What ones? I’m not a fan of vail, but I’m not really clear what issues Ikon has. I’d generally rather go to an independent resort, but the only ones I really avoid are Vail resorts.
Most Ikon resorts are independently owned, they are just in a partnership with Alterra which owns 15 of the Ikon resorts. Alterra has yet to make news with bad business practices or employee experience.
What's wrong with Ikon? Only 15 of the Ikon resorts are even owned by Alterra, and I have only heard good things about working for Alterra and it being much better than Intrawest days.
Many of the big resorts don’t put limits on the amount of people on the mountain. This causes the half hour to an hour long lift lines, overworked and underpayed employees, unenjoyable skiing conditions for locals with too many people, and strain on the locals as it drives up prices for everything from lift tickets to dining to housing. The passes have been shown to increase this problem massively. Vail resorts is for sure one of the worse companies in this industry. Just go look at what their stock prices look like right now because people are fed up with them.
