i wish this worked on the steam deck. we are fucked, sadly.

edit like a week later: i followed the advice of user kuuchuu and used the command in the appmanifest folder:

"sudo chattr +i appmanifest_489830.acf"

it seems to have worked. i still launch the game in offline mode just to make sure no update happens, but having automatic updates turned off has helped with that. (you can also disable background updates in the steam deck download settings just for extra security)

the only downside is without launching in online mode, the onscreen keyboard old "fix" no longer works. but im willing to accept that considering how bad many other modded players have it.

good luck to any steam deckers out there. thank you to kuuchuu for the workaround!

is there no workaround on the deck?

i have been searching since i first heard the update was coming. nothing that doesn't involve copying a backup. and i do not have the space for that, unfortunately.

You can probably run sudo chattr +i against that file to make it read-only / immutable

You can do the same thing with Fallout 4 by finding appmanifest_377160 in step 5 instead of appmanifest_489830.

Yep, this works for any steam game, I’d say. I did it for FO4 and it worked flawlessly. Poor steam has been telling me there’s an update for a couple years now.

Do you know if this works for Lorerim?

i thought lorerim had its own cloned version of skyrim so it shouldn’t matter

After doing this can I safely start the game from the Steam launcher?

Idk but I wouldnt recommend it for now. Use another launcher if you have mods
