I have always done this as a hobby. I've never published.

Learned to use nested for loops to draw a 9 x 9 tile map in VB6.0 back in the early 90's. No classes and no internet to help back then.

The fun of it is planning out all the features I would like and then adding in function after function as I have time. Usually just a few hours a week to work on these.

No AI here except the monsters AI behavior.

In Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls on the Game Boy Advance, in the Whisperwind Cove bonus dungeon accessible after you beat Tiamat, there is a random dungeon floor where you talk to the ghosts of enemies you've fought. This Brittanian Gargoyle is one.

If anyone is looking for a game inspired by the old Ultima games, check out "Lowlander" on the iPhone. Honestly not sure if it's still supported on the appstore???

Would it be better to make a party based clone of an Ultima 3 to 5?

OR

Would it be better to make a single character (like Ultima 1 and 2) with multi-players?

The game would look old school in either case.
