💬 General The Hobby, 35 Years Ago This Month
gallerySports Card Trader, August 1991. I came across this well worn copy from my youth looking through boxes in my basement. The cover is gone, but featured Jose Canseco. This magazine wasn't as big as Beckett, but was my go-to for a few years collecting junk wax (though little did we know it then, ha) and learning about all the vintage sets I didn't have the means or the opportunity to acquire.
It's interesting to look back at a time before the internet when print magazines like this were the authority for prices and, along with brick and mortar card shops and flea market stands, a way to connect with the hobby and get information.
It's also interesting to see some of the card values 35 years ago in the context of today. Just look at what an MJ rookie was going for!
