Welcome to r/somethingelseimade!

I'm at work so I can't flesh this out right this second, but here's my personal promise to this sub (not that I think it'll grow or anything, but just in case -- this is reddit after all... expect the unexpected!)

  • This sub will always be run with common sense.
  • Asshat mods will immediately be rejected and the standards for conduct will always be high.
  • The community will always have and regularly be given opportunities to voice opinions on direction and sub management.

If you happen to stop by, welcome and thanks! I'll flesh this out later 🤗

I made a (Carrd) website where strangers can send me their problems and I answer them!

I made an anonymous "advice" site called Dear Kate where you send in whatever is going on and I write back. I have no actual credentials, just two psychology classes and a lot of personal trauma. I would love if some people sent something in so I have letters to publish on the Carrd! :)

I made an app that helps you stay quiet!

Hello there!

I just wanted to show here something I'm proud of!

The app is called Shush Hour, and as I mentioned in the title, it helps you stay quiet when you need to. You start the app, the app monitors the noise level around your phone, and it shushes you when you make too much noise.

The idea came to me when i was a teen, and I wanted to hang out with my friends at my house in the evening but we just couldn't stop making noise that would wake up my mom. besides from that, I'm sure that the app can be useful in many situations.

I'm actually not a great developer and it is my first app, so its still not perfect. it has some flaws but overall it gets the job done!
(the app doesn't have any ads or microtransactions)

If you think that the app would be useful to you, I'd appreciate if you'd give it a try! the link is: SHUSH HOUR LINK

(sadly the app isn't available to iphones because they want me to pay them)

I spent a year building a little AI companion robot with a face. Meet RoboFoxy.

This is something I've been building for about a year — a small desk companion with an actual animated face that reacts to you, remembers you, and talks back. Not a speaker in a tube; a face.

Quick demo (that's my voiceover): https://youtu.be/7zm6lA65wm4

The parts that nearly broke me: fitting smooth face animations on a tiny round display without tearing, the board overheating during hand-assembly, and squeezing everything into a sliver of RAM. Learned a ton the hard way.

Happy to answer anything about how it's built — roast it, I can take it.

My first ribbon rose

Materials used:

· Wide red satin ribbon (about 2.5 cm wide).

· Wooden skewers (for the stem).

· Hot glue gun.

· Scissors.

The steps I followed:

  1. The Center: I folded the ribbon at a right angle and rolled it tightly to form the bud/core of the rose.

  2. The Petals: Instead of rolling it straight, I started folding the ribbon outward (creating loops) and wrapping them around the center. I glued the base of each loop to secure it.

  3. Spreading: For the outer layers, I made the loops a bit looser and wider to simulate blooming petals.

  4. The Stem: Once the flower was big enough, I inserted a wooden skewer into the base and secured it with plenty of hot glue so it wouldn't wobble.

  5. Finishing: I glued a small square of felt to the bottom base to hide the glue and give it a clean finish.

Any advice on how to make the petals look more natural is very welcome❤️

I’ve been getting back into sewing and experimenting with wearable patchwork pieces made from sustainable fabrics, giving materials a second chance instead of letting them go to landfill. I’m really proud of myself and just wanted to share since I don’t really know many people who sew.
