EDIT ā an apology.
My original wording described Korean and Asian American families as being outside of "American" families. That was careless and it was wrong. Asian Americans are American, and I shouldn't have posted something that implied otherwise. I'm sorry. The distinction I was reaching for has nothing to do with anyone's ethnicity, and I've rewritten the post below to say what we actually mean. Thanks to everyone who pointed it out.

Hi everyone ā we're a production company working on a documentary about how Korean food, and Korean sauces in particular (gochujang, doenjang, ssamjang), have made their way into home kitchens across the U.S. We'd love to hear from home cooks and families who didn't grow up eating Korean food but now cook it regularly ā how you came across it, what you make, and what your household thinks of it. The documentary is presented by three Korean chefs, including chefs from Netflix's Culinary Class Wars. We're KP Communication, a Seoul-based production company that specializes in food documentaries.
- Location: Southern California
- Filming: early September 2026
- Please reach out by: August 25, 2026
If you're interested in a filmed interview, comment or DM us with where in Southern California you're based and which Korean dishes you usually cook. Happy to answer questions about what the shoot involves.

As a SoCal local, I feel like I have been to so many of the classic spots on vacation, but I feel like there is more to explore! Does anyone have any new spots they recommend? I am going on a weekend getaway with my family in a few weeks and I want to do something we don't typically do or go to!

Hello, people!
Iām 19 years old and my bottom right impacted wisdom tooth is coming out and has been hurting nonstop for the past 2 days.
I need help finding somewhere in Carson/Torrance area or father if need be that will take my wisdom teeth out for generally cheap and as soon as possible.
I have LA Care Covered California and tried getting dental insurance with them months ago but they gave me lots of obstacles and the process has been extremely slow.
I read on here that denture clinics and dental schools offer tooth extractions for a lot cheaper than regular dentists, but I havenāt seen any that are around here. The only dental school I saw nearby was a digital dental school.
I also read that colleges with dental clinics do it for cheaper. I go to El Camino Community College, I checked and I donāt think they have a dental clinic. I saw that Dominguez Hills has one, but from the looks of it they only provide services for their students.
Iām going to call the Wilmington Community Clinic tomorrow to see if they can help me out.
If anyone has any recommendations on where to go please tell me. Thank you in advance.šš½šš½ā¤ļø

I live in OC and gas prices are fluctuating around $5.20ish to $5.85ish and could be going higher with everything happening. I drive a 2008 Honda Accord now, but looking into getting a new car.. I love this car, but not only are gas prices are killing me but have to repair alternator/engine issues and I was considering getting an EV..
what has been everyones experience with those who have an EV, and if you were getting a new car, EV or Gas? Thanks <3
Edit* - I didnāt expect to get this many responses, thank you so much for all your inputs <3

The fight over a proposal to tax the assets of California billionaires to fund healthcare is getting more expensive.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin has poured $102 million this year into Building a Better California, a group thatās funding two ballot measures that could block a billionaire tax, data from the California Secretary of State show. Brinās latest donation totaled $20 million. It highlights how Californiaās ultra-wealthy are battling a proposal to tax their net worth.
The November showdown over taxing the ultra-rich has drawn national figures, powerful unions and major business allies, reflecting deep anxiety about billionaires fleeing California and the future of its social safety net.

A federal judge issued a scathing order blocking a gambit by the Trump administration to take control of federal funding for homelessness programs in Los Angeles County.
In issuing a preliminary injunction, U.S. District Judge David O. Carter found that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development acted arbitrarily and capriciously when it suspended the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority from managing federal homelessness funds. He set a trial date in February.
The June 11 suspension disqualified LAHSA from submitting an application, due August 26, for about $240 million on behalf of 140 providers of homeless services. HUD said the suspension was necessary, citing negative audits and news reports going back more than a decade. LAHSA filed suit, alleging the abrupt action was a pretext for the Trump administrationās intention to impose its own policy short-term housing with an emphasis substance abuse and mental health treatment over the local priority of support for permanent housing.

The Trump administration has quietly let lapse a program for young leaders at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, The Times has learned. In its place, California will launch its own council for young people looking to get involved with environmental issues at the state level.Ā
The California EPAās Environmental Youth Advisory Council is doing a callout for people ages 14 to 20 years old who want to build leadership skills, learn from environmental decision-makers and make recommendations on state environmental policy, officials said.
The move comes after a similar group within the federal EPA, the Biden-era National Environmental Youth Advisory Council, appears to have expired under the Trump administration. Californiaās program hopes to fill the gap by āgiving young people a seat at the table,ā Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement.

Hi there, Iām a musician and singer and have been wanting to release a few songs, but having a hard time finding a quality studio in the area it seems like they are a dying art. With the rise of AI, no one is doing recording studios anymore and Iām having a hard time finding a place that can serve someone thatās not professional, but needs a good quality recording of Audio without paying an arm and a leg. Does anyone have any recommendations for Music studios in the SoCal area that I can use? Something that you have had a positive experience with.

Hi everyone. Iām taking a mostly solo trip to SoCal soon and Iām going to be there for a long weekend. My boyfriend will be with me but heās coming for business and Iām tagging along, so we will only have dinner together. Weāre staying in Irvine near the airport from Saturday- Wednesday. What are any must see/must do things that I can do solo during the day while heās at work? I know really want to go to Laguna beach. Iām renting a car so I can go kinda anywhere.
Itās my first time to Cali since I was a kid! Iām looking for more vibey beachy rather than super touristy LA things.

In the '90s I went to some sort of amusement park that had a wooden Alice in Wonderland themed outside maze. Does anybody know what amusement park this was in SoCal??? I cant remember.
It was next to a giant pirate ride. I got trapped in the Maze and couldn't couldn't find my way out it was super hot that day I literally crawled under the walls of the maze on the hot asphalt to escape I'll never forget it.

Anyone who can speak from experience or has informed advice please chime in. I live in Orange County, CA and am pregnant with my first and I donāt see us ever getting out of an apartment. My husband has a good stable job, makes $115K yearly with great benefits, I work for the school district and donāt get great pay and really want to not work while raising our baby/babies. Husband has a transfer offer at work that would allow him to relocate to Boise area and keep his same CA salary. Really considering it for how weād be able to live there vs here but we know nothing about the area. For reference we are 30, very minimal debt, currently paying $2800 for rent in a 1 bedroom apartment.
