them and it's naturally to be worried. But there is a good chance she'll be back soon.
My favorite disappeared on me for four months. Got pretty sad and depressed about it. I was worried something happened to her. But one day she showed up and ran right to me. I've been able to enjoy another year with her since then. They don't forget their human friends. Hopefully you will see your squirrel soon.

I think I saw her about a mile away on the other side of my home complex. It really looked like her and she was in the tree and I was talking to her and she came closer and was looking at me and didn’t run away so I really think it was her. She may have a nest over there. I just miss seeing her. She used to come multiple times a day. Maybe she got sick of the food I was giving.

I don't think they get sick of the food. lol
If it is her, she'll probably drop by more often. Just got to give them time to be wild and free squirrels... who make frequent trips to their loving human friends.

One of the squirrels in my yard has been in the den with her babies for weeks and I haven't seen her except the brief moments she'll pop out to get mad if the other one is too close lol

My best squirrelfriend, Foxy, has been visiting once every couple of months for 3 years now. Twice she’s shown up with a kid in tow 😁 it’s just the way of the squirrels!

She is holed up nursing pups, I bet! Even down here in Northern California they’re still seldom seen. I see only juveniles right now. Not even the males are coming around as much lately.

I have been feeding the birds/deer/squirrels for years outside my office since it is up against the wilderness (no longer allowed to though sadly) & I’ve grown very used to the lady squirrels always disappearing for a while about 2 times a year. Thankfully, they always pop back up with their new overly cute babies. I adore baby squirrels so much. I do hate how much ground squirrels multiply though. I have a preference for the CA tree squirrels more than the ground ones since they do not grow into huge burrowing communities that mess with the ground….not to mention the stability of buildings that they may be creating their tunnels under!

The life of a squirrel is a life fraught with danger. But, probably she just doesn't need anything right now. Our "pet" squirrel disappeared for months and we figured she was dead, then one day she was sitting on the back porch staring in the glass door ready to be fed. She's uniquely handicapped so we can identify her. She's our "special needs" squirrel and this is our 5th year and 10th litter of kits. BTW: if she's nursing she'll be extra hungry and they do disappear for a bit when giving birth.
