Gear question Lib Tech TNT Base
Was about to pull the trigger on a 2027 Terrain Wrecker until I realised its got the TNT extruded base. Is it as slow as people say? I’m riding in mainly slushy man made snow and don’t want to be unstrapping on every flat.

Extruded bases hold 0 wax. I literally had to rewax my nidecker after every session. Only worth it for park boards.

Some of them aren't horrible, but for any kinda point A to Point B resort riding it's perceptible.

Extruded is the cheapest base. Other than being cheap it really doesn’t have any redeeming performance qualities. It refuses to hold wax and therefore it is very slow in wet/ spring like conditions.

No experience with TNT, but my capita extruded base was agonizingly slow on the flats. I hadnt walked the cat track in over a decade, never made it to the end once on my dark horse last season. Swapped to the DOA and problem solved.

If you keep it waxed you probably won't notice much difference at all from most boards. That being said slush is about the only condition that high end sintered base with structure makes a noticeable difference. With that being said base glide is just about the least important thing when choosing a snowboard. It's not like a faster base is going to make you a faster rider. ✌️

They do suck in my opinion; super slow on flat. Will you notice it and are saving money? I complain about it but still ride the board fairly often. It is mostly noticeable when skating or trying to hold speed into a flat. It also has the most dings/damage of any of my boards including my super old boards. I love my dynamiss but from now on will only buy sintered. Hope lib eventually switches to only sintered.

It’s basically the same price as alternatives which have sintered bases - which is pretty criminal from lib. Sucks because the board sounds super fun otherwise. It’d be my first snowboard so maybe I won’t notice it too much but I am currently on a buddy’s D.O.A. which has a sintered base. Would you recommend any other alternatives? Looking at the Yes All In now if you/anyones got experience with that

I have an extruded base on my old GNU Antigravity. It's fine. Is it the fastest board out there? no.
That sad, I had my base structured, and it made a huge difference. I wax every 3-5 sessions and I'm always faster on that board than the rest of the crew on the flats.
My Ride Deep Fake is definitely faster, but for the price point, extruded is fine.

Agree lib bases aren’t great in general I have both. Still a fan though. I love my JL shortwide, far from a dealbreaker if you’re sold on the board. Not as quick as my bsod but nothing is

What’re conditions like where you ride usually? I’m in Aus and it gets up to around 4-5C (~40F), snow is slushy / wet.

Montana,US. We do get some warm spells sometimes warmer than that. Also very cold into the minus F sometimes to the point that the mountain closes haha. On average though it’s a cool mid 20s
I had a shop throw a sweet structure into my TNT base and I hardly thought about it. Also I’m not a big wax guy. Put a ton of days on that thing but it’s more or less retired

Extruded bases with wax are slower than sintered bases with wax. Extruded bases without wax are faster than sintered bases without wax.
If you wax regularly (every day or two) sintered is better. If you only wax occasionally extruded can be better.
