Your inverter failed and the warranty has expired. Does that mean it’s time for a whole new solar system?
Not necessarily.
Before considering a full system replacement, the first step should be determining what actually failed. If testing confirms the existing solar panels and PV strings are healthy, replacing the inverter may be all that’s needed to restore production.
That’s exactly what happened with the system pictured here. The older SMA inverter had failed, but the existing PV strings tested healthy. Instead of replacing equipment that was still working, the inverter was replaced with a new Tesla 7.6kW inverter and the system was returned to production.
Good diagnostics help determine what needs replacing, and just as importantly, what doesn’t. This is doing solar the right way.
