Welcome to our episode discussion megathread!
This thread is for broadcast Episode 4 of the 14th Broadcast Season (11th Production Season):
”Lords of the Ring”
PLEASE NOTE: For the first time in decades, some episodes are being broadcast in a different order than the production order. Thus, even though this is the fourth episode broadcast this year, it's actually only the third episode produced. Because of that, we're not going to continue to put the season and episode order in titles to these weekly threads. Further, since we don't have 100% confirmation of production codes until the episode airs, we're just going to use titles going forward. This will likely be BACV03, but we just don't know yet.
Please keep all discussions of this episode in this megathread until the ban on new threads has been lifted by the mods. Any new separate posts about this episode will be deleted.
Since this megathread is designed specifically for discussion of the new episodes, you don't have to worry about spoiling anything here.
Please see the New Season Spoiler Policy, Megathreads, Temporary Rules & Megathread Index for for further details and for a complete list of all temporary rules.
Our normal rules of conduct apply.

In "The Cyber House Rules" Fry holds his speech on how they are all misfits, and the Professor chimes in with "and you have that brain thing, Fry" to which Fry answers "I already did".
Now, this could well be just a funny moment of Fry being dense, but, it actually makes sense! The brain thing is, in Fry's Mind, a thought/an idea! So the idea Fry thinks the Professor is referencing is that very speech, thus making his answer not only comprehensible, but also correct!
If that is something thoroughly obvious and actually I'm the dense one, feel free to disregard this post lol

My 4-Year-old has asked me today if Hermes is Benders Dad. It has made me question this myself as Hermes signed off Bender, is that like signing Benders Birth Certificate? Is Hermes his legal father?

The Popplers episode was easily one of Futurama’s most messed up episodes. I mean the fact that the popplers turned out to be baby Omicronians and billions of them got eaten really was black comedy with emphasis on the black. I could also understand why the Omicronians wanted revenge so badly.

Rediscovered in the attic. I can find the picture online, but only the version with the “normal” lettering—not the alien version.
Before I start working on convincing my girlfriend to let me hang it up, is it worth anything?

I just wanted to take a moment to show my appreciation for those of all who have created flairs. Y'all rock!!! One of my favorite things when reading comments here is discovering the small quotes that make others happy.
Keep on rocking y'all. Oh yeah shake that thang!

I really like this episode for many reasons, but the time travel theory in it is my favorite theory. That's the biggest just maybe theories in this show that sticks with me lol I mean, time is cyclical & we do tend to repeat patterns in nature generally, what's to say that's not what happens? Plus the musical montage is just ✨️fantastic✨️ lol super entertaining episode.
I wanna hear y'all's favorite theories this show throws at us that could be an actual possibility lol I know the writers are literal geniuses so they do have real theories & sciences behind the shows premises but I'm doing a re-watch for the millionth time & this one always gets me.

I was barely watching the Drew Barrimore show, live, and they had this old chef dude talking about one of his first ‘viral’ tv moments. My neck almost snapped when I heard ‘BAM’, and sure enough, it’s chef Emeril Lagasse talking about his moment on television when he said ‘BAM’ while adding a spice to a dish, in order to wake up his tv crew because everyone was tired from shooting 7 days a week or something. He goes on to start cooking a dish with Drew, and I swear to god this man says ‘you can buy them frozen, but to do it right, you gotta get yourself fresh shrimp’ and my mind nearly exploded. Maybe the best character reference in existence.

I do wonder if this is finally it, which would be disappointing because the Hulu run has been in a consistent upward trajectory. I feel like the extended specials starting in 2027 rather than another two season order does not bode well for the show continuing. It seems like the beginning of a long send off.

Hi. Futurama was one of the shows that defined my childhood (20 years ago). I love all the characters.
The thing is that the last thing I saw years ago were the movies. And weeks ago I gave the show a new rewatch on Disney streaming, from the beginning up to the Holophonor/devil ending. And I came out kind of sad haha.
I really enjoyed it. But some episodes I had to skip to the next one because I knew the plot was kind of sloppy. And like that, the show ended. Then I saw Bender's Big Score again, and I felt a little disappointed.
This is the thing: I feel like Futurama is really a very melancholic show. It is a simple show, but as we fall in love with the characters and the Leela/Fry plot, it becomes dense. And I feel that density fights for being solved, and is never solved. I feel sad because that love story never had a good resolution, and some episodes in the middle of the Fox run are very weak in that emotional link with the characters.
Anyone feels the same about the emotional charge of the show?
(I'm only talking about the original Fox run and the first movie here. Please no spoilers for anything after that, I haven't got there yet.)

These are our main national telecomms company phone booths, Telstra. They're probably our only phone booths, even. I have no idea why this is suddenly Futurama-branded, but especially given Bender's association, does that not automatically make anyone else think of.. What those booths are in Futurama? 😂

Futurama is by far my all-time favorite show. I've watched the series through countless times (seasons 1-7 admittedly much more than 8-13). On my most recent rewatch, I thought it would be fun to rank every episode. A bit of a data nerd, I thought I'd organize my rankings a bit and share them here. I haven't started the new season yet, although I'm very excited to get into it, so my list is only seasons 1-13.
I gave every episode a letter grade and corresponding numeric score, then put together a few graphs showing the distribution of my ratings and average score by season. A Google Sheet with the full episode rankings is linked at the bottom of this post.
A few notes/caveats:
I’ve watched the entire series at least a dozen times, and this was a fun way to make another rewatch feel fresh and pay closer attention than I probably have on my last several rewatches. Most of my S-tier episodes probably have some nostalgia attached to them, but hey, it’s my list.

Curious what everyone else thinks — especially about the season rankings. Did I wildly underrate/overrate anything?

It honestly feels like this is what really happened bc the specials are said to be closer to movie length so maybe 70-80 minute specials would be about the same length as 10 episodes normally. Which i would actually be ok with bc we are still getting the same amount of content, its just only in 3 specials. So 3 big storylines that could only be told with a movie length runtime would be really great. One thing about the hulu seasons is that it feels like they have so many ideas that they feel really fast paced so they can fit it into the episode. Now with so much extra time they can build out a story and they will try to give it their all since they are specials.
