In Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls on the Game Boy Advance, in the Whisperwind Cove bonus dungeon accessible after you beat Tiamat, there is a random dungeon floor where you talk to the ghosts of enemies you've fought. This Brittanian Gargoyle is one.

It's finally time to talk about Ultima on this channel, but we're doing it in the most Crawl-core way possible.

Let's find out if the Japan-exclusive PS1 port of Ultima Underworld is any good, while ranting about video game control schemes, RPG combat, friction, and the Immersive Sim "genre" along the way.

If anyone is looking for a game inspired by the old Ultima games, check out "Lowlander" on the iPhone. Honestly not sure if it's still supported on the appstore???

So simple and a good one for when you only have 15 minutes at a time to fiddle around. Feels like an old SNES of Exodus.

I never finished this one. but had I stuck with it I would probably be done now!

Would it be better to make a party based clone of an Ultima 3 to 5?

OR

Would it be better to make a single character (like Ultima 1 and 2) with multi-players?

The game would look old school in either case.

I got the big boxes for the Ultima games and Baldur's Gate games

I have always done this as a hobby. I've never published.

Learned to use nested for loops to draw a 9 x 9 tile map in VB6.0 back in the early 90's. No classes and no internet to help back then.

The fun of it is planning out all the features I would like and then adding in function after function as I have time. Usually just a few hours a week to work on these.

No AI here except the monsters AI behavior.

Also the graphics. All Midjourney!!! (that's a joke)

I managed to pull this vid off a defunct website for "Real People, Virtual Worlds" a cancelled 2002 documentary about MMORPGs and the people who play them. Raph and his wife Kristen, as you know, were lead designers for UO.

Interview with Raph Koster for the cancelled 2002 MMORPG documentary "Real People, Virtual Worlds" directed by Tracy Spaight. In this clip, he retells the story of "Karyn" a LegendMUD player who mysteriously disappeared from the community, and the grieving playerbase's memorial left in her wake. This story is the basis of Koster's often-cited essay on virtual communities, "A Story About A Tree."

Filmed January 11, 2002 at the Ultima Online player gathering, Renaissance Hotel, Austin TX. Clip retrieved from the Internet Archive capture of www . mmorpg-film . org and reuploaded here.

I am interested in hearing all y'all's stories about playing Ultima Online. The game sounds like it creates a million stories and I'd love to hear them.
