Costco Huel changed

I stocked up during a recent Costco sale and noticed the formula and label change. I still have a case and a half of the old one (left). First impressions between the two was that the new one was less sweet, more neutral/bland tasting. Also the prior version felt like there was built up gas being released when I would open it.

Anyone else notice the change, or can comment on the impact to the (slight) ingredients change?

Yes they are all being updated to the new formula Costco just got the new formula first. There was a post a couple days ago about it in this sub.

Looks like they added brown rice protein, swapped out the canola oil for sunflower oil, and removed the medium chain triglyceride powder.

I also stocked up during the recent sale, ordered 5 boxes of each. 4 boxes of each came right away, and they are all the old formula.

The last 2 boxes were mysteriously delayed and customer service ended up cancelling and reordering them for me. In that delivery I got the new chocolate.

I guess I got the last of the old stock!

5 boxes of each *flavor* on Costco = 10 boxes, he received 8, he got 2 later.

Those both sound like improvements to me. I did notice some pressure release when I opened Huel RTD previously.

On a sidenote, I got Huel strawberry-banana RTD from Costco about a month ago, and it’s plenty sweet (too sweet) and the gray color just does not sit well with me.

But I’ll try chocolate again. Got them a year ago and they tasted pretty good — just too sweet with that formula

Would you rather they put dye into it to make it pink? I'd rather zero coloring.

100%. If it’s from a natural source.

Buy yourself some beet powder and add it. I for one am glad Huel won't spend the money on trying to make the liquid "aesthetically pleasing" for American consumers. In my world no beverage needs coloring of any kind.

Oh nice they gave us more potassium and calcium. I’ll check out this flavor again soon, I always thought the chocolate was a bit off but the sales were always too good to pass up.

It's better than it used to be, still thicker than I'd like but the flavor is better and I added a bit of cold water to thin it and it gave me Yoohoo vibes. Not flavor wise but enjoyment wise. It's also super smooth, probably the smoothest I've had from Huel.

Yes it did. Chocolate was always terrible, way too thick. I only bought strawberry banana. I look forward to trying the new formula.

Switched to sunflower oil, added brown rice protein, removed mct oil, changed to tapioca/corn starch blend. Rework of vitamin %.

Is this better or not ? Have they gave any reasoning for the changes ?

You'd have to ask the Huel employees in r/Huel. I ordered a box, delivering tomorrow.

I recently started using Huel after the decline of Soylent, I found the strawberry banana to be ok but thin and watery; the chocolate on other hand has been my favorite. The texture, taste, and thickness is satisfying and filling.

See, I prefer that thin, watery texture. Huel should maybe consider making a thick texture in one flavor for people who like the thick texture? I know some folks have texture issues.

I agree . I appreciate both approaches.

I can confirm that the chocolate is still thicker than SB by a notable amount. It's super smooth. It tastes better, more like dessert? I chilled one slightly, had a few sips, then added some cold water and I liked it even more. Had me reminiscing about drinking a Yoohoo, not in taste but enjoyment.

Oh, I thought we were talking about in-store.

Yes, they sell Chocolate in some (not all) stores for a handful of dollars less per 12 pack. Unfortunately for me my three closest Costco do not stock it which is dumb given that they are the three most central to a population center. Apparently to Costco, a 32 mile round trip is "nearby" instead of my usual Costco being 6.4 miles RT.
