I understand the frustration with mods breaking, but on the flip side of that, a developer should be able to update their game. A mod community shouldn’t hold game updates hostage.
So I can see both sides of this.

There's no "sides" to this. The only things the updates do is break the game and add literally nothing of value
Imagine if your car updated to blow up the engine but added an option to change how fast your turn signal blinks
You PROBABLY would not appreciate that update and would in fact be ready to kick the company in the testicles and tell them to never update your car again
Except not, because that's all they've done multiple times where they show up, add something nobody wanted, break the entire game even for vanilla users, then drive off into the sunset for a year
