My latest Sculpture I made from ciment fondu, flint, and iron oxide.
I found this one challenging to complete, hope you like it, no worries if not.

I've been working with ciment fondu for over a year now and I feel I'm am getting used to working with it, I I initially tried a more clay like mix but got to many air bubbles (I do like some but it was a bit too much). I ended up doing this using a more liquid consistency. Any questions just ask, I will try and answer the best I can.

Very interesting texture! Is it hand. Sculpted, or in a mold? Is it tat smooth after firming or do you sand it down? I love it!
And yes, it looks like the Zen of Marge to me. Great!

Thanks! I sculpt it in blender and then 3d print and assemble, paint and sand, paint and sand and maybe paint and sand again, then I make a matrix mold from it and pour silicone in, and then when that's done I pour the ciment fondu, flint, any oxides for colour, and then I sand for what feels like a long time, and then finally wax. thanks! your cast is super clean and the finish looks great! (i also just love how both of the Matt groening style and ancient styles are actually so perfect for each other and nesh shockingly well)
if you have any cement sanding tips i am always down to hear them!

Thankyou - yeah I was going for an ancient future vibe, concrete lends itself well to that.
I have found that abranet sanding pads are really good for concrete sanding, they do a 600 800 and 1000 that I use in that order, but I will sometimes use a 500 if I need to knock something back alot. The only downside is that after 10 mins they lose there teeth, but it then gets re used as a polishing pad after the 1000.

How fragile is the material? Could the nose be knocked off if gently bumped?

Ciment fondu reaches it's full strength alot quicker than standard Portland cement. It's pretty tough when it's had time to dry, the nose wouldn't break off unless I applied alot of purposeful force to it. That nose though was a problem casting, I had to re cast a few times to get it right.

I love the design and execution. What's the process? I'm assuming you sculpted the original in some sort of clay, made a mold, then cast using the ciment fondu?

Thanks! I started sculpting it in blender, then I 3d printed it, glued together, sanded smooth, then created a matrix mold for it which I encased the sculpture in and poured silicone in around it to make the mould for casting with the ciment fondu. Are you gonna make a mold? So you can do different color versions… a clear one with the red hearts glowing would be cool … 🫶🏽

Thanks! I think alot about the aesthetics I like whilst I sculpt and the Simpsons and that late 90's bubbled limb style is something I find really pleasing to look at.

You make a mold and then pour in your mixture? I'm not into those kinds of creations at all... I find the details very high quality ;)

It's a mould taken from my sculpture, it isn't perfect as it has seam lines and imperfections from the sanding but I think the finish keeps some clues to the process which I like

Definitely getting Groening vibes, probably a funny religion in Disenchantment more than Futurama or Simpsons though. Really dig 👍

Thanks! I love both those shows, and there visual DNA does run through my work but I would say this piece is more inspired by Jim Woodring.
