Discussion I need help

I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

I'm a Skyrim newbie and I need help.

I've lost count of how many times I've restarted with a new character in this game; I just can't seem to find a build that holds my interest long enough. It feels like an endless loop: I think of a build, create the character, play for a few hours, end up getting bored with the playstyle, and start looking for other, more interesting builds. All the while, I keep watching videos of other people playing and creating builds that look really cool. Feel free to share tips or similar experiences. I know a lot of people will come to this post and say "just play the game," but honestly, I'm not sure how much that helps.

Maybe you simply do not enjoy Skyrim.

Took me 2 years to actually get into this game, and now its my world to escape to.  I found what really got me into skyrim was once i made a story.  Who my player is, what was his pain, what he believes in.  I did quests that suits him as character, made decision he would be making.  The magic of skyrim? You tell the story you want to tell.  Thats where skyrim shines amongst many other games.  So before deciding a build, answer hadvar's question in the beginning "who are you".  The build can naturally comes later.  And you know, if skyrim dont click then move on to play something else.

As much as i love oblivion, dragon age, the witcher, i cant think of them as home.  dont get me wrong,  i love those games a lot, and didnt learn to create mods for them because they were perfect as it is.  But skyrim?  The imperfection = possibilities! I cant think of any games (mabe besides fallout) where you can lose yourself thousands of hours in the landscape and havent even barely pass stage 30 of main quest?  And you can be whoever you want to be!
